A great record from a great songwriter,
By A Customer
This review is from: Palookaville (Audio CD)
Glen Burtnik could be the most underrated songwriter out there today. This is truly a great record from a guy who is not exactly a household name. Paul McCartney wishes he could still write songs this good. The record is very melodic and filled with fat hooks that leave you singing the songs for the rest of the day. This is a must have for all pop/rock fans. All in all,a very well crafted record.

Burtnik one of the best,

Geln Burtnik was the replacement for Tommy Shaw when Styx reformed in 1990, but there is more to Glen Burtnik than that ill-fated reunion. Burtnik has written songs for others that have made them lots of money. He wrote Little Susie for Styx in 1996 which can be heard here in its original as Little Lucy Blues. Watching the World Go By is a song that was recorded for the never released 1992 Styx Album before they were cut by A&M records. All the songs on this CD are great. They show off his skills with the guitar and songwriting. If you are a Styx fan you'll love this, but if you are a music fan, you HAVE to get this.

New Jersey's Finest Songwriter,

Being a Glen Burtnik fan from way back, I can only say great things about this album. I love the old stuff, as well as the new. Be sure to check out "Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man". If you're also a fan of country music, you know it's a giant hit for Randy Travis.

Burtnik at His Best!,
By Pete "piano_pete" (Hudson, NH United States) - See all my reviews

Palookaville is Glen Burtnik at his best! He really shows off his talents both as a song writer and as a multi-instrumentalist! He plays guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and sings lead and background vocals. His songwriting is diverse -- ranging from country (Wisdom of a Boy, Spirit of a Man) to blues (Little Lucy's Blues) to jazz (Liar's Club). While many of these songs were originally written for Styx after their "Edge of the Century" album, only one (Little Lucy's Blues) was recorded by them. Truth is, the songs are too diverse and rhythmic for Styx's sound. My favorites are Liar's Club and Watching the World Go By, but there literally is not a bad song on here! Well done, Glen.

I have been a Glen Burtnik fan since way back and the last show I attended was last week at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He is a great songwriter, a passionate singer and a first-rate entertainer. Glen never disappoints in concert. Every show is fresh and exciting. All the songs on this album are first rate. If you are not familiar with Glen Burtnik, get familiar with him. He's an amazing talent. You won't be sorry.

This CD shows some of Glen's work at its best. The wide range of variety is very pleasing for listening and his unique style of creativity shines through. This CD makes it evident why Glen is such a good songwriter for both himself and other artists.

An older Album,

I first heard gen back in the early/mid 80's. He had an album that I've been trying to find since I lost my copy. Songs like "Here Comes Sally, Now" and "Abalene" are great tunes. I wish they would re-release that album.
