From the Manufacturer

The PanaVise 437 is a rugged fixturing head designed for heavy duty vise applications involving larger objects with flat surfaces. Its 1" shaft means that it suitable for the heaviest of work bench jobs, and also makes it compatible with the PanaVise 400 heavy duty base. Its flat 3" x 6" head allows users to raise items up off of work benches, securing them through any stable combination of the four slots within it. Slots measure just over 1/4" wide and vary in length to add flexability in securing items. They are evenly spaced along the length of the head, making the PanaVise 437 suitable for any heavy duty or even light industrial vise application in which an object can be screwed or bolted into place. This includes everything from maintenance of small engines, to wood-working and even chiseling. The shaft is pre-drilled and tapped with a 1/4-20 hole (screw included) for optional permanent securing to the PanaVise 400 heavy duty base.

This device is very versatile ,especially when used with the Pana -vise heavy duty base.I use mine for holding model ships for assembly. When building a plank- on bulkhead model ship it is best to apply one or two planks on one side of the model, then add that same amount of planks to the other side. With the Pana- vise this is a simple matter of loosening the knob on the Vise base , then swiveling the ship to the other side. This method works well for me. I do some wood-carving. The Pana-vise setup is good for holding work-pieces rigidly for mallet carving.Over all the Pana- Vise is very useful for a number of tasks. With the devise one can mount the Pana-Vise bas on a piece of plywood a foot square or so .Then clamp the assembly to a sturdy table or bench. Then you can remove the Vise and base when not in use, freeing up work space on the work surface. The Vise is stronger than i expected. It appears to be some kind of alloy, not steel. It will stand up to a lot of use though.

This expands the usefulness of the heavy duty panavise and allows holding/fixturing that would be impossible with common home shop tools. Not for hammering but the flexibility is impressive and as you use it more applications will become evident.

Unfortunately, it's the only attachment available for the PanaVise 400. The 300 series has all sorts of attachments but they're all not compatible because they have a smaller diameter shaft. So in order to use any of the 300 attachments you have to make an adapter.

I have this head and the vice and frankly for the size I am amazed how rigid they are. Very much worth the price. I have the vice mounted on a piece of wood and clamp it to my carving table. Works a treat.

This is a fine tool. I have bolted plumbing pipes and a floor flange to it that hold a clay head portrait I am working on. If I had known there is a similar fixturing head that is round in stead of rectangular I would have preferred it though.
