From the Manufacturer

Panasonic's WhisperFit series is designed to fit 2- by 6-Inch joists or larger, this low-profile fan doesn't sacrifice performance for size. An optional 3-Inch duct adaptor is also included for those areas where a smaller duct is necessary. The Panasonic FV-11VF2 WhisperFit 110 CFM fan has a totally enclosed condenser motor and a large, double suction blower wheel to quietly move air. The blower wheel is designed to draw air in from both sides allowing more area for the air to enter the wheel. Panasonic fans are quiet enough that you might not even know they're on. With a 10.5 sone level and rated 110 cubic feet per minute, this fan is designed to give you continuous, trouble-free operation for many years due to its high-quality components and permanently lubricated motors which wear at a slower pace. We designed the electrical configuration of this model's condenser motor to allow it to operate at lower temperatures, increasing the life of the motor and bearings. And, the fan housing is made of heavy-gauge zinc galvanized steel and painted to protect it from rust. This Energy Star qualified fan has a built-in damper to prevent back draft, which helps to prevent outside air from coming through the fan. The Panasonic FV-11VF2 WhisperFit 110 CFM Low Profile Ceiling Mounted Fan is covered by a manufacturer warranty for period of three years from the date of the original purchase and is sold one item per package.

Just finished installing the 110 CFM model and thought I'd say a few words about how it went. First of all, this was installed in a bathroom, in order to replace another model that had failed. There is no access from above, so everything had to be done from below. A few others have noted that they completed the installation from below by removing "thumb screws" that hold the motor to the housing. This may have been the case with earlier models, but the thumb screws are no longer found on these. You need an extra long screwdriver to remove screws that attach the motor assembly to the housing, not a big problem, but I just wanted to point it out. Further, the instructions clearly say that this model cannot be installed without attic access. Well, it can...not easily..but it can be done. I had to remove the vent pipe assembly from the housing (if you are keeping track, I now had three separate pieces: housing, motor assembly, vent assembly)and reach through the hole and wire the vent assembly (which also contains the electrical assembly)as well as attach the vent hose. Not a big deal. I then mounted the vent assembly to the side of the hole, using the flange at the bottom. I then slid the housing onto it, screwed the flange to the ceiling, and then slid the motor unit into the housing. A couple of words about how quiet this is...you'll see some reviewers say that it is "silent" and they could not tell it was running. While I cannot speak for lower CFM models, I can tell you that this is far from silent. It is hooked toa 4" hose, so that shouldn't be causing restriction and any increase in sound. Nevertheless, it is not TOO loud, and many times quiter than the Broan that I had, so I am not complaining at all, just pointing out that if you think that you won't hear it, then buyer beware.Read more ›

I gave this fan 5 stars because this was my first time as a do-it-yourself-er installing a bathroom exhaust fan and I found it to be very useful that this fan has a detachable vent / electrical mount bracket. I did not have access to the attic, I live in a small condo on the ground floor with another condo above me. I have approximately 8 inches of space between my ceiling and the floor of the condo above. I had 16 inch center width between my joists. The detachable vent / electrical mount bracket has a place to slide in an extension arm which extends to the joist for securing with screws. The shroud which contains the fan can then be snapped into the mounting bracket and secured to the ceiling. The fan shroud has a lip around the edge with mounting holes to secure to the ceiling with screws. There was another channel on the opposite side of the fan to slide in an opposing adjustable mounting bracket but I removed this and instead chose to mount a 2x4 on the opposing side between the joists so I would have a more secure place to mount to and make the fan more secure. Also, I could not have used the opposing bracket since I had no access to the attic and it can only be secured once the fan shroud is placed in the ceiling hole.

I found a video on Panasonic's website which was very helpful and gave me an idea before I started on how best to mount the fan. My old fan was much smaller so I needed to cut the hole in the ceiling bigger. The Panasonic came with a cardboard template which was the same size as the fan shroud. I used this cardboard template to trace the lines on the ceiling to make my hole bigger. Worked perfect.

The entire job took about three hours but I could do it again in about an hour.

Excellent ventilation, very quiet & fits 3" or 4" duct. Fairly easy to install as a replacement unit with minor mounting modifications.

I purchased the WhisperFit FV-11VF2 (110 CFM) to replace a builder grade Broan-NuTone 671R (90 CFM). The original fan was 4 sones - quite loud - which prompted the change.

I live in a recently built townhouse with concrete block construction, so I assumed the attic space was minimal or non-existent, considering the concrete roof and lack of attic access. Unknown until the old fan was removed, we had 39" of space above the ceiling, however, the sheetrock was suspended by sheet metal C-channel, held up by wire. The old fan was framed in by the same C-channel. After enlarging the opening to fit the new fan housing, I was able to snip off the screws holding this "framing" for the old fan. The traditional joist brackets provided with the fan were useless for my application. Discarded, I continued disassembling the fan for below-ceiling installation. The motor shroud was removed, then the motor/fan combo, the housing, then the duct attachment/j-box galvanized assembly.

Without joists to attach to, I screwed in 3/4" x 4" x 10" poplar strips around the perimeter of the opening, behind the drywall. This allowed me to screw the plastic fan housing into solid wood and not bare drywall. A few screw holes to fill in the ceiling, but it left me feeling more secure than relying on drywall to hold everything in place.

After the wiring was complete, the ductwork was attached and this assembly was set in place in the ceiling. The j-box is only 3/4" above the bottom lip of this piece, so no wood blocking was added due to lack of room. This piece "floats" and is not screwed to anything. The fan housing was installed next, with the duct/j-box assembly locking into place via a tab. The fan housing was screwed into the wood blocking, through the drywall, in six places.
