Eats husband's whiskers,

I bought the Panasonic ES8097A for my husband as a birthday present. He's an engineer-type gadget man who appreciates good design and functionality. In fact, he pretty much picked it out for himself and then hinted in a rather obvious manner. He is delighted by its pivotty head and seems to like the LED display. I've stolen it twice for my legs and thought it shaved pretty closely and it was very easy on contours. It's also got a nice weight--doesn't feel flimsy. It seems to be worth the price.

The end of expensive straight Blades,
By
This review is from: Panasonic ES8097A Pro-Curve Wet Dry Rechargeable Shaver for Men
I'm one of those guys who just hates shaving but because of my sales job I need to be clean shaven. For some time now I've been using the newer and expensive three blade straight razors from gillette. Those razors don't come cheap and can be tough on your face. Over the years I have tried many electric razors in an effort to move away from the tradition straight razor. I have never been satisfied with those electrics ability to get a close shave and not leave a bunch of stray hairs on my neck. Finally I have found an electric which has surpassed my expectation. The only thing I think Panasonic could do to make the razor better is to find a way to get my facial hair stop growing. It's a tremendous razor!

I had a lesser model that just wouldn't charge any more so I purchased this one. In comparrison, they are exactly the same. The only difference is the digital front face and outside cover. The only negative reason that I couldn't rank it as a five is the price. Take my advise. This is one great product but is very pricey. Go for the more inexpensive floating head shaver. (The shape of all of their float heads are the same. It's the same product. Just different packaging. Get the cheaper one.)
I really had a difficut time trying to adjust back to a blade while I was waiting for this to arrive and it really made me realize how good this product is. By the way, I opened up the older one and found that there was some water that got in and probably was shorting the charging system. After drying it and letting it sit open for a day, she works just as good as before. Now I have a back-up.

This has to be one of the best shavers I used. Being a geek, all the extras doesn't hurt either. I bought 2 of these over 2 months (one for my friend) and they came in different packaging. One came with a Sharper Image fitted case, and they other just has a soft pouch.
The induction charger is great. Although it doesn't offer a huge advantage, the fact that it makes the unit completely sealed lends confidence that you are less likely to have electrical failures since this is a wet/dry. It did take me about 4 shaves to get my face adjusted to it. I switched from Norelco, and it did feel strange at the beginning and I couldn't get a clean shave. Unlike a 3-disk Norelco, you have to move this in the direction of the grooves. Sideway movements will only irritate your skin and get nothing done. The manual recommends shaving cream but make sure you get a thick one. I personally use gel and I have no problems whatsoever. Using it wet gets me almost as close of a shave as a razor. Using it dry is about on par with my Norelco shaver. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Best Shaver Out There,
By
This review is from: Panasonic ES8097A Pro-Curve Wet Dry Rechargeable Shaver for Men
This is the best Shaver on the market. I've tried the Norelco Smart Touch and a Remington model in the past. This one gets both your face and your neck (which the smart touch can't). It never pulls where the Smart Touch would if I skipped a day of shaving. It's just incredible. The only thing they're missing is a self-cleaner like the Norelco. Otherwise, there truly IS nothing to be improved upon. Read the past reviews and all I can think is the first go got a lemon. I've had 0 problems with mine. Love it.

Battery only holds one shave after 1.5 years and battery not replaceable,

I recently replaced this with a Philips/Norelco 7310XL, which was about half the price. The Panasonic's battery lasted only 1.5 years and that with using it only 3 to 4 times a week. The battery can not be easily replaced as far as I could determine (nor could I find a battery online to buy). Now, this unit holds a charge for only 1 shave and without a plug-in back up, I'm stuck using my manual razor if I run long. Going forward, I will not buy another induction based charging system, due to this problem.
The unit is also noisier than the the new Philips model with the 3 circular blade system. The shave was fairly close for me, but the Philips is just a touch better.

I mainly purchased this shaver for being able to use during the showering.
It is great that you can get this wet and soaked for shaving and for cleaning. However, shaving quality is OK at best. It does not give you a real close shave that you have give a few passes. My older Braun give better close shaving then this. This is a OK shaver if you want to use it during showering but you will need to use a mirror to check if everything is shaved properly.

Good shave for 6 months,

Zero stars would be better.
I have now had two of these in the past 18 months. Both motors died; number one after 6 months, number 2 after 11 months. When I asked the repair shop about them they said they were not worth fixing. They did, however, work great when they were oprerational. Sadly, I paid much more for my two than this is going for. I also saw on Amazon a refurbished version. Guys, these are cheap for a reason. They have been refurbished for a reason. I am now without a shavor and, if you can imagine, considering another Panasonic, as the model I had before this debacle was good. Pay a little more and get a different model. Panasonics do shave close and well, but I think this model has a major defect, hence the discount bin. |
