The vise is heavy enough that it doesn't move around; and the square machined sides allow precise part location with the vise on the base, side, or end.

I purchased this vise in order to drill out pen blanks. The 3 square sides allows me to secure my wood upright by placing the vise on it's side. It is a relatively heavy vise and feels very solid.
