Nice feature after you go thru the painful setup., January 22, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic BL-MS103PK Wireless Camera Monitoring System Package (Silver) (Personal Computers)
It is a great system but the setup was a pain. It won't be that painful if the instruction told me that if I want internet access for my camera. I have to set them as Remote camera. The fact is they should have separate steps for setting it up for Local viewing only and Internet and Local viewing. To set this thing up, find someone is network expert to do it for you. Otherwise, you will hate this great product.
For those already bought it and the tips setting it up. From the Quick start, after finished step 1 - 3, you are going to run put the quick setup CD into your computer that is on the same network. after you finished setup 1 camera for internet viewing. Use the Camera list to find the new IP and port number. Go to your router setup page and reserve the IP address for that camera.
Now on your BL-WV10A, the camera you just setup is not accessible because of the IP and port changed on that camera. So now u go to the BL-WV10A setup menu. go to Camera Setting and delete the one you just setup, e.g. CAM1 (LOCAL), then at the Empty slot, press enter. It shows a Remote Camera setup page. Now enter the name of the camera you want, and enter the IP and the port number, which you got from the Camera list from your computer earier, into the boxes. Use save password On feature, or it will be pain to enter those username password every time you want to access the camera. Now you should able to see that camera again on your TV.
Now use your computer, type in the IP address of your camera, login and click the setup tab, click Network, click static. Enter the IP and port number into the boxes if they are blank. click save. This step is for just in case your router restarted and it assign a new ip address to your camera and then because of the ip change the BL-WV10A won't able to see it again.
You could archive the same goal by using DHCP option but I won't get into detail with that since I don't really trust the DHCP to map IPs.
Repeat the steps until all 3 camera are setup and able to see on Internet. The point is think when the camera able to see on Internet, it is a remote camera even they are in the same network with your BL-WV10A.
It is a great product, pain to set it up but like most of our computer thing. They never sound as simple as they look. But after the setup it is a breeze to use. Just login and able to see all camera on the same page and control them. I tried on my cell phone and it works too. :) Just remember to use refresh rate 3s or more. The motion option is not working for phone or PDA since it won't run ActiveX Object.

Works Great as Advertised!, December 26, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic BL-MS103PK Wireless Camera Monitoring System Package (Silver) (Personal Computers)
I can monitor and control the camera's from anywhere in the world using the internet, as well as monitor and control the camera's on my tv. The keyword here is MONITOR. These Panasonic camera's are basically webcams, and should NEVER be compared to a professional grade CCTV security camera system. Even their own website refers to them as "pet cams".
I previously purchased a single BL-C30A camera that worked so well that I needed more for other areas of the house. The BL-MS103-PK ($500 less than the MS103-A version) fit the bill, plus I could connect and control each camera from my TV. The BL-MS103-PK comes with 3 BLC30A cameras, and a BL-WV10A monitoring unit (the part that connects to the tv).
Pros: Panasonic provided DDNS service (viewnetcam.com) which allows for internet viewing from anywhere in the world (apparently you can can also view from your pda and/or cell phone too, but I haven't tried). You can even Pan and Tilt the camera (and digital zoom) over the internet for versatility.
Cons: Cumbersome setup, but not much more complicated than setting up any other wireless peripheral. I used software version 1.23, but I saw they have 1.30 on the Panasonic website. I don`t know if that would have made it easier. I'd rate the difficulty of setting up the camera's as a 7 (10 being most difficult) for the first camera, and 1 for all camera's after it.
Generally I don't agree with the other 3 reviews on the BL-MS103-A. Trying to use a webcam as a security system is just foolish. Unable to view 3 cams on one page? I can view all 4 of my cams on one page, and if I had 12 cams, I could watch all 12 at once! To get a better idea of the review ratings, look at the reviews for the BL-C30A camera. This is the real meat of this kit.
