Surprisingly Sincere,
This review is from: Palo Alto, CA (DVD)
I saw an early cut of this film and was presently surprised with its sincerity. What begins as a rather typical night-in-the-life of some sex obsessed teens, quickly turns into an oftentimes touching exploration of all aspects of love. You have the innocent crush, the ravenous lust, unrequited adoration, and even cross-generational friendship.
By the end of the film I was hoping it would keep going. A definite find for the independently-minded film viewer.

Palo Alto is a cool place to visit. Old money abounds, so things tend to be nice. This story could have taken place anywhere. Boys want girls, get girls, learn something before the night is over. Perhaps there were a couple of more meaningful epiphanies, but how can we be sure with a story that covers these characters for a mere 12 hours?

Roap Trip of Self-Discovery,
By
This review is from: Palo Alto, CA (DVD)
"Palo Alto, CA" focuses on four college freshmen (Ben Savage, Johnny Lewis, Justin Mentell, Aaron Ashmore) who bite off more than they can chew when they come home for Thanksgiving break. Tom Arnold is on board as a school bus driver and mentor. What begins as a typical horny guys/coming-of-age flick turns out to be much more. Each of the initially shallow characters develops in depth as their individual stories unfold. The movie is many things: buddy film, comedy, romance, and drama. The screenplay by Tony Vallone is clever and touching, taking pains to make the four guys real folks rather than mere deliverers of wisecracking repartee. The picture's modest budget and lack of name stars gives it the look and feel of an indie, and also adds credibility to the story. The film proves that a comedy featuring young men need not take the low road of obvious yucks and tired, overused situations to milk laughs. The humor here derives from how the guys react to unexpected circumstances, growing up a bit along the way.

Palo Alto was funny, heartfelt and moving. It was filled with so many nice touches and is well worth watching. Filmmakers Leong, Engelhardt and Vallone posses a quality that is unique. I can't wait to see their next film.

I love how each storyline adds a different aspect to the movie: comedy, romance, drama... Each individual's story throughout the night is exciting to follow and I felt like I could really relate to the different characters. I loved how all of the stories wrapped up too, and the ending was my favorite part - it adds a nice twist! I highly recommend Palo Alto... definitely one of the better movies I've seen :)

Such a touching story, I love the four different characters, along with their stories. I think my favorite storyline is Ryan with Audrey's grandma, it is so great!

Great "night-in-the-life-of-teens" movie!,

This movie is super -- very entertaining, and very smart, engaging script.
Ben Savage is great -- all the young men are, really. It starts off as a standard "night in the life of teenagers" movie, but then it goes off in wacky, fun directions that are surprising and fresh. It has an indie-movie "real" feel to it. Sweet and earnest. Thumbs up.

I've seen a pre-release screening of Palo Alto. Films with endings that have a twist to them are among my favorites. Well, Palo Alto has four twisty endings. So it's really a good value! And it's a swell film too...

Viewed at Tribeca Film Festival,
This review is from: Palo Alto, CA (DVD)
Had a chance to see this film at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. As an adult walking into what I thought would be a film strictly for students, I was very surprised. This Indie film, and I view a lot, engaged me from the the opening sequence. This film was written, produced and directed by college students. Very impressive. I can't wait to see their next film.

The grandma is adorable, the couple in the movie are so sweet their night was my favorite. Overall it was very good except. For the sex scenes which were not very necessary ... beautiful film very touching and real, the music was great, I wish there was a soundtrack to this movie I would buy it.
