The item seems of reasonable quality and has been used by me now for several weeks. I do have a potential hazard to report: The front legs are too far recessed towards the back causing the grate to tip over forward once a slightly heavier log is placed at the front. This is a serious design flaw and potential fire hazard that should be corrected by moving the front legs further towards the front.

Item is "grate"! Sturdy and strong. Arrived promptly and in excellent condition. Love ordering thru Amazon.

The price was in-line with others I had looked at, so I bought it. It arrived on time, and looked great. During my first fire, I heard a HUGE pop from the fireplace. After the fire died down, I investigated. The thing cracked. I'm not talking about a hairline crack, but a full break in the back part of the grate. I might be able to use it again, but will definately have to buy another grate for next year's fire burning season. I'm not sure if the one's at Home Depot and Lowes are any better for the price, so more research is needed. I would NOT buy this one again. PS: I don't build bonfires, so this wasn't that big of a fire, only 3 logs.

I found that cast iron grates were a little more difficult to find locally, so I ordered the Panacea 24" 15424 model. It arrived quickly and packed fairly considering the weight of the item. The design of the grate is pretty standard for cast iron grates, with a fair amount of spacing between the bars to allow for ash to fall through. It's a fairly stable surface and it will wobble. If pushed or weighed down in the front it has a tendency to tip; however, this hardly ever happens as you load the entire grate with wood. It only happened to me when I was actually pushing on the front while cleaning out of my fireplace, so it's not really a concern. Overall, this Panacea product has good quality and delivers exactly what you expect from the product.

EDIT 11/12/11: While I initially really liked this grate, it failed too quickly like the many grates before it. Guess I'll go back to a different type. We burn wood 5-7 days of the week during the winter and toward the end of last season this grate started coming apart.

This is a good grate for my large fireplace. It holds the coals longer close to the wood so the fire burns longer with less work.

Bought this grate as a Christmas present for my girlfriend, it was the perfect design for her needs and size for her fireplace. About five minutes after lighting the first fire it made a loud metallic ping sound, I later found it had split leaving a 1/4" gap where it broke. I suppose you get what you pay for. It was packed poorly which possibly started the problem in handling. The seller was excellent to deal with and replaced it at no additional cost though we have not had an opportunity to try the new one yet.

This arrived on time and is exactly what I was hoping for. It looks good and helps the fire to burn well and longer.

Seems great so far, no issues with it tipping over the way some people have had. Hope it will last for a long time.

Good deal on fireplace grate. The shipping offset some of the low cost; however, I live in Florida, where there are few stores selling fireplace supplies, and buying locally, it would still have been much more expensive than buying on line and shipping. Be certain to measure the dimensions of your hearth opening; and do not get a grate too large for your fireplace, or cleaning out the ashes becomes more difficult.
