4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value for the price
I got this DVD changer couple of weeks back and am quite impressed with the superior performance and sleek design. The picture and sound quality is pretty good and it plays mp3 audio as well. The only drawback is the on-screen display and the remote which are not too intuitive and easy-to-use. It took me a while to figure out how to use the progressive scan output with my...

I bought this to replace my old 5-CD changer, and thought I'd get DVD as a bonus. Unfortunately, its design as a multifunction device makes it a poor choice for playing CDs. A bad UI and frustrating useability finally caused me to return it.

* Too long to startup: you must wait through a 30+ second "boot up" cycle while it scans all discs, ignoring the Play button until a small cryptic indicator on the front panel indicates it's ready. Only then can you press Play.

* No auto-play: unlike my old CD changer, you cannot program it to start playing a CD at power up. You are forced to wait through the entire boot cycle in order to manually press the Play button.

* No automatic sequential disc play: after the boot sequence, you must press the dedicated Sequential play button on the front panel - you cannot set Sequential play from the remote!

* No "Disc Skip" button on the remote: you must know which disk is currently playing, and specifically select the next one.

* Remote is too small, too many buttons, clearly DVD-centric

On the plus side, the CD audio quality was good, and the picture out of the S-video port was great, although on the 3 DVDs I rented there were always some sections on the "Extra Features" tracks that glitched during playback.

In short, I could only recommend this product if you don't have enough room for 2 dedicated devices and need multifunctionality - otherwise, take the same $...and buy a...DVD and a...CD changer.

It took me a while to figure out how to use the progressive scan output with my HDTV - also, the on-screen menu displays cannot be easily manipulated without reading the manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one has the Sage/Faroudja chip too, December 27, 2002

I was shopping for the Panasonic DVD RP-62 player because it has the Sage/Faroudja video chip and then I saw this changer with a $30 rebate (until 31 March, 2003). With the rebate, the RP-67 is currently less expensive than the RP-62. So I thought to myself, "What is the chance Panasonic designed and builds a different video board for this player?" Being an engineer, I realized the answer was "Slim to none." I ordered this player with the idea that I'd return it if it didn't have the FLI2200 chip. After taking the player apart, (Note to Panasonic: I didn't really open up my player; why would I do a silly thing like that and void my warranty?) I found the Sage/Faroudja FLI2200 chipset on the underside of the video board. Just like the RP-62, you won't find any indication on the box, brochures or player that they use the FLI2200 chip, but they both use it.

As far as video quality goes, AT THIS TIME the RP-67 has to be the best value in DVD players. Buy it before the rebate ends on 31 March, 2003. Of course, in a year this player will probably be obsolete, but that is just the nature of electronics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ho7 help, January 21, 2005

I know how to fix ho7! Unplugg the player take off the 7 screws 2 sides 3 back. Find the part were the laser is take off cover 2 screws then you should see the laser and the thing that spins the disks spray the under the thing that the disk sits on, the metal part that spins the disk with wd40 then put it back together and it should work like new!! An Easy fix. If the directons are not good enough go to yahoo and search ho7 error in the first few hits there will be a site with pics and more info. I hope this helps.

If you still have a unit that has experienced the H07 death message, call Panasonic Executive Customer Relations at 201-392-6870. Politely but firmly ask them what they are doing about this widespread problem, and tell them you would like them to fix your unit at no charge.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY PANASONIC!!!, February 16, 2004
This review is from: Panasonic DVD-CP67K 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
Aside from the annoying load times and the fact that it broke after the first 9 months, this was a pretty good DVD player otherwise.
I got this player as a gift to replace a vintage player from the late 1990's. In contrast it was a pretty bad move, while my old player would load a disc in no time flat, the Panasonic would take about 30-45 seconds to read the disc BEFORE it began playing.
It was something I could live with, but I wouldn;t have to for long. After about 9 months the thing started showing error H07. BLAST. I started to Google and came to realize I was not the only person with this problem.
I contacted Panasonic via Email, they informed me that I would have to ship my player away and would be charger labor to repair the player.
Seeing mixed results on the web, and with a hefty price tag of approx.85-100 for the repair I decided against it, and pulled my old payer out of the closet.
I WILL NEVER BUY PANASONIC ANYTHING ever again.

1.0 out of 5 stars average changer, but it will die, January 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic DVD-CP67K 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
this changer died a month out of warranty. it displays a "H07" error code which Panasonic says will cost $85 to repair. I can choose from dozens of single-disc players with the same or more features than this unit. google for "panasonic dvd-cp67 h07" and you'll get lots of hits. mine's going in the trash. avoid Panasonic DVD players. I have a Panasonic TV set that works fine, but their DVD players are worthless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a DVD Audio player, September 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic DVD-CP67K 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
Contrary to Amazon's listing, this is not a DVD-Audio player. Yes, it will play DVD-Audio discs, (as ANY DVD-Video player can), but it does not have the high-resolution DAC's and 6 component outputs that are required for it to qualify as a DVD Audio player.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best DVD around!, February 6, 2003

This is the third DVD player I've owned. The previous two were both Toshiba, which was a big disappointment. The two main reasons why I like this DVD player is that 1) it is able to play MP3s on a CD randomly (thank God!), and 2) it can play DVD-RW v.01 discs! I created some homemade DVD videos through my PC and recorded them on a DVD-RW v.01 disc, and the unit played it! What a great deal! The unit also produces awesome pictures on my TV. The pictures are so clear. I've not tried the unit's progressive scan option yet since I don't own an HDTV. This is the best DVD player around for its price plus the rebate. Great job, PANASONIC!

5.0 out of 5 stars No buyer's remorse! Great unit, excellent price., December 24, 2002
This review is from: Panasonic DVD-CP67K 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
This unit replaced an older Panasonic DVD player, and the brand name influenced my decision to purchase this model. I had also read a good review on a similar model by Panasonic and decided to take the plunge when the price dropped below $150. To summarize, the colors are fantastic, and the unit played all the discs I tried (mp3, VCD, CDR, etc). Also, the remote control does indeed have small buttons, but it really doesn't bother me at all. The only complaint I have is that the model cannot determine the type of disc (i.e., DVD, VCD, etc) in the tray position until it actually plays it. Also, there's no way to tell which DVD is in which position (which may be a common complaint for all multi-disc DVD players). But, when all is said and done, I have no regrets!
