Experience Movies Like Never Before

The DMP-BD45 employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film.

Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players employ high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel.

Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p.

This Blu-ray Disc player also provides 1080/24p output, reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion--enabling you to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p-compatible TV.

It also plays non-blue ray discs which is nice.

The sound is crisp and clear, the picture ranging from poor quality to great quality original filming remains that way but with a high quality appearance.
Linda
I recommend this player for anyone just wanting to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

I don't typically write reviews of electronics, but I got this about a week or so ago and already watched a few movies on it and there were enough things that I liked about it (many that were not already mentioned) that I thought I would in this case. Most importantly, it is lightning fast compared to my previous blu-ray player (my old one seemed to take forever before it was ready to load and play, this one is ready to load in 30 seconds or so, and ready to play just as fast). This is a major plus in my eyes. Second, the on/off button is on the top right, and the open/close button is on the top left of the player (rather than on the front of the player -- this is very handy because you can see and press both very easily... not a huge deal, but I really like it and it makes it noticeably easier to use, so I thought I'd mention it). Third, it is very light and easy to hook up (unfortunately, it does NOT come with the HDMI cable -- but you can get one of those for less than $10; and it does come with the standard red/white/yellow wires so you can at least hook it up until your HDMI cable arrives). Finally, blu-ray disks look amazing on it (at least on my HD TV), and it also plays standard DVDs which look at least as good as the would on a non-blu-ray DVD player (so, if you have lots of regular DVDs, you can still watch them without losing any quality). Finally, the remote is easier to use then the one I got with my other blu-ray player (big and easy to find play, search backwards, search forward, stop, and pause buttons... the open/close butto is a bit small, but still pretty easy to find, and the power button is in the upper left as usual making it very easy to find/use). All for a very reasonably low price on Amazon.Read more ›

This is my first Blu-Ray player. I wanted a new model (2010) but was not interested in the BD Live features. This deck has the legendary Panasonic image processor (the same as in the expensive, top of the line models) but at a very low price. Speed is not quite as fast as advertised but better than earlier models. A great deck for anyone who doesn't need BD-Live features.

Like the first reviewer, this is my first Blu-Ray player. I wanted a quality, no-frills model and I don't need or want internet conectivity at this time. So far, this Blu-Ray player has worked beautifully. I don't know how fast (or slow) other Blu-ray players are, but the Panasonic seems just as speedy (or slow depending on your point of view) as my (current model) Sony DVD player. As long as this unit lasts and doesn't give me any trouble down the road, I'm very happy with the purchase.

I went from a Panasonic DVD player which was stunning visual to this Panasonic Blu-ray which sharpened the stunning. The sound is crisp and clear, the picture ranging from poor quality to great quality original filming remains that way but with a high quality appearance. New Blu-ray viewing is stunning. Older good quality movies such as earliest Disney movies that are not Blu-ray are sharp with deeper colors and great sound. Movies that I had taped then transferred to DVD play beautifully, again depending on the original quality.

I Had no interest in a wi-fi blu-ray player.. & after doing extensive research & reading reviews, This is the one to get, It lives up to the spectacular reviews too.. easy to set up and use, open / close button on the top of the unit is a nice feature too (top right front to be specific, if you stack your units you'll be able to access)..& the Remote (never thought I'd write about a remote) the layout of the remote is perfect all the right buttons where they should be.. thank you Panasonic & Amazon (price & delivery).. great product.. best blu-ray / dvd player I've used and I've used a few of them. LG, Sony, Samsung, Denon, to name a few..

The remote feels nice, and the player does what it is supposed to do. Playback of AVCHD on memory cards is a nice touch for anyone with a camera that records in that format. For a budget product, this does seem to perform well, and I haven't had any major issues with playback of any supported media. Thumbs up.

The blu-ray player does not seem as fast as the ads would have us believe, but it is fast enough. It plays blu-ray disks beautifully. It also plays ordinary DVD disks beautifully. I believe the excellence with ordinary DVDs is due to playing them progressive not interlaced, but I am uncertain. The excellence is sufficient where I have canceled asking for blu-ray disks from netflix. Ordinary disks are good enough.

In most cases it is premature to review any hardware item with such short and limited usage. However, it may be useful to others to know that my initial setup and usage of the DMP-BD45 was flawless. I merely took it out of the box and plug it into a HDMI cable connected to a Sony Bravia 52" TV. I would have liked to give this product a 5 star rating, but would like to use it for six months just in case something shows up that would warrant something else. I wish all electronic products were this easy to get up and running.
