Video Technology
With Digital Velocity Modulated Scan, circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses transitions from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in sharp black-to-white transitions. The set's wideband video amplifier expands the video frequency response to more than 10 MHz, allowing for a horizontal resolution capability of more than 800 lines. Also, a three-line digital comb filter prevents any two lines with different colors from being processed simultaneously, minimizing any "hanging dots" in the image, while vertical edge correction works in conjunction with the digital comb filter to sharpen horizontal image edges.
Audio Technology
BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility, and restores the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound. Surround Sound simulates stereo sound--even from a monaural source--by delaying the original, two-channel sound to create a "surround" effect. Artificial Intelligence Sound Control (AISC) maintains an even sound level to prevent wide variations in volume among different TV channels and types of programming.
Connections
A suite of inputs accommodates most video sources (from standard composite-video to high-resolution component-video), and front-panel connectors foster easy hookups with camcorders, digital cameras, VCRs, or gaming consoles. You can also label the various inputs for easy selection.
Other Features
A feature called Channel Banner captures information transmitted with each TV program and places it onscreen in a semi-transparent banner. This information includes TV station identification and the program's V-Chip rating. Parental controls include channel lock and game guard, and a programmable on/off timer lets you limit viewing times (or rouse yourself from post-dinner slumber just in time for the 11 o'clock news). In addition to basic television controls, the set's remote can operate most VCRs, cable boxes, and DVD players. Illuminated buttons make it easier to use the remote in darkened rooms.

I really love this television,
By R Connelly (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic CT-27SX12 27" TV with PureFlat Screen (Electronics)
I had the opportunity to place the CT-27SX12 Tau next to a Toshiba 27AF41 and Sony WEGA KV-27FV17. They all had stunning video that could be adjusted to suit just about any preference for color intensity, brightness, contrast, or sharpness. Of all three, the Panasonic distinguished itself in video geometry and sharpness. The Toshiba looked fine displaying cable and dvd, but definitely had vertical geometry problems which could be easily observed with a test bar pattern. Also, focus problems in the lower corners became apparent whenever scrolling text was displayed at the bottom of the screen, as with a stock channel ticker or weather/news ticker. Like nearly all Sony WEGA's the KV-27FV17 looked great when displaying cable or dvd, but it did show the slight pink halo effect on bright white backgrounds. In the video area I gave the Panasonic the edge. All three sets had outstanding audio. I like lots of low end and found all three sets could pump out very clean audio. The Toshiba case, however, had a mid-bass rattle or resonance that drove me crazy at 50% volume or higher. The Panasonic and Sony could go loud enough to drive you from the room without any hint of distortion or sound artifacts. Case integrity and strength went in favor of the Panasonic in my opinion. It is solidly put together, you won't see side warping or hear rattling with this one. So... in the end, I ended up returning the Toshiba and Sony, and I kept the Panasonic. No regrets, it is a full-featured, well built, awesome 27" flat screen.

Best Picture for the Price, Jaw Dropping DVD/XBOX Playback,
By Jasen Vinlove (Springfield, Il USA) - See all my reviews

The PANOSONIC ct-27sx12 is probably the Best picture in its price range, I work @ Best Buy and have been looking for a 27inch Flat Screen for some while now, the picture when using analog cable is very good , DVD and XBOX playback when using AV composite cables is Jaw Dropping, Can not wait to get my digital Dish hooked up and running thru s-video to take advantage of the 700 lines of resolution, I have a very good home theater with Yahmaha amp and JBL surround speakers, and this compliments my small living room just fine ! highly recomended

I won't list all the great features this tv has because other reviewers have done a far better job then I could.I had narrowed my choices down between a Sony WEGA and this Panasonic. I went to several local big name electronic stores and compared the the Sony and Panasonic picture, side by side. Both pictures look great. There were very little difference. Features were very nearly equal. But be aware that the picture quality depends on how the electronic stores have the tv's hooked up. I went from one big name electronic store to another one literally across the street and the picture quality between the Sony and Panasonic were differet between the two stores. You won't truly get a good idea of the true picture quality until you get it home. This applies to any tv. What made up my mind was that I've read several complaints about the Sony WEGA line having HALO effects and a Pink stripe in the picture. That worried me. There were many complaints about this problem. The Panasonic has BETTER sound then the Sony. The sound is FANTASIC. The Panasonic has 'BBE high-definition audio enhancement' which provides crisp and clear and loud audio. Loud in a good way. Combined with the 14 watt (total) speakers you can hear every word and breath of dialog that actors speak. Gun shots and explosions sound great! The Panasonic produces crisp and clear picture. The colors are vivid and true to life. There are no HALO or Pink stripe or any other picture distortions. Set up as easy. My only complaint was the weight of the tv. It's around 108 pounds. The box the tv was packed in was bulky. You can't get a good solid grip. There were no hand holds built into the box. I would suggest that you bring a buddy with you to help you man handle the tv. Be sure to have your buddy hang around to help you get the tv out of the box and lift it up onto the tv stand. The weight and lack of hand holds built into the box was why I almost gave the Panasonic 4 stars instead of 5. But I think tv performace is more important then packaging. Oh, the Panasonic was less money then the Sony. I got is on sale. The Panasonic has a Sound Level Monitor feature that the Sony didn't have. This feature keeps the tv commercials from blasting you out of your chair with their usually LOUDER volume level. This might not seem like a major feature but for those of us who use the tv sleep timer to help us drift off to sleep, it's a life saver.
