The Palmgren low-profile vise has a precision-ground guide bar for smooth, accurate travel and clamping. Low overall height and four mounting slots provide tool clearance and firm mounting on most machine tables. Jaw Width: 4". Jaw Depth: 1-1/2". Jaw Opening: 4". Base Size: 7-9/16" by 6-1/2". Base and bed parallel to 0.001"; less than 0.002" jaw deflection at 2,000 lbs. clamping pressure; jaw surfaces square to 0.002".

don't cheap out on the vise; this is a very nice vise and you will have it until you die. super smooth action, the jaws have a set of horizontal and vertical groves for rounded parts. just awesome and heavy as heck!

I was drilling a hole in a 3x5 plastic (Bud-type) project box. I was in a hurry and tried to push too big a drill bit through too small a pilot hole. The drill bit grabbed and ripped the box out of my hand and then into space. Fortunately, it missed my face and flew out of the garage and half way across the driveway. After that experience, I thought I had better do my drilling with something other than my (gloved) hand holding the work piece. My collection of C-clamps was really not the answer and so I shopped for a vise clamp.I looked at various manufacturers and various price ranges. This vise from Palmgren will cost more than the 'low cost' alternatives--but is it built to last! It is heavy with twice the throat depth of the average vise clamp. The screw drive is augmented with a guide shaft for better precision and stability. After procuring the Palmgren vise, I resumed work on my project and was able to drill the requisite holes in a (new) plastic box with ease and safety. Very impressed. Very pleased. Safety first fellow handymen!!! :)
