An undiscovered masterpiece, March 22, 2000
This review is from: Panagea (Audio CD)
PANGAEA is one of the finest world fusion/new age CDs ever recorded. The CD brings together exotic string, percussion and wind instruments, eliciting the sounds and feel of East India, the Middle East, and the Far East. The synthesizers are used to color the songs with just enough ambience to make the music accessible to less advneturous listeners. The overall vibe of PANGAEA is relaxed and serene without being the least bit too "new agey." Listening to the CD is like actually visiting the former supercontinent (which is what Pangaea was before the land masses split apart millions of years ago). This image is helped along by the very discrete use of subtle environmental sounds, such as bird song, waves, etc.
Fans of Asian music, in particular, will find a lot here to enjoy. Flutes, koto, and other ethnic instruments flavor this CD while the melodic content is lush and romantic enough for mainstream listeners. All in all, PANGAEA is a masterpiece. It is perfect for playing in the background during massage or bodywork or while reading or doing housework. Personally, I just sit and listen to it when I'm stressed out and I ususlly always come away refreshed.
Finally, the cover art is gorgeous and liner notes do a good job explaining the concept of the supercontinent. With all that plus the great music on the CD, what else could you ask for?

A review in verse in tribute to an album I treasure, July 18, 2011
This review is from: Panagea (Audio CD)
This album I treasure, and so in tribute,
a review in verse I do write
An album home to azure
and viridescent melodies
Pangaea, an Elysian delight.
Especially is track 1 a beaut
'Twas composed by musician Ron Korb
Who plays the flute,
the Peruvian & bamboo.
Track 2 my earshells absorb
the imparadising playing
of the beautiful instruments and notes
So exotic, dulcet is
Music For The Morning Of The World
Here where on Panthalassa I float
waterborne along the world's largest ocean
Insulared from the day's concerns
Cocooned on this island in Space
The wafting breeze redolent of sun-tan lotion.
Was the earth on our planet at one time
a mass of land, undivided and one?
For more info one can read the CD's liner story
written by Scott Mackay, where it tells
of eons ago, of there being such a time
when separate continents on Earth there was none.
Edenic it was way back when,
and does this music ever capture the time
So picturesque, peaceful, tropical and lush
are these instrumentals that go together
so perfectly, like a rhyme.
Pangaea is my most
cherished New Age album of all time.
Like I said, a real musical treasure
With track 2 being the greatest gem
that I have ever heard, or at least
on par with Ray Lynch's The Oh Of Pleasure,
as being my favorite New Age songs of all.
Oh how I love this sound of the calls of birds,
and of the communion of water and land by rote
Various exotic instruments by guest musicians -
the shakuhachi, the oboe, & the Japanese koto -
can also be heard on this album
by Canadian music artist Stephen Bacchus
A multi-instrumentalist, keyboardist,
who composed all the music on this album
except for track one.
And so I am done waxing poetic o'er
this beautiful work of sound art
Bet let it be known that
Pangaea was released in '91,
contains six tracks,
at an album length of 43:08.
But wait! - most of all I want it said
Pangaea I hold dear to my heart.
