FAQ

How many diapers will I change a day?

In the first couple of months, you may find yourself changing diapers up to 10 times in 24 hours. Diapers should be changed whenever they are wet or soiled. Your baby will often (but not always) let you know. With a super-absorbent diaper like Pampers diapers, you can tell if it's wet by feeling for lumps in the absorbent material. Here are some common times for changing diapers:

  • Right before or right after every feeding
  • After every bowel movement
  • Before bedtime
  • When your baby wakes up
  • When you go out with your baby
Is there anything special I need to know about changing a diaper?

Pampers Diapers are designed to adjust to your baby's shape for a snug, comfortable fit. While changing diapers there's no need to fold the waistband in or out or to adjust the leg cuffs.

  • Place tabs parallel to the waistband and centered on the character strip.
  • Use the characters as guides to ensure the fasteners are evenly spaced.
  • Keep baby products such as powder away from the fasteners so they maintain their stickiness.
What size diaper is right for my baby?

Just like you, babies like to wear things that fit just right. Choose a size that does not sag or gap, even as your baby crawls and plays. This will help prevent leaks. Each product description on this site gives guidelines that represent the average weight for a particular size. And remember, when you move up a size, you gain absorbency.

What’s the best method to weigh my baby?

The easiest way to weigh your baby is to first hop on the scale yourself. See how much you weigh, then see how much you weigh when you hold your baby. If you subtract your weight, you'll know how much your baby weighs.

Is there any safety information I need to know about diapers?

You buy the latest toys and babies wind up playing with silly things - like diapers. It's important to keep diapers where they should be, on your baby's bottom. Don't let your baby put the diaper in her mouth. Discard any diaper that has become torn or unsealed, and read the warning label on all bags.

How do diapers absorb all that moisture?

AGM is the absorbent gelling material widely used in diaper padding to absorb wetness. It is perfectly normal to see some gel on the skin from time to time, especially if the diaper is heavily saturated. It can easily be removed by wiping your baby's skin.

This material has a long history of safe use in a variety of products and has been in diapers for more than a decade. Absorbent gelling material is closely related to ingredients widely used in cosmetics and in food processing.

Do unused diapers needs to be stored anywhere special?

Store your diapers in an area protected from extreme heat and humidity and away from products with fragrances. We recommend the diaper be kept in a dry storage area where the temperature is 85 degrees or less.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nightmare August 21, 2010
Unit Count:108|Size Name:4
I'd been a loyal Pampers consumer since my daughter was in size newborn Swaddlers and the prospect of their Dry Max technology enticed me when it was introduced. My daughter was at the age where overnight diapers had become a necessity and I loved the notion that the Baby Dry line had been improved upon.

I learned, or rather she learned, very quickly that Dry Max was unfortunately not an improvement. She was wearing a size 3 at the time and began to wake up every morning soaked from mid-chest to knees. I assumed that she needed a size 4 for overnight and while the leaks didn't occur as regularly, there were still 2-4 mornings a week when she'd wake up soaked to the bone. I had purchased a small package and decided that once I had used the last one I was going to switch brands; I should have done so sooner.

The first thing that I noticed one morning was that the left seam of her Extra Protection diaper had come undone. There were small gel beads all over her bedding and her, and when I removed her pajama bottoms and diaper I was in shock. Her stomach, bottom and thighs were covered in red welts with some areas more inflamed than others and others that had the appearance of a typical but severe diaper rash. I had never seen anything like it; she screamed when I wiped, screamed when she sat, screamed when she moved. Motrin had no effect so I made an appointment with her pediatrician for that afternoon and he too was shocked. As it turned out it wasn't welts nor was it a rash - she had suffered caustic burns from the Dry Max beads.

I was livid and called Pampers immediately. They in turn asked for a release of her medical records for that appointment and I gave her pediatrician the okay to do so. I received a letter and 52 coupons for free diapers, their obvious attempt to bring me back as a consumer. I haven't purchased a single Pampers product since.

Please use this with caution. My daughter isn't the only one who this happened to and that in and of itself is a very unsettling fact.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY December 27, 2011
Unit Count:72|Size Name:5
I am a huge believer in the helpfulness of reviews, and use them prior to making purchase decisions. I read the reviews for this product, and was somewhat torn because of the diametrically opposing ratings. I decided to post a review for those of you that are similarly confused.
The bursting crystal thing is real, and not the result of a diaper left on too long or an unusually full bladder. My 19 month old son sleeps through the night, from about 8 pm - 7 am. We were using another brand for overnight, but decided to try Pampers Extra Protection because I did not like the way the smell of urine seemed to seep into his PJs, despite not leaking. That issue is nothing compared to the mess that greeted me when we tried the Pampers. The first morning, I was horrified by the way the Pamper was sagging. When I opened it up to change him, there were little crystals all over his groin and buttocks. Not a pleasant sight. I tried them two more times, coating him with ointment to protect his skin from the crystals. It happened again both nights. I do not work for a competitor, and this is not an attempt to launch a national campaign against any particular brand. However, as a parent, I feel that this type of failure is unacceptable, and should be shared.
I am going to try to upload a picture as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing December 14, 2011
Unit Count:72|Size Name:5
I typically won't write negative reviews, so take that as a measure of how unhappy I am with this product.

For background purposes, my 15 month old daughter does not drink heavily prior to bedtime, she just tends to pee a lot in the night and is a very solid sleeper. She tends to roll onto her tummy and sleep, so she often leaks out the top of her diaper like a little boy might experience.

For months I put my daughter in the Cruisers diapers at night, a size up from the Baby Dry diapers she wore during the day. This worked until about a month or so ago. I bought a liner which worked wonderfully. However, I was given a box of the Extra Protection diapers to try.

The first night she woke up around midnight, which is abnormal for her, and her diaper seemed very full to me. I was not sure it would have lasted the night.
During the second night my daughter woke up just prior to 5 am. The diaper had leaked top and bottom and then wicked up and down her pjs. My daughter was literally soaked from clavical to ankles. When I opened her pjs I realized that the diaper had also ruptured and she was covered in the gel-like material from inside the diaper. It's December in Chicago, so she shivered the entire time I cleaned her up. It was sad. In nearly 15 months, I have NEVER had a diaper do this, even if she managed to sleep through a leak. Needless to say I immediately purchased more diaper inserts from Amazon because these just won't cut it.

My philosophy is to use what works for your child. If these work for your little one, fantastic. Just note that catastrophic diaper failure is a strong possibility with this product.
