Palm T5 Hard Case: So-so,
By AJ Mac (Columbus, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: PalmOne 3175WW Hard Case for Palm Tungsten T5 (Office Product)
I have the new Palm T5 and the hard case from Palm. It is a little big for the T5 and so it rattles if you carry the case in your jacket pocket ( I am a physician and so I carry it in my lab coat pocket). The latch on the case is plastic and is difficult to fasten and looks like it will wear out with time. The two clips inside for storing your digital media cards are too big for the cards supplied by Palm and so they do not stay in place. Overall, a poor product for my use.

Crap!,

This is probably the worst case sold by Palm. It has no access to any ports, buttons, stylus, etc., so every time you wanna use the T5 you have to take it out of the case. It is way too big. And finally, the hinge can rub against the unit!
And $40??? No wonder Palm has been giving them away for free with purchase... I miss the old Palm high-quality cases, such as Palm V, etc.

It took me quite sometime to make a decision in upgrading to the T5 from my reliable Palm Vx. I considered the investment in the hardcase a smart move, given the healthy investment I made in purchasing the T5. The rebate on the case is the only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. When inserting the T5 into the case it appears to be a mismatch. It is not a snug fit at all (it rattles in the case). You have to completely remove the handheld from the case to connect to your power and hotsync cable. You can't retrieve the stylus nor retract or insert a SD card without lifting the handheld from the case. I consider the case nothing more than a mobile carrier for the handheld. Simple design considerations could and would have made the case much more compatible with the hardware it is meant to house. I intend to purchase a Wi-Fi card in the near future. I already realize now that the handheld cannot be in the case if you have the Wi-Fi card inserted. Like I said, the rebate is the only positive when purchasing this (Palm must know that too, hence the rebate).

This case from PalmOne is just crap. It breaks so easily that you can't believe. Stay away from this case, you'll lost your money for sure.

Too big for the item it's supposed to protect, and the latch breaks too easily,

A few years back I had a Palm m515 and Palm's hard case for that model PDA and I loved them both. The hard case was well-made and fit the PDA snugly, protecting the PDA quite well from bumps and the occasional drop.
The latest incarnation of Palm's hard case is something of a disaster. It's a bit too large for my TX, so the PDA rattles around inside the case when I carry it in my pocket -- the PDA's case is scuffed in a few spots because of the rattling. In addition, the latch on the hard case is plastic and after a little over two months' use, it's already broken. I now have a hard case that won't click shut and flaps open at the slightest provocation, offering no protection for the PDA at all. I got the hard case at no charge as part of a promotion when I bought the TX and I would never consider buying the product at any price.

Wait for a Kensington,

I agree with all the negative comments thus far and will make a comparison with a Kensington product for the M500 series hoping that the company follows with a similar T5 unit. With the exception of 1 issue, I loved the Kensington M515 hard case and assumed the Palm T5 case would be similar.
The Kensington case had a rubberized coating that allowed a solid grip on the unit with very little finger pressure. This is a key feature for people working in process or production industries where gloves are used or climate conditions vary. The Palm case has a nice finish but is very slippery. Additionally, one has to fold the rear cover back away from the unit to remove the pen and power the unit on. Very annoying after using the Kensington (K) case, which allowed access to the card slot, pen, and power button when opened. I have the same complaints as others with rattling as well as concerns about marring the LCD with the memory card clips in the T5 case. The M515 slid securly into Kensington's design, which was all metal with fuzzy material on the inside to dampen shock. The K-case was smaller with no plastic inner sleeve like the Palm T5 case, which makes the unit too large for comfortable shirt pocket storage. The K-unit closed via a magnetic latch, so it would never wear out. The latch on the T5 is plastic and a little annoying to use becasue I have to think about which cover slides back to open: an arrow on the back cover provides direction. The only thing I didn't like about Kensington's unit was that the cover did not fold completely back behind itself. The M515 also had to be removed for synching but this did not bother me. I sincerely hope that Kensington Co. is working on a T5 case that's similar to the model released for the Palm M500 series units.

THIS PRODUCT SUCKS,

I've had this darn thing for less than three months, and the latch broke yesterday. I'm not hard on it at all (in fact, it was simply sitting on a shelf for one whole month due to a break in classes!).
This is a worthless piece of junk. Don't waste your money.

worthless case -- save your money!,

This case reflects very poorly on Palm's product line. It doesn't fit a Palm T|X tightly, isn't padded on the interior, and it's hard to get the stylus out without lifting the Palm out of the back of the case.
Like other reviewers, the plastic latch on mine broke after a couple of month's very light use. Then began the nightmare of getting Palm to honor their 1-year warranty -- and that experience was another sad reflection on Palm. I've spent almost an hour and three phone calls with no success. The Indian tech support are clueless about accessory warranties and Palm's phone directory seems designed to avoid warranty claims on accessories. My advice: buy a BoxWave ActiveCase -- it fits better and BoxWave even responds to email! I have owned Palm PDAs since 1997 and this accessory was my most disappointing purchase.

The little plastic catch broke in less than a month,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PalmOne 3175WW Hard Case for Palm Tungsten T5 (Office Product)
I purchased the case along with my new Palm TX to protect it on trips or whenever carrying it. It's a metal shell with a molded plastic liner. The little plastic catch in the lid half, which keeps the case closed, never seemed to work quite correctly, requiring several sliding motions before it would click shut. On a trip on March 3rd, this very small lip of plastic molded into the case broke away. Now it has no catch to keep it closed. Since the case cost me about $24 new and I'd only get about half price for the return, I figure the broken little catch costs me too much to return. I'll use a rubber band around the case, reminding me how flimsy and insufficient the case closing mechanism is. Save your money and don't buy this case. I don't remember reading the reviews before I ordered it -- so there's a $24 lesson!

Latch breaks easily (e.g. first time it fell out of my backpack). Tungsten flops around inside. Hard to hotsync, access ports or stylus, or press the power button without lifting palm out of case. In short, it sucks! I'm buying the Innopocket Deluxe Metal Case. I'll try to write back with a review on that one. Meantime, avoid this one at all costs. Bad reviews follow it everywhere it goes.
