Designed to improve healthy conditions in the home, this air purifier from Panasonic tracks dust, pollen, and smoke while trapping particulates and odors with a dual-filter system. The unit is constructed with a straightforward control panel for simple operation and monitoring. Sized for rooms up to 12 by 18 feet, it uses a HEPA filter to capture 99.97 percent of airborne particles and a deodorizing filter to eliminate unpleasant odors. The three standard fan speeds are supplemented by a "super" setting for times when there is a high need for speedy purification. An automatic setting operates in conjunction with the unit's Micro Dust Sensor to select an appropriate speed based on the level of particles passing through the sensor. Illuminated lights show which settings are in operation at any given time.
Slim and trim for easy placement, the purifier is constructed to be quiet in use. It includes a filter check system to signal when filters need changing, and a constant air-quality gauge to show how much filtration is occurring. The air intake grille is removable for easy cleaning, and the housing wipes down easily. Both filters are easy to replace. Panasonic estimates that the HEPA filter will provide about 3 years of use, while the deodorizing filter will last about a year on average. I have several different air purifiers, by Bionaire, Whirlpool and Panasonic. The Bionaires (I have two) have been excellent but according to Amazon users, Bionaire is recently having reliability trouble with that model (# 1175). Thus, when it came time to buy another purifier, I chose this Panasonic for a small room (about 200 sq. ft) and the large Whirlpool for our MBR (400 sq. ft.). We've been using the Panasonic for about a month, now. The design is excellent. It's reasonable attractive, convenient, quiet and effective. I particularly like the form factor (comparatively thin). An LED display shows a red/green bar graph of the amount of particulate matter in the air, as measured by a sensor in the unit. This feature has been educational, as well as somewhat entertaining (okay, I'm easily amused). For example, if I pick a book off a shelf and the display turns more red, I know it's probably time to dust the bookshelves. Bottom line: It's only been a month but, so far, I'm a happy customer.

I have purchased or/am using most every air purifier made (under $300). Having been poisoned by a new home, built defective/mold, I am now MCS/EI. So I'm very sensetive to oders (chemical & organic) mold, dust, etc. This Panasonic is truely an automatic unit (on/off & variable speed) with a sensative air quality monitor. Good constuction/function switch and trim design (depth) allow for use most anywhere. This unit is quiet enough for use in the bedroom. The only downside to this unit is the oder ad-sorbing charcoal is built into the backside of filter element, some makers use this method. I prefer to have a removable charcoal mat in front of filter element for easy cleaning/removal ... I did add a charcoal mat to front of this element. I vacuum all my units, the charcoal mat and front of filter element, once a week in order to maintain longevity.

I have three parrots in a room, and this unit is exactly what I was looking for. I used a large Honeywell HEPA air filter in the past, but that was quite a bit louder and eventually burned out. I especially like the automatic air sensor feature on the Panasonic, which cycles the unit on and off depending on the amount of dust in the air. This feature actually works, since I can see the air rating lights change from green to red when I go into the room and move things around (stirring up dust). I'm considering buying another one for my bedroom.
