Sony vs Panasonic,
By
This review is from: Panasonic CT36HX40 36" TAU Pure Flat Screen HDTV-Ready TV (Electronics)
I finally settled with the Panasonic 36" HDTV over the Sony 36 Wega. I bought the Wega last year and had nothing but problems with the picture. My eyes couldn't handle the brightness and contrast settings.. they were just too too bright. Watching sporting events where there were a lot of white jerseys would drive me up a wall. I looked into the HDTV Sony and it did the same thing.. I now have the 36" Panasonic HDTV and I am totally content with the picture. I did a lot of investigations and they say to get the AVIA setup disk to get the colors down.. then you'll have a picture like NO SONY! I LOVE this TV!

This Set is Awesome!!,

My wife and I have been nursing along a 21-year old, 19-inch GTE/Sylvania color TV, that she had purchased as a Freshman in college. Single speaker, retractable rabbit antenna . . . the unit is probably coal-burning. Enter the world of "INVAR Shadow Masks", "Anamorphic DVD Detection", and "3D Y/C Digital Comb Filter". While these sounded like instruments of a CIA field agent . . we just wanted a great picture. Not wanting to look like total imbeciles, we researched the Net, including the Amazon site. After going to numerous stores to compare 36-inch sets, we can say without qualification - the picture clarity on the Panasonic CT36HX40 literally spanks the pants off anything else we looked at . . with the possible exception of the SONY XBR250 - the set we originally considered. The problem with the SONY XBR250 is that at 40-inches across, it's impossible to find a well-made entertainment center large enough to hold this digital mausoleum. The only alternative was to have a cabinet-maker do a custom-build . . or order a Contemporary glass/chrome TV pedestal/settee... We have hooked up the Panasonic set to a SONY DVPNS700P DVD player/ w progressive scan, and so far, the the picture has been astonishing. For those who don't want to hire the Army Corps of Engineers to install a 5-channel home-theatre/ video receiver/AC3 experience, or go throught a pre-flight check before turning the unit on, the Pansonic provides a nice 3D surround sound built right-into the set. Do yourself a huge favor and have it home-delivered. [The set is] 242 lbs...

I have had this exact model for about a month. The quality is unbelievable. The interpolation makes even the weakest cable signal sharp and strong. DVD images are so crisp with absolute fine detail. It is big enough so that even a widescreen DVD appears big. The sound is clear. I have no regrets with this one.

at 24" D, least depth in class,

Got this TV a month ago and have been very happy. Ditto what others say about picture quality... to my eyes better than Toshiba and Sony sets I considered. One item others haven't mentioned is depth. At 24" deep this is the most svelte 36" HDTV (-ready) I could find. We've put it in an entertainment center made of stock cabinetry, anything over 24" would have hung over the front edge. This set fits perfectly.

I've owned this model for about four months. Before buying it I read the reviews in Stereophile Home Theatre magazine, and looked at multiple brands including Sony, JVC, sand Toshiba. I agree with Stereophile and Home Theatre's assesment. The set comes from the factory set with too much gain. But if you are willing to spend a few minutes setting it up with the Video Essentials DVD you'll be well rewarded. On HD and DVD sources the picture is truly superb. On regular broadcasts (NTSC) the picture shows all the reasons to hope the switch to HD occurs faster. The sound is OK, but I'd use an external sound sysytem if this is your primary home theatre tv. In a bedroom, the sound is fine.

6 stars.I recently shopped HDTVs and had a look at the CT36HX40. It's absolutely incredible. It reduces the watcher to an immovable mass of jelly, content to sit staring even at commercials. Alas, it's outside my budgetary window, so I'll have to impatiently sit and wait for prices to come down. I've never seen detail, brightness and lifelike contrast like this. I might yet be able to turn into a couch potato if we ever get one of these...

The first thing i noticed about this Tv when i was comparing it to the Sony 36 inch HDTV was that the picture was so much clearer on this one...also it was easy to hear the sound even in a noisy place like Best Buy.. It wasn't hooked up to a surround sound system but simulated 3-d surround sound. I have it hooked up to a Panasonic Dvd player and progressive scan looks great!!! BUY THIS TV!!!!!!

Panasonic CT36HX41 HDTV,

I bought the Panasonic rather than the Sony XBR, which was my first choice, because the Sony would not fit into a custom-built cabinet. The Panasonic has been very disappointing. The features are great, but it has totally unacceptable color, with a heavy green cast to everything that cannot be corrected with the color controls. The line doubler also produces very distracting artifacts on normal broadcast reception. After a weekend with the Avia calibration disk and a service call, I am returning this set and getting a Sony I can rely on.

TOOK MINE BACK,

I appreciated all the time people took to write reviews, as they were quite helpful to me so I thought I would reciprocate and share my experience. The picture was great as everyone said, but nobody mentioned one thing that was important to me. THE SOUND ON THE T.V. IS TERRIBLE. They put [price] speakers in a [price] television. Yes, I have a surround system and that works great, but I don't want to have to fire up the stereo at 7 in the morning just to watch the morning news. If you keep this in the basement and really don't care about the sound from the TV speakers then this is a good one for you. If you keep it in the family room and don't always run it through the surround sound then this TV will make you crazy. Maybe it's just me, but give a good listen before you buy this television.

Feature & Picture,
This review is from: Panasonic CT36HX40 36" TAU Pure Flat Screen HDTV-Ready TV (Electronics)
This tv is a flagship for its sound, picture and features. The sound has an A/I capibility for even better sound. It also has a 3-D Spatializer. This makes the sound, sound like it's coming from the front and the sides of you. This picture is great. It has a 3D-Y/C FILTER for better picture resolution. It is also easy to change the color tone. You can change it between WARM, COOL, and NORMAL. The features are very useful. There are parental controls, timers, automatic programming, and more. The review with the green tint probably had their tint coloring all the way to max or min. It should be in the middle for normal color.
