4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly liked by a 30-something 80's fan
Just thought I'd throw in my two-cents worth. I am a 30-something music listener who usually listens to 80's pop and rock. While checking out some old music videos on Launch, the "Memory" video came on. Before I could turn it off, the music caught my interest.

These guys are really cool! I bought the album the next day, and listen to it nearly every day...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sugarcult; palm trees and powerlines
Okay, for Sugarcult's newest release, i give it a three for, well, three reasons. 1) Sugarcult fans were looking for the catchy tunes of the band that bounced off the walls and into our freakin hearts. I think the single, Memory, was great, and a lot like the songs on the first album. But, Memory is one of the two songs on the album that are at all like the old music. I...

(REAL NAME)
Just thought I'd throw in my two-cents worth. I am a 30-something music listener who usually listens to 80's pop and rock. While checking out some old music videos on Launch, the "Memory" video came on. Before I could turn it off, the music caught my interest.

These guys are really cool! I bought the album the next day, and listen to it nearly every day (especially when my kids are in the car). I've seen them called "punk" and "alternative" styled, which may in fact be the case. All I know is it sounds like GREAT ROCK & ROLL to me. This coming from a "alternative rock sucks" kinda guy.

Although some of the lyrics get deep and depressive at times, the music itself is very fresh and explores many moods.

If you are a fan of Rock & Roll, give this band a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Now what did I do with that Boston CD.........?

4.0 out of 5 stars Pop-punk at its finest, April 21, 2005
By
Remy Silverstone (Los Altos, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I'm not a very big pop-punk fan at all. The music I listen to is considered to be "emo" but what can I say? This cd pulled me in.

I'm not giving this album 5 stars because it just didn't exactly live up to "Start Static" but it came pretty darn close.

This review may not be considered "helpful" but I'd say that my three favorite songs on this album are "Champagne", "Worst December", and "Sign Off"(Beautiful slow song).

5.0 out of 5 stars Sugarcult Owns Again!!!, September 9, 2004
Once again, Sugarcult pulls off an amazing album. I waited 2 years for this album, and after it finally came out I was instantly hooked to the awesome sound of Sugarcult after my first listen. Here's the breakdown:

1. She's the Blade - 5/5: Great way to start the album. Awesome song with great guirar and bass. Rivals "Memory for the best on the album.

2. Crying - 4/5: Cathy, fun song with some solid lyrics.

3. Memory - 5/5: Sugarcult's first main stream hit, and fitting. My favorite song by a long shot.

4. Worst December - 4/5: Starts out boring but turns into an awesome song in the end. Nice drumming too.

5. Back to California - 4/5: Slow, acoustic song but its still a great song. The most emotional lyrics I've heard by Sugarcult so far.

6. Destination Anywhere - 2.5/5: I don't like this song. Not a catchy beat and sub par lyrics.

7. Champagne - 5/5: WOW! This is an awesome song. Theres nothing really special about it, but it is so much fun to listen to.

8. What you say - 2/5: Same axplanation as Destination Anywhere.

9. Over - 3.5/5: Not the best song but still okay. A good chorus brings it all together.

10. Head Up - 4/5: Catchy, upbeat tune and some nice lyrics equal a good song. :)

11. Counting Stars - 4/5: A dark, emotional song that really makes you feel what the person who wrote the lyrics felt.

12. Sign off - 5/5: It's not really a complete song as much as it is a little jingle but its still one of my favorites. Emotional and acoustic, too.

Well, after all is said and done, I must say that Pt&P is no start static, but never the less an album you should buy if you liked start static. A great follow up album which scored a main stream hit and shows the band is growing up and opening up a bit more. Sweet stuff from Sugarcult once again!!! Final Grade: A- 4.5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Sugarcult is Awesome, May 8, 2004
By A Customer
I didn't know who Sugarcult was before I saw their video on MTV a couple weeks ago in the middle of the night. It was a great catchy song and I rushed to get the CD. They didn't have it at two Best Buys, but I surprisingly found the last one at Target hidden behind some Frank Sinatra CDs. I thought all the other songs would be garbage, but they all turned out to be awesome. They have a different sound unlike all the other pop/punk bands out there. Definately on my list of favorite bands.

words can't explain how much this CD rocks. the music is different from their other stuff which i LOVE because i'm sick of bands (like linkin park & dashboard confessional) whose music all sounds the same. i went to sugarcult's show two days ago & they didn't disappoint me whatsoever. palm trees & power lines is definately a CD i'm recommending to EVERYONE.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD, very catchy tunes!, February 18, 2007
A Kid's Review
I found out about this band from this kid at school who kept going on and on about them and how great they were. He was the only one who knew about them. Just to shut him up, I decided to go buy one of their albums and I was amazed! This band is really good! All of the songs on this album are very catchy, with great guitar riffs. The singer sounds a lot like the Lit front man though. I had never any of their songs before, but this band should get more air play! Sample some of the tracks up above. My favorites are "Memory" "She's the Blade" and "Head Up." This is one of those albums where you don't want to go buy 1 or 2 songs off of it. Buy the whole thing! And their album Start Static is also very good but I like this one more. However, their latest album is not all that great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Five excellent songs, August 29, 2004
A Kid's Review
Sugarcult isn't an overplayed band, and thats definately a good thing. I heard "memory" once, and loved it. I got the album, and I must say, I'm exceptionally disappointed with most of it. "She's the blade" is a good starting song, and the opening guitar's are amazing, but anywhere else, I wouldn't enjoy this song. It's kind of too loud. "Crying" is a great song until the guy starts screaming. It's still listenable though. "Memory" is the best song on the CD and possibly one of the best song's this year. The music is fabulous. It's too short though, and is over too soon. "Worst december" is good also, and the second of the five excellent songs. I'd say its the 3rd or fourth best on the album. "Back to california" is another great rock track that for some reason reminds me of the show "The O.C". Definately 2nd best song on the album. "Destination anywhere" is a pretty good rock song, but doesn't reward re-listens like the five best songs. "Champagne" is a terrible song that some people seem to like for some reason. The guy yells the whole way through the song until I want to absolutely massecre him. Instead, its a definate skip over. "What you say" is a lot like "destination anywhere". Its a good rock song. Gets on my nerves though. The same is true for "over". "Head up" is probably the 6th best song on the album, and has a good sound. After a lot of lesser songs, the album closes with the softer "Counting stars" and the short but sweet "sign off" both in the top five. In the end its a decent album, but if your on a tight budget just download the five best songs. Here are rankings:

1.Memory 6/5 (highest score)
2.Back to california 5/5
3.Worst december 5/5
4.Sign off/counting stars 5/5
6.Head up 4/5
7.Shes the blade/crying 3.5/5
9.Destination anywhere 3/5
10.what you say 3/5
11.Over 3/5
12.champagne 0/5

Bottem line-7/10: Good rock release. Definately beats "Start static" but is not anything really special. Five awesome songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid stuff from sugarcult, August 19, 2004
I bought Palm Trees & Power Lines yesterday and its the only thing I've been listening to for the time i have had it. It is an awesome album with real good guitar riffs and emotional lyrics. There are 7 really good songs on the album (1,2,3,4,5,7,10,12) and the rest are solid, but not my favorites. A definite buy for any punk/emo fan. Sugarcult Rules!
