Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Panasonic CT36HX40 has a 36-inch PureFlat screen with a two-tuner picture-in-picture, split-screen display, a progressive-scan doubler for an incredibly sharp picture, and a 3-D comb filter to remove dot crawl and increase color separation.

HDTV compatible, this TV is capable of receiving and playing DTV programming that is broadcast in either 1080i or 720p format. The TV must be connected to a DTV set-top box by its component video inputs and switched to DTV mode (an external, over-the-air antenna may be required). Other video features include a fine-pitch picture tube to enable an image with much finer detail, horizontal edge correction to sharpen the edges of objects in the picture, and color transient improvement that minimizes color smear at the edges of images to ensure clear, distinct colors.

For audio, the CT36HX40 features a built-in stereo/SAP decoder with dbx noise reduction to receive both Separate Audio Program (SAP) and TV stereo telecasts where available. A dbx noise reduction system helps provide clear, crisp sound with proper stereo separation, and 3-D Spatializer surround sound creates an enveloping 3-D sound experience from just two speakers. A center-channel audio input jack and a full host of A/V jacks (front and rear) ensure that this TV will integrate seamlessly with your home theater system or allow you to build a full audio system around it. Separate bass, treble, and balance controls let you adjust the sound to your personal preference, and the Artificial Intelligence sound-level control adjusts the volume level automatically to prevent wide variations in volume among different TV channels and types of programming.

Convenience features include 16-channel favorite-channel scan, a 181-channel NTSC tuner, built-in closed caption decoder, and channel labeling capability (create your own captions for channels) with 48 presets. V-chip program lock out helps parents lock out unwanted programming, and the programmable timer allows you to program the TV to turn itself on and off at a selected channel and time every day. The Roller Guide menu system lets you select features or make adjustments to your television with icons that are placed on a roller at the left edge of the picture so that icons don't cover the screen.

The CT36HX40 comes with a Director lighted home theater remote control that operates most current audio and video equipment, making it the only remote you'll need to operate your home cinema components.

The Panasonic CT36HX40 comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

From the Manufacturer

Out of the quest for the perfect viewing experience comes what might well be the most intelligently designed line of televisions ever made: Panasonic Tau Series PureFlat televisions. Offering our flattest screens to date and industry-leading digital technology, Tau Series PureFlat televisions shatter all previous ideals of picture and sound quality, and set new standards in design and ease of use.

Unlike regular curved TV screens, our PureFlat screen minimizes reflections and displays a distortion-free picture with incredible depth and clarity. Powerful stereo speakers and surround sound systems provide the perfect audio accompaniment.

Several Tau Series TVs are DTV-compatible so they can display DTV programming in a high-resolution format. These models feature advanced digital processing technology, such as ID-1 detection for anamorphic DVD and 10-bit/57 MHz digital-to-analog conversion, for the optimum picture quality from today's digital sources. The analog sets in the Tau Series have component video inputs for hookup of an optional HDTV receiver/decoder.

Each Tau Series television features a generous supply of input and output jacks so you can easily hook up all the latest digital audio and video components. Controlling your system is easy too, thanks to our lighted universal remotes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony vs Panasonic, October 17, 2001

I finally settled with the Panasonic 36" HDTV over the Sony 36 Wega. I bought the Wega last year and had nothing but problems with the picture. My eyes couldn't handle the brightness and contrast settings.. they were just too too bright. Watching sporting events where there were a lot of white jerseys would drive me up a wall. I looked into the HDTV Sony and it did the same thing.. I now have the 36" Panasonic HDTV and I am totally content with the picture. I did a lot of investigations and they say to get the AVIA setup disk to get the colors down.. then you'll have a picture like NO SONY! I LOVE this TV!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Set is Awesome!!, February 23, 2002

This review is from: Panasonic CT36HX40 36" TAU Pure Flat Screen HDTV-Ready TV (Electronics)
My wife and I have been nursing along a 21-year old, 19-inch GTE/Sylvania color TV, that she had purchased as a Freshman in college. Single speaker, retractable rabbit antenna . . .
the unit is probably coal-burning.

Enter the world of "INVAR Shadow Masks", "Anamorphic DVD Detection", and "3D Y/C Digital Comb Filter". While these sounded like instruments of a CIA field agent . . we just wanted a great picture. Not wanting to look like total imbeciles, we researched the Net, including the Amazon site.

After going to numerous stores to compare 36-inch sets, we can say without qualification - the picture clarity on the Panasonic CT36HX40 literally spanks the pants off anything else we looked at . . with the possible exception of the SONY XBR250 - the set we originally considered.

The problem with the SONY XBR250 is that at 40-inches across, it's impossible to find a well-made entertainment center large enough to hold this digital mausoleum. The only alternative was to have a cabinet-maker do a custom-build . . or order a Contemporary glass/chrome TV pedestal/settee...

We have hooked up the Panasonic set to a SONY DVPNS700P DVD player/ w progressive scan, and so far, the the picture has been astonishing. For those who don't want to hire the Army Corps of Engineers to install a 5-channel home-theatre/ video receiver/AC3 experience, or go throught a pre-flight check before turning the unit on, the Pansonic provides a nice 3D surround sound built right-into the set.

Do yourself a huge favor and have it home-delivered. [The set is] 242 lbs...

5.0 out of 5 stars If you can afford it, look no futher, October 20, 2001

I have had this exact model for about a month. The quality is unbelievable. The interpolation makes even the weakest cable signal sharp and strong. DVD images are so crisp with absolute fine detail. It is big enough so that even a widescreen DVD appears big. The sound is clear. I have no regrets with this one.
