After going through a couple of medium priced off the shelf drills that either locked up or were too heavy to use comfortably in a days work this one proved to go the distance! Lightweight, very quiet, easy to use, and super powerful! One year old and going strong! BEST DRILL EVER!

I bought this unit a few weeks ago and am very satisfied with it. But this is my first cordless drill, and I've used it only for relatively light-duty projects around the house, so take my comments with those caveats in mind.

I've found the weight, torque, and comfort in the hand are all excellent for me. Some people I've shown it to have commented on the whine it makes, but but I don't think it's any noisier than other drills, just different sounding.

I took off one star because the trigger doesn't give a continuous range of speeds. It starts well at slow speeds, but tends to "kick over" to a very high speed with no transition as the trigger is pulled back. This happens in both the Low and High switch settings. That can be disconcerting.

Things missing that some (other) users might care about: No built-in level; no place to store screws/bits, etc. on the base. Good feature some other units don't have: stands up nicely on its handle. Good universal charger, and I like the NiMH batteries for ecological reasons if nothing else. There is a unit with 3.5 AH batteries, but I got this one with the smaller batteries because I figured the lighter weight was more important than the presumably longer work time between charges for my uses. The chuck is very easy to use, and looks like it runs true to me. Instruction manual tells nothing, but what didn't you know about what it does?

I'm an electrician and i can tell you out of all the cordless drills we have and had this one is by far the best. It's perfect for me light weight, very powerful, and the battery lasts forever. It beats the Dewalt and makita 14.4 V cordless drills in every department as i own these drills also. My company will in the future buy a few more of these to replace the others since we all fight to get the Panasonic.

I've been using cordless drills since they first came out 25yrs ago. I've had 7.6 volt skill, 9 volt B&D, 12 volt skill, 12 volt bosch, 14.4 Riobi, 14.4 DeWalt and 18 volt Bosch and the 12 volt Panasonic is the best. It's light and the batteries hold a charge longer then any other. I use my drills all day everyday and I have to change from driving screw to drilling holes and this drill works and it doesn't wear out you arm. What more could you want. Yeah it cost more but you get what you pay for.

Just bought my second one. I have no need for anything more than 12 volts with this torque monster. It's light, well balanced, and I use it daily outside in the rain and dirt. (Fence contractor) An electrician friend of mine turned me onto Panasonic drills 3 years ago, and I won't consider another Dewalt. I'd give it 5, but nothings ever perfect. Great tool, great case.

I have drills from Dewalt, Freud, Makita, Ryobi and Panasonic in my wood working shop. I have from 9.6 volt to 18 volt and the 12-volt panasonic is the preferred drill I use all the time. The clutch is great, It has good power for dilling and screwing. The batteries seem to have good charge life. I have used the drill for about 2-years now and its still going strong. I just ordered the new digital impact driver and another 12v to replace two of my other drills that are newer. I would highly recommend their drills to anyone.

PS My brother also runs a full-time woodworking shop and he also is using panasonic drills.

They are the absolute best cordless drills on the market!

I'm an Army retiree and now a small-time farmer, woodworker and household improvement guy and I've owned or used most all kinds of cordless drills. I needed another one and wanted a light, powerful 12-volt drill. After doing all the comparisons on Amazon, the Panasonic came out on top with the tie-breakers being it's compact size and the 1/2" chuck. I really liked the compactness of the Makita 12-volt driver I have and wanted a stubby, powerful drill to match it. I also liked the 1/2" chuck option--using my old 3/4" chuck Black & Decker is hard work and limited by an electric cord. I've had the Panasonic 12-volt for about 8-months now and have used it for all kinds of wood and metal drilling tasks with metal and wood bits from #60 to 1/2". It centers and holds them all and holds tight enough to etch the chuck end of the bit on larger bits. Like that old 3/4" inch Black & Decker or other powerful corded and cordless drills, this little 12-volt Panasonic has the power to make you hold on with both hands if you're drilling into thick metal or thick wood using larger bits; it'll twist out of one hand rather than bind or have the bit slip (unless you're unusually strong with big hands!). The drill first starts at 50-RPM whereas other ones will start at just above 0-RPM, but I have had no problems with small bits breaking off at the start RPM of the Panasonic, in metal or hardwood. I buy professional-grade tools and expect them to do the jobs they were intended to do forever and without babying them along and with zero performance or maintenance problems. This Panasonic does that for sure and I expect it to do so for a long, long time.

i am a union carpenter and need to use the best.of all the different brands of drills i have used,the panasonic is by far the best.i use this drill approx. 7-8 hours per day and only need to charge 1 battery per day.

I have this drill for almost 3 years and I do remodeling for living. This is my only cordless gun I have now and it is enough. Battery charging is fast enough and it can hold and or last very very long in compare to any other NiMH drills we used before. Feels pretty good, not heavy and have enough power to drill. My frined got himself the 15.6V version and we both like the 12V better. Same power, last same time but mine is lighter:)
