4.0 out of 5 stars The Original 3DO Multi-Player, February 5, 2006
By
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Panasonic FZ-1 3DO video game system with original box and manual!! (Video Game)
I Wish I could get my hands on one of these again! For those unfamilar with the 3DO, It was the first CD-based 32-bit system that used polygonal graphics, that luanched at $799.99 in some area's. Yes, while the world was having fun with thier Sega Genises and Super Nintendo's (Some had the Atari Jaguar that launced a year ealier, when still cartridge based and low quality "3-D" graphics) unbelievable graphics, sound, and games were on this system. Games like Bladeforce, which had the best graphics of any game until a full year into the Sega Saturn/Sony Playstation's life cycle. Madden, which featured crisp sounds, huge players (Rivaling that of the Xbox,PS2 of today) and for the first time of the series, video highlights of you favorite team. Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Arcade Perfect! And games like Need for Speed,Gex,Road Rash,Slam & Jam,Babalon 5, and other games that were later ported to the Saturn/Playstation but was never any good as far as Graphics, Sound, Presentation (the 3DO versions had video and extras that were lost in the saturn/Playstation ports). The 3DO also had some other cool features such as the ability to play Music CD's(the Lightshow/Screen saver was very cool), Video CD's (Movies on CD, not as clear or crisp as DVD, put some were alittle better or the same as VHS quality, some was horrid, so beware),and if the game supported, you could actually hook up unlimited controlers, via each controler had a slot at the top for an additional controler. The Negatives about the system is the controler itself, the "panasonic" controler was very cheaply built,so if you can pick up a 3DO, get a 3rd party manufactured controler. The second thing is that thier aren't as many games as the more popular Sega,Nintendo,Sony,Microsoft systems becuase the system meet it's early demise. At the time, 3DO signed on with both Panasonic and Goldstar to produce the console. By the time the price droped enough that most could afford it, the Sega saturn was already getting attition with it's arcade conversions and the Playstation was dazziling gamers with special effects that most haven't see before i.e. Lighting tricks, transparentcies, ect., That the 3DO lost all 3rd party support (to Playstation/Saturn) and of course the looming Nintendo 64. 3DO was working on the successor dubbed M2, but was never seen, 3D0 started being a 3rd party and making games like army men for other systems, until the companies demise. If you are a hardcore gamer this system is either in your gameroom or on your list. If your looking for something different for your gaming get this system and have a blast that you've never knew you could and own a peice of video gaming history.

This review is from: Panasonic FZ-1 3DO video game system with original box and manual!! (Video Game)
I remember playing this game when it first came out. I spent hours upon hours playing Road Rash with my sisters. I'm def. looking into getting another one and building the game collection back up. You have to have one if your a serious gamer or collector.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have one of these rare systems., October 20, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Panasonic FZ-1 3DO video game system with original box and manual!! (Video Game)
This system is awesome. I was really dissapointed when this didn't do well because of pricing & when it got lower, other items came on the market. I did extensive review at the time on the 3do before I purchased it and it was the best. Unfortunately the best things don't always stick around or be widespread as other items did for various reasons like pricing, competition (Sony & Nintendo are not easily beat by a 3rd party at that time. (now sony rootkits have permanently damaged Sony reputation though as of 2010.) This system had about 4 models that I have seen online & the games don't have copy protection such as they can be copied from a regular cd/dvd drive (not sure which one either cd/dvd) but there is no copy protection on the disk because at the time piracy was rare & the internet was still much slower than today. These days you could research & search for the games online & probably find them. I have about 25 games and plan on putting them online myself so I hope others will list there's as well so that the console and system can live on. I don't play my stem very often because I am afraid that if I do since they are rare, I may not be able to find another one though if it was to stop working. Anyways, this system has real life video graphics and most games had some video in the game such as need for speed, way of the warrior, mad dog mcree & others. I plan on purchasing another one of these systems so I will have 2 just in case and in the future getting all of the games for this wonderful system.
