4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Billy Vaughn
If you were a child of the 50's or a person or couple that were married in the 50's, this cd will bring back some great memories. The Billy Vaughn Orchestra is at it's best with the original DOT recordings. Billy Vaughn passed away in the early 90's but LA PALOMA is one of his great efforts that we can still enjoy. IF YOU LOVED THE POP SOUNDS OF THE 50's this is a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album but beware if CD from Brazil
I had searched for this album for over 30 years and was happy when it was released on CD. Unfortunately, the CD I obtained (not from Amazon.com)was made in Brazil and it seems that they used an old, worn record for the source. The quality is quite poor and so I hardly play it. I do hope that some COMPETENT music laboratory releases a proper, quality CD which this album...

5.0 out of 5 stars LaPaloma, April 22, 2000
By A Customer

I was born in 1955 and grew up with Billy Vaughn. He was just as much a part of our household that it was almost like he lived with us. LaPaloma is one of my very favorite albums. I think by far it is the best one he put out. It has catchy tunes and a great rhythm. It's just like you can't hear it enough. I have the "LP" that my folks used to have and haven't listened to it for a while but could listen to it over and over and over. I have never gotten tired of it. In fact, I am going to order the CD so I have a better copy of it. I would very much like to see Amazon.com get more of his albums. We must have owned at least 8 or 9 while growing up and I've kept them all.

I do hope that some COMPETENT music laboratory releases a proper, quality CD which this album deserves. The song La Paloma, which I have on another Billy Vaughn CD, is of good quality so I know that acceptable master tapes exist - somewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music that warms your heart and senses!!!, April 25, 2003

Also have been a Billy Vaughn fan since my pre-teen years (am mid-age now). Agree that this is probably his best selection, but several other albums are also hard to beat. Too bad we are basically held to hearing this great mind and soul-soothing music from personal collections, or on 'elevator-music' radio stations (of which very few exist). This music may be nostalgic, but hey, those were truly 'smelling-the-roses' times! How much can one say that about today - the reason we have this beautiful music to cherish, always!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nostaglic but has audio problems, August 26, 2005
This review is from: Paloma (Audio CD)
I would rate this CD a 5 if they had used the original tapes to do it. But apparently they used another source, probably a decent LP copy. The top end is very much distorted, its nothing like it sounded on LP, especially on a good stereo. I am going to get another copy, just to make sure I dont have a bad CD. These songs bring back many childhood memories of my Dad's stereo, and this LP playing full throttle on it in absolute clarity. No one plays music like this anymore. Enjoy.

I've been looking for this album. I never thought about (...) I'm a member of (...) and (...) but they don't have Billy Vaughn. I like a lot of old songs and music but this is my absolute favorite. It reminisce back to the days when we were kids and my eldest sister Josie and my dad who passed away 25 years ago play La Paloma everyday. My day was one of the first ones who own a quadrosonic stereo ( that's what they call it back then) I have 4 brothers and 3 sisters and my dad wakes up everybody by playing La Paloma real loud ( we don't mind coz we love it) Billy's music is part of our family. Everytime we have a party or ( fiesta ) people dances to the music and everybody have fun. Whatever music I hear when I was growing up are the music I will never get tire of listening especially this one. I bought 5 Pa Paloma CD's and I'm going to give one to my sister Cora , one to Bobby and one to Nanie (aka George) The day I received my CD and play it , I feel like crying. It brings a lot of memories and I listen to it over and over and over. La Paloma is Billy Vaughns greatest album. My mother who live with me and my husband Dan came out of her room when she hear La Paloma and started humming and dancing and look at my dad's picture and said "your daughter is playing your favorite music" If you like Billy Vaughn, this is a must have CD.It's Billy Vaughn best album. Thank you (...) You have the best and largest selections of music

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect CD, August 29, 2006
This review is from: Paloma (Audio CD)
I purchased La Paloma in 1970 in 8 track format. I can still remebmer the great latin sounds of every instrument being played. I recently purchased a new La Paloma CD (Billy Vaughn Goes Latin). Playing this on my CD player sounds just as great as it did on my 8 track player in the 70's. I recommend this CD be added to your collection and wish you the best in luck finding this priceless CD.

When Billy Vaughn "went Latin," he didn't fool around! This CD is a must-have for Billy Vaughn fans as well as fans of that classic Latin sound of the 1950s and early 1960s, those mesmerizing Latin tunes presented here alongside a Brazilian touch thrown in for good effect. Billy's arrangements are flawless; every number on this album is a delight to enjoy over and over again. In addition, the quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is very nicely done.

There's not a dud in the bunch. I love all these numbers! The CD opens with "Paloma;" the musical arrangement makes good use of the percussion, guitars, brass and more to make "Paloma" a sublime beginning number for the album. "Time Was" gets the royal Latin treatment from Billy Vaughn and his pals; they do this very well. "Say 'Si Si'" gets my feet tapping to the beat without any inhibitions; "Say 'Si Si'" is perfect music for dancing to this day.

"Mexicali Rose" has a fantastic melody that shines when Billy Vaughn and his musicians perform it; and listen for splendid renditions of numbers like "Choclo;" "Golondrina;" "Brazil" (which is particularly dynamic); "Estrellita" and "Cumparsita."

Billy Vaughn's treatment of "Perfidia" stuns me with its beauty; this is really great music! "Yours" is easy on the ear; and I really like the way they all perform "(The) Peanut Vendor (Song)" with panache. "Cuando Calienta el Sol (Love Me with All Your Heart)" features a fine chorus singing some English lyrics and it all holds its own very well. The organ adds a nice touch to this ballad.

"Meditation (Meditação)" shines bright in Vaughn's capable hands; and his musicians never miss a beat! "Sunday in Madrid" is quite good; and the CD ends with the wonderful classic, "Hernando's Hideaway."

Billy Vaughn always pleased his fans and albums like this leave no doubt as to why. What a talented man Billy was! His musicians were the best as well. I highly recommend this for fans of Billy Vaughn; and people who enjoy Latin instrumental music from the mid 20th century will not be disappointed.
