DO NOT BUY THIS!,

OK, this seemed like such a great addition to my Palm. I'm in a new city I don't know very well, and I travel all over, all of the time. First of all, this cost $40 when I bought it, which is way too much. The interface is really bad. It loads slowly, the maps are hard to read. You have to buy an extra SD card to use the maps that you download from their site (and their site really isn't that intuitive). The extra card cost me another $30. So I blew $70 to make this work, and it just doesn't! The maps end at the city limits, so if I have to head just a little into the suburbs, I'm out of luck. But HERE'S the kicker. The maps are wrong! They are routinely off by about 3-4 blocks, and not in one consistent direction! My apartment is about 4 blocks off to the East. My friend's house is 3 blocks off to the South. If I want to use this to get directions... VERY SLOWLY LOADED directions, I am not even sure I'm going to end up in the correct location, and I see that as a BIG problem! Don't waste your money. You're better off searching at home with Streets and Trips or Mapquest and printing these directions out the old fashioned way!

What a worthless purchase. I do a lot of travelling and thought this would be great. Sounded wonderful, even sold on the palmone website. Boy was I ever mistaken. Wish I would've gotten the reviews before wasting my money. You can't read the maps, maps are only for a few cities, and the interface is less than user friendly. I finally went with Earthcomber, but when that didn't have directions (just the map and POI, but its all free) I got Mapopolis, which is wonderful. If you want Directions on the Go, rethink it, I suggest Mapopolis. Same price (also a free trial version of ANY map in the US for 9 days) and also has contiguous maps of the entire US with direction capability and POI's!!!!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PalmOne: Directions on the Go (CD-ROM)
I wouldn't even rate this a '1' because I feel so gipped out of the $35 I spent. I bought this product as a gift for my boyfriend through Amazon a while back-- before there were any reviews about this product. I have to agree with all of the previous reviews. Unless you live in a major metropolitan area, this product is completely useless. I thought that this would be a good alternative for him instead of going to Mapquest on his phone. Now, he just winds up using mapquest anyways. If you need directions to and from the city, 'Directions on the Go' works fine, but if you need to travel from the city to the suburbs or vice versa, you're out of luck.
He never even uses this product anymore... Poor gift choice on my part.

This was the worst software purchase I've ever made. I wish I looked at the two reviews in before making a decision! I live outside Philadelphia, which is the 5th largest city in the USA. After buying the software and going to all the trouble to download, register, etc, I find out they don't even have a map available for download for the Philadelphia area!!!!!!!!
WORTHLESS! Now my money is wasted. Buy.com will not take back a return(only store credit less shipping and handling) so I'm f*cked out of 40 bucks and more importantly my valuable time. A totally and completely worthless product. DO NOT BUY!

I am NOT happy with this product. They don't even have the major cities in my state, let alone the city I live in. When I emailed them about it, they said they were updating the cities but mine was not on the list and they didn't know when it would be. I'm definitely getting my $40 bucks back and never buying their products again!

Poor Coverage -- Useless!!,

Has maps for only 29 states plus D.C. In those 29 states, 16 have only one city! If you travel in California, Florida or Texas, you might get a chance to be frustrated by the slow downoad and inaccurate maps. Otherwise, you have a nice coaster to go with your AOL disks.

Directions are Sketchy at Best, Incorrect at Times,

After I loaded this software on my Palm, I tried it out by mapping a route from home to work. It could not get my home address correct and started me out from a neighboring street instead. It couldn't even route me through the major highways in the Austin TX metro area correctly. I then tried it for Houston, and same story. The display and the way it zooms in and out and marks road names on the on-screen map leave much to be desired. I can hardly get any information out of the display. I do not recommend this software at all.

Worst software purchase ever! After having a useful Psion directions program when I lived in London 6 years ago, I thought I should get something similar for my Palm Zire 72 now I'm in Seattle. I even thought there might be some improvements in the last few years, especially with Palm being the market leader...WRONG!!
If I type in my (unique!) Seattle address, it gives me 3 options - all of which are incorrect! It defaults to one 30 blocks north of me! Then practically every address I have looked for (friend's houses, restaurants, etc.) have been incorrect too! Sometimes addresses even come up on the maps and directions as "@#8&%%!??#@ Avenue"!! The program also crashes and it takes several attempts at entering the data from scratch each time before it takes it (and spits out the incorrect information!). So this has been a total and utter waste of money and time and the source of much unnecessary stress! I bought it from the Palm Store and couldn't return it as it was open box software, so I then contacted smart2go/MDM but they would only offer me a choice of one of their other programs as a consolation. Their selection was limited and as I did not want the Bible, went for an Encyclopedia card (which I will probably never use)... DO NOT BUY!! |
