HDTV compatible, this TV is capable of receiving and playing digital TV programming that is broadcast in either 1080i or 720p format. The TV must be connected to a DTV set-top box by its component video inputs and switched to DTV mode (an external, over-the-air antenna may be required). Other video features include a fine-pitch picture tube to enable an image with much finer detail, horizontal edge correction to sharpen the edges of objects in the picture, and color transient improvement that minimizes color smear at the edges of images to ensure clear, distinct colors.
For audio, the CT32HX40 features a built-in stereo/SAP decoder with dbx noise reduction to receive both Separate Audio Program (SAP) and TV stereo telecasts where available. A dbx noise reduction system helps provide clear, crisp sound with proper stereo separation, and 3-D Spatializer surround sound creates an enveloping 3-D sound experience from just two speakers. A center-channel audio input jack and a full host of audio-video jacks (front and rear) ensure that this TV will integrate seamlessly with your home theater system or allow you to build a full audio system around it. Separate bass, treble, and balance controls let you adjust the sound to your personal preference, and the Artificial Intelligence sound level control controls the volume level automatically to prevent wide variations in volume among different TV channels and types of programming.
Convenience features include 16-channel favorite-channel scan, a 181-channel NTSC tuner, built-in closed-caption decoder, and channel labeling capability (create your own captions for channels) with 48 presets. The V-chip program lock out helps parents lock out unwanted programming, and the programmable timer allows you to program the TV to turn itself on and off at a selected channel and time every day. The Roller Guide menu system lets you select features or make adjustments to your television with icons that are placed on a roller at the left edge of the picture so that icons don't cover the screen.
The CT32HX40 comes with a Director lighted home theater remote control that operates most current audio and video equipment, making it the only remote you'll need to operate your home cinema components.
The Panasonic CT32HX40 comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
Unlike regular curved TV screens, our PureFlat screen minimizes reflections and displays a distortion-free picture with incredible depth and clarity. Powerful stereo speakers and surround sound systems provide the perfect audio accompaniment.
Several Tau Series TVs are DTV-compatible so they can display DTV programming in a high-resolution format. These models feature advanced digital processing technology, such as ID-1 detection for anamorphic DVD and 10-bit/57 MHz digital-to-analog conversion, for the optimum picture quality from today's digital sources. The analog sets in the Tau Series have component video inputs for hookup of an optional HDTV receiver/decoder.
Each Tau Series television features a generous supply of input and output jacks so you can easily hook up all the latest digital audio and video components. Controlling your system is easy too, thanks to our lighted universal remotes.

Great TV if you can get one without defects,

This review is from: Panasonic CT32HX40 32" TAU Pure Flat Screen HDTV-Ready TV (Electronics)
I went through three of these before giving up.Set #1 died withing 10 minutes of plugging it in. Set #2 had a color problem where blond hair looked green, dirt on a baseball field looked green, etc. Set #3 had a geometry problem where the bottom of the screen was bowed so an ESPN ticker looked like it was rolling downhill. If I had a set that combined the geometry of set #2 and the colors of #3, this product would have received 5 stars. It has tons of inputs, is a smaller size that fits into my entertainment center, and had an outstanding picture not counting color or geometry problems.

This set has a serious problem with color. It is impossible to get normal skintones, etc. on broadcast programming, and when I play a DVD, everything has a greenish cast. Plus, I went through 3 new VCRs before I finally figured out it was the TV! Either there is static in the audio when playing a tape, or wavy lines at the bottom (this was with 2 top-of-the-line new Panasonic VCRs, so you'd think they would be compatible). I am sending mine back. Update: I have now purchased a Sony XBR 32 inch flat screen HDTV and I LOVE it! Color is crisp and authentic and all home theater equipment works exceptionally well.

I am not sure why people are having so much trouble with this TV, I loved it the minute I saw it displayed, and I went got one. So far it has been great, but it does require good source. Bad source, bad picture, like the one metioned below. If you are feeding VCR signal to the TV, how can you expect good quality pictures? I don't have red push or greenish problems, everything look sharp. Red push can be resolved by tuning the TV with avia tools.
