5.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic Rocks!! Excellent Wireless Headphones, July 30, 2005

For those of you looking for a set of wireless headphones, I would highly recommend these. Before puchasing these, I had bought a couple of other sets from Sony and Senneheiser. However, these were both with the 900 MGHZ functionality. I found the Senneheiser to be far better than the Sony but each still gave off a low hiss. In addition, you could not control the volume on the TV seperately from the headphones. Thus, when you turned down the volume on the TV the volume on the headphones went down accordingly. This was not why I was buying a set of headphones. So, both went back.

I then decided to go with an infra red type due to feedback I had read from some other users about similar problems they had with the 900 MGHZ headphones. My decision came down to either this set or the wireless infrared set from Sony (MDR-DS3000). I decided on these due to my bad look with the first set of Sony's I bought. I can definitely say that I am very satisfied with the Panasonics. The sound quality is excellent with not a peep of hiss. There is a switch on the base which allows you to listen in one of three different sounds expereinces - music, cinema, and voice. If you have equipment that allows digital hook-up, then you can take advantage of the digital input option. What I like best about these headphone is the fact that they are extremly comfortable. Well worth the extra money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely no hiss, January 10, 2006

These headphones are amazing. There is absolutely no hiss. They also automatically turn on when you wear them, which is really cool and very handy. They are also light.

I have only two complaints, but they don't detract from my 5-star rating. One, the cushion is too small for my ears, so after about an hour or two it does get a little uncomfortable. Two, the box has a picture of two people, both wearing headphones and using one transmitter. However, this configuration is not really supported by Panasonic, because you can't buy just another pair of headphones. It would really nice if Panasonic would sell another headphone and a recharging station at a lower price, but they don't.

UPDATE: J&R occasionally has these headphones in stock, although they have been replaced by the RP-WF6000. I bought another pair anyway, and I'm happy to say that the new ones are identical to the old ones. That is, both headphones pick up the IR signal from one base station.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hissless headphones, August 12, 2006
This review is from: Panasonic Digital Wireless Headphones RP-WH5000S (Electronics)
I bought those headphones based on two things: I did not wanted RF phones because I did not like high EM radiation level when head is close to the transmitter and because this model does not have any hiss. Those phones sounds terrific, especially when connected to optical digital input and 5.1 signal is sent to decoder. I disagree with previous reviewer about non-adequate low frequency reproduction; those phones have enough medium and low frequency responses that will hurt you ears if volume is loud enough. He/she might have a defective model. Make sure that signal input switch is set to `0' dec. because default is `-8' (to reduce very strong input signal). What I love about those phones is that you can hear very faint music or conversation in the background while somebody shoot a weapon in foreground. Very nice channels separation. Also, most IF (infra red) headphones have a hiss when IF signal is weak. This is an IF technology limitation. I tried Sony, they had it. Panasonic solved this problem: those headphones have no hiss at all and this is very important when watching a movie or listen to the music for several hours. Do not buy cheap 69 doll RadioShack phones, they won't be able reproduce high frequencies; better spend 200 doll. and get Panasonic. The only disadvantage I found is you should be very careful when putting phone back on the cradle; it takes some training to put them right on the recharging pins. And lastly, why buy DTS, Dolby digital decoding headphones to listen to the music from the cheap sound card of a laptop? You will only get a pseudo stereo though decoder. Those phones are designed to provide best sound quality with digital signals from DVD players and digital receivers. I connected mine with optical cable to the optical output of Sony digital receiver. Movies, such as "Lord of the ring" sounds life like real.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally....SILENT wireless headphones (as in no interference!), March 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic Digital Wireless Headphones RP-WH5000S (Electronics)
I've looked at a lot of wireless headphones and these are the only ones I've tried that I'm happy with! I really liked Sony's RF headphones - look good, cool induction charging ... but there is always that background hiss! If you listen to loud music that NEVER pauses, maybe you won't pick it up.. but forget about watching a movie or tv... any pause in the dialogue and the prevalent interference rattles your skull (ok, it's not that bad I guess.. two of my friends love their Sonys.. maybe they just can't pick it up!)
Anyway, I decided on infrared because of the lack of interference. I did a lot of research (cnet.com, amazon review, etc) and chose these and am very satisfied. The only problem I perceive so far is that the headphones don't have exactly outstanding bass. I guess this is a near impossibility though in wireless unless you drop half a grand. So I'm happy, use them just about every day!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my home, January 14, 2009

We bought these head phones to keep piece in the family. In addition, we have numerous wireless devices that break if they share electronic frequencies. For example our wireless weather station vs our wireless router vs our broadband microwave connection vs our old wireless head phones. These headphones where the only ones that operated in the 900 mhz range and would not interfere with our other critical devices.
As far as the functionality goes, the batteries have lasted a long time and we can run the phones all evening with out any problems. It has 3 different types of tonal settings and they work well for teevee. It was simple to set up and use. The only drawback, as mentioned by others, it the headset and cradle require a bit of extra care when placing them away. You have to consciously make sure the left head phone securely drops into the recharge clip. Line of sight can be a problem also. In other words the receiver and head phones communicate by infrared light, so if you are lounging backwards in a recliner watching Angelina Jolie strut around the teeve and then your dog or cat decides to walk across your lap you might get some clipped dialogue and musical cut out (I guess the solution is to not be a slug and to keep the pets in control).

But that is my only quibble, worth thinking about if you have smaller tykes or like to lounge and have pets. Over all quite happy with them.

I believe I was the LAST person to get ahold of these fantastic headphones, and I can thank my lucky stars because they were worth every cent that I paid for them.....got them for $159.00 and $13.00 Shipping and Handling and they were delievered to my steps in four (4) days and were packaged unbelievable to guarnatee that they got to me in great shape......Pat on the back to the Outlet store of Amazon.com, they did a wonderful job and I would recommend using them to anyone in the future!

This pair of Pansonic Digital Wireless Headphones are just the ticket. They have been a God Send so far, I have a tremendous hearing lose from working @ the St. Louis Newspaper and these headphones let met actually hear what OTHERS hear ALL the time.

I have used them for over 3 hours watching a DVD movie and I have to stay they are pretty confortable and allow you to enjoy a movie and understand all the talking and you can hear just about every little pin drop that occurs during the movie.

I read were some people were having some trouble putting the headsets on the charger with some difficulty, well I did the first time, but it just takes a little practice and patients and you will get the hang of it.

My son helped set it up and it only took him 5 minutes to connect it to the T.V. (he was a little concerned that I might NOT get any audio from my DVD/VHS recorder, but it works like a CHAMP).

The charge time seems to be extremely long, longer then the newer model that Panasonic came out to replace this model. I tell you what, IF you can get a hold of a pair of these Headphones, you will be much more satisfied (I've read some of the reviews of the newer model, and they don't come even CLOSE to the reviews I've seen on these).

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding headset, August 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

My husband wears hearing aids and I wanted to replace his old RCA headset and chose this because of the good rateings. Only problem with this is every time he puts them on he has to remove his hearing aids. He also complains he still cannot hear, which I believe is his problem not the set. So good choice if you are thinking or a wireless headset for use with a TV.

I bought these headphones based on glowing reviews and a desire for a quality wireless set of headphones. I found these very disappointing. I have not set up the digital cable, but with my laptop headphone connection the sound has entirely too much treble with little to no bass. There's so much treble that it hurts your ears and makes you cringe, and the pads on the headphones hurt too after 30 minutes. Even adjusting the EQ and the different sound modes doesn't make these headphones sound any better, and having tried the $400 true surround Pioneer wireless headphones I'd rather go with those or a wired Bose because these heaphones are not what they're cracked up to be. If you don't like bass or depth in your sound, then these are for you. Otherwise, avoid like the plague and don't buy em.
