1.0 out of 5 stars Imitation / knockoff - not a Panasonic battery
Take your choice of adjective: knockoff, counterfeit, imitation...

Mine was shipped directly from China and on the back of the package you find "suitable for Panasonic cameras". The real battery that came with my camera has the Panasonic copyright on the battery and is made in Japan.

This review is from: Panasonic CGR-S006A/1B Li-ion Battery for Panasonic FZ50, FZ7, FZ18, and FZ30 Digital Cameras (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
When I purchased my Panasonic Lumix FZ50, I purchased a spare battery since I am in the field a lot and for long hours of constant shooting. In practical terms, this is the best photo battery I have ever used. It stays constant throughtout it's usage time. My camera tells me how many exposures it will create on the power available on the battery and it has delivered pretty much on the money. There are no fluctuations, drops or surges in output, even toward the end or the cycle. The FZ50 is a 10.1mp digital camera and the CGR-S006A/1B battery gives me 384 images before needing to be recharged. That is a very large number of exposures for one battery. Of course, if you begin using all of the power eating options, Full Auto, electronic flash, etc. that number is going to be reduced a bit but the average photographer isn't going to use that much in a single day or if he does, he/she has a backup. just in case. The most attractive feature in this battery is "No Memory". If you have only used up half the usable power, just put it in the charger and bring it back to 100% without worrying about charging to full the next time.

I got stuck with an imitation once before and did not realize the difference between it and a real Panasonic battery until I was two weeks into a trip in Europe when the imitation one died ... just when I had an opportunity to keep shooting and get interesting shots.

This time I trusted Amazon and the ad that said it was a Panasonic battery for Panasonic cameras. Evidently Amazon got hoodwinked as well. I left it at home and took two cameras to Europe for this year's trip.

The battery will probably work for a few months and it's a hassle to send it back so I don't know if I will.

What I'd really like to do is pay for it with some counterfeit Chinese currency.

1.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic camera bettery (Panasonic CGR-S006A/1B Li-ion Battery), December 25, 2008

Low opinion - overall. This was a replacement back up battery for my Panasonic Camera DMC-FZ18. The original battery I received with the camera can hold charge up to 10 days and worth abouth 400 pictures. In comparison this replacement battery held charge for 5 days and was only worth 80 to 90 pictures. Overall I am dissapointed. I bought it thinking it would be as good as the original, given that it was advertised as a Panasonic product. I've learned that I can not take the advertisement at its word, nor trust Panasonic for having lent their brand name to this flakey replacement product.

This is the first time that I have had a battery in a camera that I did not think would give out in the middle of my picture taking. I cannot get over how many pictures I have been able to take without changing the battery. In fact, I have taken several hundred pictures with my Panasonic DMC-FZ7 and find it to be the most carefree combination. Charge time is so fast. I bought an extra battery to be sure I would not run out of power but have found I do not need it but I sure am glad I have it.

It's a battery, it fits the Lumix FZ50. It costs fifty bucks, which is probably about twice what it's really worth but if you need a battery for an FZ50, it is your only choice as far as I know. It does do the job, although it leaks away a full charge within a week while sitting in your camera bag. I'd recommend removing the battery from your camera if it's going to sit unused for very long.

I am a photographer and my camera battery life is critical. This battery lasts longer than any other battery I have used.

This is my first experience with this type of battery, and I have been quite pleased. I took it to Hawaii and was able to shoot all day on one battery.

The first time I used this battery the red "your battery is dying" light came on after I had taken maybe a dozen pictures and less than 20 minutes after I powered up the camera. Since I didn't use this battery until after the 30 day return period I couldn't return it to Amazon and I couldn't get a replacement from Panasonic despite a lengthy call to Panasonic Customer Service. So one moral of the story is to use the new battery immediately and keep using it until it runs down (which may take no time at all). And since I paid full price for this battery simply because it was the name brand, the second lesson is, buy the cheap batteries. Can they be any worse?

There's not too much to say about it. It's a battery that works, it holds a charge for quite a while. I can go a number of days on it as long as I turn the camera off when it's not being used.

Very pleased with Panasonic battery. Dependable, long life. Tried some third party batteries that were totally unsatisfactory. Pay more for the best. You'll be glad you did.
