Most hospitals I know of will use these Pampers Swaddlers diapers for babies born in the hospital. I am sure many of you are buying these because it was what your baby first used at the hospital.

I have been ordering these exact diapers (either from sellers Trend marketing or Planet Stuff, both "fulfilled by Amazon") for about a month now for my newborn (born 6lbs 7oz). They fit her great and we have not had any leaks or blowouts (knock on wood). They are soft, seemingly comfortable for her, and I do not believe that it irritates her skin.

Here comes the tricky part.

As you may or may not know, Pampers has something called "DRY MAX" that is added to some diapers to make them more absorbent. These extra substances may or may not irritate your baby's skin. Search online and you will find that many people have complained about having DRY MAX in the diapers and it giving their baby a rash.

To convolute things even more, go to a local store that sells diapers and you will probably find that some Pampers Swaddlers packages say "with Dry Max" on them and some dont. So Pampers makes two versions of Swaddlers, one with Dry max and one without? WRONG! (well, according to Pampers themselves that is wrong).

Straight from Pampers themselves:
1. Any regular Pampers Swaddlers (non-Sensiitive versions) diapers have Dry-Max
2. Pampers Swaddlers SENSITIVE do NOT have Dry-Max

So, what about these diapers? They are marked as Pampers Swaddlers (non-Sensitive). So we assume they have Dry-Max in them right? WRONG! Pampers does it again and confuses us even more --- order these (from the sellers i listed) and you will notice that packaging has a special little symbol on it that reads "SPECIALIZED HOSPITAL PRODUCT". What's that all about? I contacted Pampers again:

"Thanks for writing!

There is some packaging that is normally not offered at the retail level. These Swaddlers are going to be plain white for the hopsitals, and the make up of the diaper is like Swaddlers Sensitive. "

So there you have it. Even those these are marked as Regular Swaddlers, they are a special hospital version and do NOT have Dry-max (a.k.a. are made like Swaddlers Sensitive).

whew, that was confusing!

When my baby moves up to size 1, i will go straight to Swaddlers Sensitive and not even deal with this dry-max vs. non-drymax fiasco (note: many people are happy with dry-max too! just depends on your baby!)

hope this helps!!!!

edit* just wanted to mention, in the Amazon picture for this product you can actually see the special symbol. It is a white circle with a + in the middle, and around it says "Specialized Hospital Product"

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality diaper, January 9, 2010

Pampers have been the only diaper that never leaked with our baby. However, I've been advised by our friends that Costco's Kirkland brand is equally superior, and MUCH cheaper, and have been using them for about one year now. I actually think that they are manufactured by the same company.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hospital Approved vs Regular Swaddlers Newborn, December 7, 2011

This review is from: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn 240 Diapers (12 packs of 20) (Health and Beauty)
I've had issues with two suppliers regarding these diapers. Here's my advise to anyone needing/wanting to purchase the swaddler newborn "hospital approved" diapers.

Here's the scoop: Suppliers are advertising the "hospital approved" diapers, these have a + in the middle of a circle on the package. These diapers are the ones used in hospitals and are basically the same as sensitive diapers, except you are not paying the extra .15 per diaper, you pay the same as the other swaddlers for newborns. Now, the catch is the UPC, which the suppliers are not paying attention to. The UPC is 30374X on the hospital grade and on the others is is: 30374. Now, from what a supplier told me, the manufacturer (pampers) is apparently no longer selling hospital grade to the public, which means that the suppliers who have always had these x diapers, will no longer carry them, and they are still advertising the "hospital grade", they are the regular ones.

This has made it so that if the suppliers were not aware of this change, they would not know they are sending out the non-hospital grade diapers, which has health risks to their customers. I'm severly allergic to the powder scent and powder and other stuff in the diaper, I cannot even have the package near me, if it's within 10 feet, I"ll break into hives, and be in the hospital with breathing problems, if it's closer I'm in the ER quickly... So, it's important to me when a supplier advertises something, they send the correct product.

Just wanted to give a heads-up in case there are others or their babies who are sensitive to the regular diapers, and so when you open the packaging, if the nubers on the box don't have the x after them, and/or you put the package to your nose and smell the strong powder scent, you will know you received the incorrect product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the same diapers, September 25, 2011

This review is from: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn 240 Diapers (12 packs of 20) (Health and Beauty)
I purchased this box off 240 diapers after constantly running out of the 84 count boxes I was getting at the store and noting the better price. The first thing I noticed was that the wetness indicator was not working the way it did on my other swaddlers diapers (with the SS characters on them). After a few days now, she has constantly been leaking from these diapers so I looked at the other reviews and found others having the same problems. I still thought it might be in my head and decided to wait a little while before writing my review. I shortly remembered that I still had a few of the original diapers in my diaper bag. I compared the two diapers and discovered that the set ordered from this seller was lacking quite a bit of padding as compared to the other diaper. The material also feels different. The ruching at the side doesn't stretch as well. They look very similar but upon a close inspection, they are NOT the same diaper.
I loved my original Pampers Swaddelers New Baby and would have given them a 5 Star, however these diapers are a poor substitute.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but could be better, September 1, 2008
This review is from: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn 240 Diapers (12 packs of 20) (Health and Beauty)
After our son was born the hospital used New Born Swaddlers on him and we loved them. They had a yellow stripe on the front that indicated when he had urinated which is sometimes hard to tell with new borns. But the Swaddlers we picked up in the store do not have this stripe, but the number on this site matches the number on the pampers bag the hospital ones came in.

I learned that different stores can carry different versions of the same product - if the walmart pampers swaddlers are a lot cheaper than target, for instance, it may be because pampers is making a "cheaper" version for sale at walmart.

These are the diapers used in the hospital when our son was born & actually have the "hospital product" logo on them. The price was definitely better than in a local store, & they arrived very quickly. Signing up for "amazon moms" gave us an additional discount as well. great buying experience - I will continue to buy diapers here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swaddlers without Dry Max are SO much better!, December 31, 2010

This review is from: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn 240 Diapers (12 packs of 20) (Health and Beauty)
The Dry Max diapers tend to leave the gel beads on my child's skin. I hate Dry Max diapers, so I scour the internet looking for Pampers Diapers without it. Thankfully I found this listing & was so happy with the purchase. The wetness indicator on the diaper helps immensely and they rarely leak.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, September 21, 2011

I decided to order these diapers after using Pampers Swaddlers Diapers Big Pack Size Newborn 84 Countfor about 6 weeks with no problems, mainly because this pack contained more. However these have been nothing but a pain. The wetness indicator does not work and worst of all the diapers don't do their main function of keeping the baby dry. This product deserves a big fat 0. I can't understand why these functioned so badly. I am now thinking of switching to Luvs Premium Stretch Diapers with Ultra Leakguards, Size 1 (8-14 Lbs), 264 Count.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swaddlers worked best for my twin boys, August 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn 240 Diapers (12 packs of 20) (Health and Beauty)
We think these diapers are the best. Twin boys were just over 5 lbs at birth Huggies NB seemed to leak. We did not Dave any problems with Drymax, in fact, we thought it worked great to keep the boys dry. Many times the diapers were wet and soiled but their bottoms were pretty clean. The stool was trapped on the other side of the mesh.
I bought two boxes of 240 diapers because we were using 16 or more per day. We had a hard time finding enough in local stores. But the boys grew faster than anticipated and we had a few left when it was time for the next size.
Diapers are still not leak proof if the penis isn't tucked down, or if they have a very large bowel movement, but I think that is the case for any diaper

They should have negative stars you can give a product. These diapers are horrible!! Almost all of them have leaked and left my poor baby with wet clothes. I was previously using pampers swaddlers sensitive which was working fine, so I thought 'how different can these be?' The price is definitely not worth leaving my poor baby wet! And the wetness indicator does not work either, instead sometimes the diaper is swollen up in the front (I assume from liquid retention) even though it would have been changed not so long ago.
