This review is from: Panamax 2 Outlet Av Surge Protector Nic (Electronics)
A lightning strike to the cable coming into your house can kill your TV and electronics connected to it. After this happened to a close friend, we decided to protect all our TVs with high-quality surge protectors that met the following minimal specifications:
a) Clamping voltage ~300 volts (lower is better). At voltages above this, electricity will be conducted to the ground line. b) Energy dissipation > 1000 Joules. This is how much energy can be absorbed by the surge protector before it fails. A bigger number is better. Two of our TVs are positioned such that I could connect them to Philips SPP1135WA 8-Outlet Home Theater Surge protectors that are inconspicuous because of how the TVs are installed. The TV in our guest room is wall-mounted, so I needed a small surge protector that sat behind the TV and met my minimal requirements. The Panamax M2AV does exactly that - clamping voltage of 330 volts, and energy dissipation of 1350 Joules. It is a little pricey, but Panamax has a good reputation as a manufacturer of AV accessories, and I think it is worth it to protect a TV that's 20-times the cost of the protector. |
