4.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic still a favorite
I bought this camera on a whim and don't regret it. The price was great, the camera is light and easy to travel with, battery life impressive, cameras functions are easy to use and picture couldn't be better. I love the size of the screen shot and the many options this camera offers. I'd buy it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flawed image stabilizer, otherwise a great camera
I have used this camera for more than a year. I have owned Canon and Fuji (all point-and-shoot class). The indoor picture quality of this camera is very poor compared to Canon. The color is washed out and image is not as sharp. Occasionally I would get blurred pictures for no good reason, I am guessing that my hand wasn't still and it's hard to keep your hand still...

i have an fz50 and a leica d-lux 2 made along with panasonic. my wife wanted a pocket replacement for her ancient casio with a postage stamp size screen. she picked this one in spite of a lack of viewfinder. it is truly pocket size and quick reacting. beautiful results. don't expect miracles shooting in low light without a flash. turn the flash on and live with it, or practioce alot with the flash off. panasonic makes solid electronics, and leica lenses are the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little camera, October 9, 2007

I bought this camera for my wife because she wanted something small and simple as an alternative to my camera. It is definitely small easily fitting in a purse or shirt pocket. The quality feels good and the option for a pink color was a nice touch. The necessary functions of the camera are easy to find and use. I know that, because if they weren't my wife would be more frustrated and lets me know when she can't figure something out. It takes decent snapshots. Not being one to work with lots of features, she manages just fine.

This is the third digital camera I bought, all Panasonic. I have done detailed pre-purchase comparisons I find that Panasonic has high quality and features for a better price than the more well-known brands such as Canon or Sony. I do select for media type and rule out anything that doesn't use SD cards because I have lots of them from several devices. It doesn't have a viewfinder, but the LCD screen is big and bright covering most of the back of the camera. Image stabilization is a good feature for someone who takes snapshots without thinking about the camera settings.

I haven't evaluated the fine points of picture quality... that's not what I bought the camera for. Her first use was to take new-born pictures of our grandson. We were all satisfied with the results.

4.0 out of 5 stars beautiful buy beautiful camera, August 30, 2007
I love the LCD screen. the stabilizer was very important to me as well as quick and easy to use timer. the timer has several settings as well. you can take pictures in motion, in the darkest of areas and from far away. i took a picture in the park of all the trees and was able to zoom in on a squirrel and crop it as another picture. the battery life is not the best. Invest in a back up.
I gave it 4 out of 5 because once your pics are viewed and saved on your computer thay go into a hidden folder in your camera. i wanted to save a picture on camera to show a friend without access to a PC. this could be a feature i have yet to figure out. as for the rest of the fuctions it is very easy to follow.

I bought this camera in April 2007 and have taken just about 12,000 pictures with it to date. It has nice, easy features and settings that correspond to common activities, like pictures of landscapes, portraits, babies, fireworks, etc. but you really need to know what you're doing in order for these settings to make nice pictures.

I've had some issues with settings being set to one of the options and then realizing my pictures were coming out blurry or really grainy because of what I was taking a picture of with the wrong setting. It was entirely my fault but something to be on the lookout for if your pictures aren't coming out right. This camera doesn't work in the dark without the flash. However, if you have sufficient light, it can take WONDERFUL pictures without the flash.

With regard to the video portion, I'm bummed you can't zoom in our out while recording. The zoom has to be set pre-record but it takes nice video. Good for an average user. I've never had a problem with the image stabilizer and am impressed with the amount of video/pictures I've been able to capture with just a 2GB SD card.

I've also dropped it a few times and everything still works good, so the construction quality is good in my book. The functions are really easy to get to too.

With all that being said, this camera has everything I need for a simple point and shoot camera. You can only get expensive professional cameras as the next step up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good camera, January 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The camera works very well. Setting up the computer connection is easy. Uploading is easy as well. I carried this camera around in my purse for days and did not have a problem with it. I would suggest getting a Memory Card to record pictures on if you want to take a lot of pictures. Between the memory on the camera and a 64mg I was able to take about 55 pictures in high resolution.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flawed image stabilizer, otherwise a great camera, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX10S 6.0MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) (Electronics)
I have used this camera for more than a year. I have owned Canon and Fuji (all point-and-shoot class). The indoor picture quality of this camera is very poor compared to Canon. The color is washed out and image is not as sharp. Occasionally I would get blurred pictures for no good reason, I am guessing that my hand wasn't still and it's hard to keep your hand still for such a small camera. The optical image stabilizer is a joke. I tested several shots at various shutter speeds and no flash to measure its performance and didn't find that it helps making the image shaper at all. I actually sent it back to Panasonic to see if the OIS was defective. They said they tuned up something. I re-tested and the results were the same.

Everything else about this camera is great. Very compact and sturdy. Battery lasted forever. Very quick on everything i.e. startup, viewing, auto focus, shot-to-shot, and flash recharge. The customer service was excellent. Video quality is very good, with pretty low noise on the low-light condition, much better than canon and others I have used.
