Best electric razor for the money,
By
This review is from: Panasonic ES8018K Pro Curve Men's Shaver Triple Blade with Linear Motor (Health and Beauty)
I bought this razor based on the recommendations from all the Amazon and [...] users, and they were right. It has a powerful and fast little motor that does a fabulous job. The shave is as close as I have ever received with an electric. It cuts without irritation and charges fairly quickly.
I would recommend this over other razors due to its price in comparison and its ease of use. Replacement parts are not cheap for this razor, but compared to Braun or the other ones out there it is about the same. Only thing I would note is that it is NOT a triple blade razor, but it does have three screens. The blades seem to overlap within the third screen, but it does not have three blades. That doesn't seem to make any difference though.

I've used this shaver for several years. Here's what I've found:
* It shaves well, closer than most others. Like any electric shaver, it requires multiple passes in various directions, while you check in the mirror, to do a complete job suitable for close observation. * It can apparently be used to shave in the shower. I haven't tried this. * As others point out, the trimmer is small and no match for a tough beard. Use a razor or a dedicated haircutting trimmer. * The battery's charge lasts a long time (maybe two weeks) for me. The battery itself has lasted for many, many recharge cycles. I believe the battery is internal and cannot be replaced (I replaced the permanent internal battery of another shaver, but I'm good with electrical repair). It is bad design to have to discard an entire appliance when its battery reaches the end of its life. * The high-frequency linear motor works very well, better than the usual 60 strokes per second. It is as loud as other shavers, but its pitch is very high. This is annoying to the user (imagine a giant mosquito flying right in your ear) but doesn't penetrate walls to disturb others as much as regular shavers. * It cleans easily. Just put a drop or two of detergent on the shaving screen, rub to distribute, put it under the water briefly, then turn it on. Aim it down into the sink. This will distribute the detergent. Then turn the water on again and let the shaver finish the job. Finally, remove the shaver head and rinse the head and the top of the shaver. Let dry then reassemble. It sounds hard, but it's not: it takes just seconds and removes all the hair and oil each time. If you prefer to use a small brush to clean the shaver, that's just as easy. Electric shavers are much faster and perhaps more comfortable than razors. This shaver is one of the best.

Great Shaver,

I bought this shaver to replace another Panasonic Linear shaver I had. I needed to replace the cutter heads and the foil but I found it cheaper to just buy another shaver that is better with new cutter, foil, battery, etc. I love Panasonic's linear motor. It does a great job cutting my beard. I also prefer this model because I can use the shaver with the cord in case the battery is discharged. My previous model charged the shaver without a cord but by induction but if the battery became discharged, I couldn't use the shaver until it was charged again. I just wish parts are more reasonably priced.

I have had this shaver since Christmas - all take a break in period. Very easy to hold and use.Very powerful, but, noisy motor. No razor burn and easy to clean. Definitely put together well. My previous was a Grundig which, no longer available, shaved closer and was much quieter. It also came with a stand which was a nice convenience so it doesn't jump out of the medicine cab in the morning when the door is opended.
If you want to shave in the shower this is not the one for you. But, otherwise it beats a three head Norelco by a mile. If it kicked out a bit less noise and came with a stand, some other Panasonic models do, I would have given it a 5. I expect that the closeness of the shave will improve in a bit more time.

This is a good shaver for a relatively new-to-electric-shavers guy like me. It does not match the closeness of a regular razor, but it's good enough. I was looking to save some time on shaving in the morning with this, but it turns out that it takes the same, if not more time, to shave with this thing than a normal razor. Of course, it gives me the convenience of taking it when on travel etc., so it's pretty neat. It washes off clean under running water afterwards, which is also a good feature.

This shaver is the cheapest Panasonic with a linear motor that I have seen. It is made in Japan, not in China. It has Nimh batteries, not the less efficient Nicad ones. It fully charges in one hour and the charge lasts more than twice as long as Panasonic Nicad shavers that I have previously used. The linear motor does a fabulous job. After using it for over a month, I am getting the best shaves I have ever gotten with an electric shaver. I've used many Panasonic, Braun, Norelco and Remington models over the past 50 years. You should note that this is not a Wet and Dry model. While you can safely wash the cutting heads, you should not use it in the shower. Of the three advertised blades, there are only two cutting blades with a cutter built into the foil for long hairs. I would characterize it as a double bladed shaver. Despite these reservations, this Panasonic model should perform extremely well on most beards. If you are not wedded to shaving in the shower, give this one a try.

Uninspiring,

Is it too much to ask to be inspired by $60 of plastic and wound copper? Is a particle of meaning, a brief glimpse into the immortal, too great a burden for a personal grooming device? I guess it is.
Still, I found myself disappointed by this completely adequate shaver. It lacked the strength, the drama, the (dare I say it?) "edginess" of my previous linear Panasonic shavers. It works fine, but if paying the additional $30 gets you the faster, louder, stronger, and slightly more frightening model, isn't it well worth it? I think so. |
