From the Manufacturer

The PanaVise 350 multipurpose work center is a compact work-holding tool bundle designed to hold larger, heavier objects. The 350 multipurpose work center features a head that opens up to 9", removable neoprene jaw pads, and a tray mount with six built-in parts wells. The components are mounted around a PanaVise 300 standard base, which features compatibility with additional tool and vise head options, and PanaVise "split-ball" functionality utilizing single-knob controls for head movement through 3 separate planes (tilt, turn and rotate).

The Compact Work Station for Larger, Heavier Objects

The PanaVise 350 multipurpose work center is made up of three PanaVise components: the 376 extra-wide opening vise head, the 300 standard base and the 312 parts tray mount. The 376 vise head opens up to 9", and has "double-action" jaws. This configuration allows for fast opening and closing, as both sides of the jaws move simultaneously when the vise is cranked. The jaws self-center, which ensures a good fit against items, and allows the contact points of jaws to be reversed, providing 'zero' closure when a user needs to secure very small items. The unit ships with reversible and removable 1-7/8" neoprene jaw pads. One side of the pads has multiple grooves designed for flat surfaces, while the other has a wide "V" groove to hold round objects. The 300 standard base connects the 376 head component to the 312 part tray mount. Pre-drilled tapped holes in the aluminum 312 parts tray mount allow it to be attached to the 300 standard base. The 4-5/16" tray diameter and weight (1.4 lbs.) add to the overall stability. The 312 parts tray mount contains six integrated part wells with rounded edges that ease parts grasping. The tray also contains three pre-drilled and tapped 1/4"-20 holes to secure additional accessories.

Tilt, Turn and Rotate Functionality

The PanaVise PanaVise 350 multipurpose work center utilizes PanaVise single knob "split-ball" functionality at the point of contact between its base and vise head attachment. Once an item is secured within the head, the base's the split-ball adjustment system allows for maneuvering along three separate planes. The complete mobility range is a 90-degree tilt to the side, along with either an angled rotation or a level turn range of 360 degrees. This range of mobility allows a user to rearrange a work item into any position, and eliminates the need to adjust the overall position of the work station.

Sometimes I feel like I want the extra arms like Doctor Octopus, sure can think of many ways where those extra hands/arms can come in handy. While it won't happen, this PanaVise does allow me to set objects to be held while I either glue, tape, work on, solder, desolder, etc. PanaVise also have a selection of attachments that can fit this Work Center. If you work a lot with some items, this PanaVise comes in very handy.

UPDATE 9/16/2013: weight of base is 3 lbs 5 oz, weight of base plus clamp is 5 lbs 2 oz. Changing the clamps, say from the wide grip to a narrow grip will require the use of a screwdriver. Also wanted to add that the PanaVise is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty.

UPDATE 11/27/13: a member asked in the comments about the maximum and minimum length of usage, see the comments for this review for further information on the measurement for distance on both clamp settings.

I use the PV 350 without screwing it onto the table and I was surprise how stable it is, due it's low center of gravity. The jaws are precisely adjustable so that you can use just the right amount of pressure to hold but not destroy your work object. The tiny trays are helpful indeed. The relative small size allows you to store it easily. I switch often between different extensions witch can be done easily and quickly.

The PanaVise 350 is a great third hand. It's solid and yet flexible. I'm using it as a soldering station. When I'm soldering it holds the boards perfectly stable. I have used Panavises for years, they have never dissapointed me.

This is THE vise for electronic and hobby work. Great for holding small items in any position. Slots in the rubber jaws are perfect for holding small PC boards. The jaws are reversible so you can close them completely or accommodate large items. You'll need to remove four screws to do this.

The head can be tilted sideways to hold parts for soldering down close to the bench so you can rest your hand on the bench top and hold the iron steady. The low profile base is ideal for this.

Helpful hint: Solder tends to stick to the base and tray. To avoid this, periodically apply a light film of silicone grease (either spray or paste) to the base and wipe it clean. This will allow easy removal of any solder that has fallen.

The vice does what I intended it for. Holding small parts to paint/hold. The vice/holding fixture rotates and user friendly. I would buy again. Well constructed.

I bought this over a year ago now for my husband to use when he assembles small circuit boards or other gadgets. He absolutely loves it! The base is large enough that it provides good enough stability that he can even work on moveable projects in the house, or if he decides to bolt it into his garage workbench he can do that too. The size of the arm vice isn't always exactly what he needs depending on which project he's working on, especially for smaller circuitry, but he says PanaVise sells additional arms to add on to it for that purpose. So, the work center is really very multi-purpose. Overall, he thinks it's perfect for his needs, particularly when working with small projects like circuit boards, or even hobby work like fixing up old video game consoles or old clock parts.

I'me very happy with my purchase. The base has a good heft to it. It feels very sturdy on the bench when holding my parts for soldering. The little trays around the base are great for holding small screws and such that tend to roll off the bench. I bought the PanaVise 371 Solder Station to go with the vise and the solder holder is great. The solder just rolls off the little spool. The sponge is worthless. Buy yourself a brass shaving tip cleaner. They work really well. This is a quailty product that I can't ever imagine breaking.

Panavise really is the industry standard for a high quality workbench vise. I've used these at work for holding circuit boards and PCB repair and finally decided to purchase one for myself. While it is a little expensive for just a vise, it really is quite versatile and can be used for a variety of jobs. Buying it as a combo like this unit will save you a couple bucks!
