4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing novelty for Ramones fans
One of the sillier novelty albums out there, but I found it amusing. I'm impressed by the dead-on melodies this guy's able to do on his steelpan, and loyalists will be pleased that the tunes are incredibly close to the originals (if not faster!). In a way, that disappointed me. I was hoping for a Caribbean/Trinidad take on Ramones tracks; something slower with a relaxed...

3.0 out of 5 stars You just have to hear it to believe it
I thought I heard the most unique style cover album when I heard the Nutley Brass cover The Misfits (here), but that's all changed with this one. Thornton covers the legendary punk pioneers entirely on steel drums. You're probably scratching your head thinking, "How could that be any good?" You just have to hear it to believe it.

In a way, that disappointed me. I was hoping for a Caribbean/Trinidad take on Ramones tracks; something slower with a relaxed island feel. Instead, the steel drums replace the vocal and guitar lines but the songs are otherwise untouched. This guy is talented and this is a fun tribute, but what's the point of steel drums without calypso?

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Ramones tribute album ever!, January 16, 2006

This CD totally rocks! Anyone who has ever liked a Ramones song will love this very unique take on the work of the world's premier punk/pop band. Imagine if CBGBs was located in the Caribbean - it would sound like Pan For Punks. All the best Ramones songs played on steel drum. Awesome and unlike any other Ramones tribute band...or copy copy wanna be punkers.
