3.0 out of 5 stars Author is trying to promote his products
At first I had good feelings about this book, but as I got into it I discovered that it is very shallow in theory and spent a lot of time promoting the author and his products. The forms used in the book are good when practiced daily and would be a nice addition to a more complete Qigong workout, but by themselves they lack completeness. I was especially turned off when...

5.0 out of 5 stars Do what it says, and feel it yourself., May 5, 2002
This review is from: Pan Gu Mystical Qigong (Paperback)
Not the best writing or photography, but who cares...it works! This is one of the biggest surprises in a small package I have ever read in the field of qiqong.

No esoteric jibberish here, right up front the author tells you precisely what to do in clear step by step order.

I felt the qiqong sensations, especially in the hands and forearms, right away. Yes I do qiqong and am probably sensitised to it, but this simple and effective system had the fastest real results of any system I have ever studied.

Pangu Qiqong is presented as a health practice, but martial artists will find it filling them with power too.

Anything negative to say? Yup. The system is presented in a concise and direct way...it doesn't fill up much of the book. So the author filled up the rest with more flowery exposition and anecdotal experiences. This add-on material does not add much to the knowledge of the reader. But hey, the instruction is worth it!

At first I had good feelings about this book, but as I got into it I discovered that it is very shallow in theory and spent a lot of time promoting the author and his products. The forms used in the book are good when practiced daily and would be a nice addition to a more complete Qigong workout, but by themselves they lack completeness. I was especially turned off when the author stated that if you practiced certain things without his approval it could injure you. The particular exercise he was talking about, at the level he was teaching is totally safe and deserves better treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by simplicity, July 3, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pan Gu Mystical Qigong (Paperback)
I have been practicing this form of Qi Gong for about 6 months. It IS simple and may be deceiving to an outsider as to it's efficacy. I am 64 years old and in pretty good health. But I have had a serious bout of skin cancer that requires semi- yearly operations. Since doing Pan Gu my arms and face have returned to almost normal. It's been miraculous. Also, my blood pressure has dropped significantly. I would like to attribute the recovery to something else but Pan Gu is the only thing I am doing. I have friends who poo poo the thought of anything that's not a 'no pain no gain' approach. So be it. I showed the form to a group of healers in Mexico and they found it so powerful they include it when healing patients, many of whom are cancer victims like me. And, with remarkable results.
Please don't be beaten down by the Western thinking nay sayers in some of these reviews. They are short thinking and closed to new ways of healing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great information. However..., December 6, 2009

This review is from: Pan Gu Mystical Qigong (Paperback)
This book is good information for the student who practices Pan Gu Shengong and is looking for more of an intellectual understanding. Also, the book itself is a good exercise for "absorbing" good energy, as it relates to positive information.

This is Qigong master Ou Wenwei's first english translation of his book. I would strongly recommend that the reader also learns the movements and theory behind Pan Gu Shengong from a Pan Gu Shengong instructor. You can find qualified instructors on the official Pan Gu website. The Pan Gu Shengong "intellect" in this book will have so much more value to the reader when they also have the Pan Gu Shengong EXPERIENCE. I say this because I have read this at a time where I had little experience with the practice, and after re-reading the book later--when I had MUCH more experience with the practice--the book made much more sense and it also helped me further apply this knowledge to improve my daily life.

Pan Gu Mystical Qigong is definitely a recommended read; however, it will have more value to one who exercises Pan Gu Shengong. I rate this 4 stars--rather than 5--only because I feel the knowledge could've been communicated a little better ;)

It's a wonderful book. It explained the profound Qigong theory in a simple way and introduced a simple but effecient method to improve one's health and energy (Qi) level.
In a nutshell, it really works right away!

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Master, March 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Pan Gu Mystical Qigong (Paperback)
Having trained with Master Ou myself, I can attest to the fact that he is a very high level qigong master. He has cured many of diseases, has body-sensing ability, and can do long-distance healing across thousands of miles. Though this qigong is simple in form, the results are much better if you learn from Master Ou or one of his instructors in person. This is because they actually send you qi during the training to speed your progress. This book makes a great companion to learning the form in person, though I would not use it alone.

1.0 out of 5 stars You actually pay [money] for this author own advertisement, November 27, 2002
This review is from: Pan Gu Mystical Qigong (Paperback)
Words, Words, Words,....... Love, Love, Love,.........Self promotion, Self promotion, Self promotion.
Absolutely and completely a waste of money. A childish routine that for sure won't hurt anyone but very easy to sell if packed with newage/mistical/oriental/pacefull package. Looks like the manifest of a scientific church (of course to practice correctly and teach you must belong to the "church" or you get lost from the correct pat). Anyway,IN MY OPINION, if you are looking for something (very easy, without any effort, absolutely not demanding) that will keep you in a temporary and false "state of grace" like whatever synthetic commercial new age practice with an nice Oriental flavor, this is the book for you.
If on the contrary you are really looking for knowing Qi Gong, well there are a lot of serious and exaustive Books to buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Send me money now for my Secret Qigong !, February 8, 2004

This review is from: Pan Gu Mystical Qigong (Paperback)
This is a pretty awful book for any person who either casually or seriously wants to persue fitness, health or even the spiritual aspects of Taiji or Qigong. I'ts the best example of "snake oil" I have seen in a long time. There are other examples of course. The more people become aware of Qigong, the more the "Do-it-yourself Masters" get out there and publish their "Own Family Secret Qigong". Maybe I should do that too. No prior knowledge of Taiji or Qigong required. This book is a good example of this and is a complete waste of time following the practice and spending the money. Yoga, Pilates, Taiji will do the trick.
