This has been an outstanding drill for the last several years. GREAT balance, light weight, plenty of power, excessive run time, and a quick charge.

The NiMH batteries are resistant to the battery "memory" effect that causes NiCAD batteries to prematurely fail if not completely discharged. My suggestion is to go for the model with the the 3.5 AH batteries, as they will theoretically last 17% longer than the 3.0 AH batteries.

My only complaint is the weird LED "blinky" code that the charger displays while charging. I never quite know if it is done charging. The manual is not quite clear about how this code works, so I just let it charge a little longer than suggested.

I have owned this drill/driver for over 5 years now and it still performs just like the day I bought it. And what's more impressive is that I still have my original batteries and they just keep on trucking. I also have the Bosch 18 volt combo kit which is great stuff, but the Bosch just does not compare to this 15.6v wonder. My son wanted one so bad he mentioned it to his mother (not my wife anymore), but when she found out the price, she settled on the Craftsman 18v thinking it was "just as good". Needless to say the Craftsman is NOT of this quality, so I ordered another Panasonic for my daughter-in-law to give to him for Xmas. He loves his just as much as I do mine and the afore-mentioned Craftsman dwells in a dark drawer somewhere never to see light of day again. Pricey?..Yes, but worth every penny.

I have used many cordless drills, but this is the best so far. I started with the 12 volt model but returned and exchanged for the 15.6 volt and am glad I did. A little more oomph. Great 1/2" chuck, solid batteries, good balance, wide range of clutch adjustments, has been rugged so far. At a wood shop where I do some work the owner saw this and soon changed out his shop drills to this model.

NiMH batteries are a great improvement over NiCads, but don't seem to perform as well in cold weather as in hot weather. But with two batteries and the good charger that comes with it, it's not a problem. I can charge the second battery in less time than it takes to deplete the one in use.
