If I could give the Panasonic SC-NE1 Speaker 10 stars I would because it's absolutely amazing! Let me start off by saying that you basically take it out the box, plug it in and pair your device and that's it. The setup was so simple and easy to do and took less than 2 minutes no joke! I paired my iMac, iPad 2, iPod Touch 5th generation, Windows 8 desktop and two Windows 7 laptops. You can only connect one device to the speaker at a time. I also downloaded the the Panasonic iOS Music Streaming App which made the music sound even better than playing it through the Music App on my iPad. I plan on mounting the speaker to the wall behind my desk in my home office so I was happy that Panasonic included two small wall mount brackets in the box. I have included what comes in the box below:

1. Remote control (with a battery already installed)
2. 1 AC power supply cord
3. Wall mounting accessories that include 1 screw, safety holder and the 2 wall mounting brackets.
4. Owner's Manual

The speaker has a maximum range of 33 feet and according to the owner's manual can decrease depending on the environment, obstacles or interference. It also uses a frequency band of 2.4 GHz. There are two levels of surround sound. You can choose from level 1 or level 2 and the volume level has a maximum level of 50. I felt like the sound quality was excellent and I agree with the product description when it states that the speaker has high quality sound with Pure Dynamic Sound. The bass is amazing on this speaker! There is even a Dynamic Bass sound effect selector. The total output is 40 watts. I played about 10 different songs from various genres of music and each song was crisp and clear. I haven't tested the speaker with an Android device yet so I don't know how good the quality is yet.

Why is this cheap? Because it has no rechargeable battery inside. The battery to support 40W power over hours would need to be huge. Just about any bluetooth speakers out there include a battery, so they have to use lower power amplifiers, resulting in tiny sound. So if you have a place to plug in, then you'll get a lot more bang, or in this case thump, for your buck.

Sound quality: flat + good by default or powerful + distorted when tweaked. By default, the speaker generates high quality mid tone but lacks the high and low end. If you don't need the thump then this would be your best setting. When tweaked the settings, you can get a lot of bass and treble, but then distortion becomes a factor. Increasing the volume makes distortion increasingly worse. Regardless of settings you'll never get a solid kick or sparkling high like those of a quality car/home audio system (but that's an unfair comparison). The settings include:
. D-Bass
. Base +1, +2, +3, +4
. Treb +1, +2, +3, +4
. Input Level +1, +2
. Put the back near a wall will also greatly increase the bass

Bottom line: there is no miracle here, but it's hard to get better sound for under a hundred bucks. The convenience of bluetooth and ease of operation usually triumphs utmost quality. The guests visiting my home can play their own music via their own cell phones. My serious multi-thousand dollar audio system (Harman kardon amp / Paradigm tower speakers) get used less often, although I'm seriously considering adding a blue-tooth adapter to it.

** UPDATE **

After living with this speaker for a month or so, I find myself extremely frustrated by the Bluetooth connectivity issues. I'm not sure that it's necessarily a problem with the speaker itself. Streaming ranges from decent (some hiccups periodically) to unusable. Often the music stutters incessantly to the point of unlistenability. It may be due to my computer being used for tasks other than streaming, but if so, it's important to note. If you're planning to use this speaker to stream music while using your computer, be warned that the performance to be atrocious. And again, that probably goes for all Bluetooth speakers. This just happens to be the one I've used the most. When using the wired AUX connection with my iPod, I am still very pleased with the sound.

** Original Review **

The Panasonic SC-NE1 is the third compact speaker system that I've either purchased or received to review in the last few years, and in this review, I will compare all three models: the Panasonic SC-NE1 ($200), the Hercules WAE-WBT06 (ca. $380), and an earlier model of the Klipsch iGroove SXT ($150). Each have strengths and weaknesses, and each have a very different sound profile, so the best model will depend on your personal listening habits.

First, a few details on the Panasonic model. It's a wireless bluetooth receiver, it has an auxiliary input, and it uses two 3-1/8 inch woofers with two 1 inch tweeters. The speaker is fairly light and the body is made of plastic. There are a few extra digital signal processing (DSP) features that have a negligible effect on the sound. Panasonic's "Bluetooth Re-Master" feature supposedly adds some treble to the audio signals to compensate for whatever compressed audio you may send it from a phone or computer.
