After a year of having this device I still use it as my primary video recorder. I have found some quirks that are very easy to get around or deal with.

1: Sometimes the focus will not focus on the subject. This is hard to notice so I now have a habit of zooming in and out when I start recording. This seems to correct the issue.
2: When stopping recording the actual recording is cut off a little earlier than when the button was pushed. I now tend to let it record a little longer than I need to make sure it the video is not cut off.
3: Cant even count the times I have dropped it. Still works just fine.

I did a ton of research when looking for a video recorder like this. I was tired of using phones to record video and getting inconstant results. Out of the box I was very pleased. It was big enough to hold on to but no so big my arm would get tired holding it. The interface and screen is nice but has a issues (below).

The "Pistol" grip made it easy to hold.
Records great video in varied conditions with little effort.
The "iA" function is one of the best things about the camera. Makes taking videos in any condition a breeze.
Shock resistance just plain works. Our camera was dropped onto concrete from a height of about 3 feet and it still works. We did have to shut it down because the focus was stuck. But beyond that.. worked just fine.

The menu system is just terrible and hard to navigate.
The controls are a bit strange and not very intuitive.
Hitting record/picture button when in the menus does nothing. It would be nice if it would exit the menus and start recoding without me having to exit manually.
Using the digital zoom is odd.

I bought this camera about 2 months ago. Unfortunatly, I still own a Sony Handycam HD which I still use and love. The Panasonic is about half the size and 1/3 the weight -- real plus values. The sensor on the Panasonic is VERY noisy in low light compared to the much older Sony. If the light is abundant, the Panasonic's images and video are quite good, but in low light the noise is intolerable -- I find I must switch back to the Sony in those circumstances. The Panasonic's images can yield 16M size but are not as good as the Sony's 10m images. My son has a cheap (apx $150) GE camera that yields bigger, cleaner (less noise) images than either. Go figure. I tried a slave flash (that's another story) and that may be the answer if you remember to allow for the pre-flash sync. I keep in mind that the Panasonic cost 1/5 what my Sony cost me new, that is is light and small, and (haven't tested it) water resistant. I know I'll use it a lot, with its serious noise problems remembered. The run time on a battery is about 45 min. You may want to get extra batteries. You'll get about 8 Hrs on a 64GB card.

In short: I like the camera. I just wish it was better.

I bought this camcorder on a last minute decision before going on my pacific island vacation and I love it! From out of the box, I immediately started playing with the camcorder since I already have the same batteries on my other camera.
Let me give some background info: I have several DSLR, SLR cameras (35mm), and a few point and shoot. Photography has been my hobby for the past 33 years. This is not my first underwater capable camera/camcorder.
1. The videos in all the setting are incredible, including the underwater video.
2. The picture resolution taken while the video is running may only be 3MP but its clear, sharp, and the color is fantastic.
3. The pictures are fantastic in all the setting (including IA and creative)
4. The controls and menu are so easy, I was surprise how user friendly they are. I even tried the controls underwater in a pool without goggles to see if I can do it. No problem on the controls but the screen is hard to read.
5. No problem aiming my shot at all, the swiveling screen keeps me on target all the time.
6. The indicated depth is great but I found out that this camera can go deeper, I will not do it again but it's good to know just in case you forget and go deeper while snorkeling.
1. The battery life is only 45 to 55 minutes depending on how you used the camcorder. (Get extra batteries and high capacity)
2. The screen should have a brighter mode in underwater setting, its a little dark. Above water in normal used the screen is just fine.
3. Get a floatation strap.
4. The charging time for the battery is too long in the camcorder (2 to 3 hours depends on the battery) get a fast charger.
5. No lens cover

See the update at the end.

First off - I see this on Amazon for WILDLY different prices. At $250 it is a dog; at $150, well, that's what this review is about.

I cannot help but compare it to the (now replaced, but apparently not significantly improved) Sony GW77, which took unbelievable videos comparable to a $10,000 professional movie camera but suffered from poor low-light stills and the unfortunate Sony marketing gimmick of claiming its still camera capability was larger (many, many times larger) than what it really is. I had a number of issues with the Sony, but the reason it went back was it had an actual bug that caused it to die in the middle of use. If not for that, I would have kept it because its performance was better in every way than the Panasonic WA03. It was also a good deal smaller.

But it was also FOUR TO FIVE TIMES the price!

The WA03 is certainly a good looking camera, and its pistol grip is very comfortable (much more so than the Sony, which while much smaller had to be held somewhat awkwardly, perhaps like you would hold a candle in front of you). I love that it is NOT a touchscreen, which is a major disadvantage of the Sony - in bright sunlight, or underwater, you can see these screens barely if at all, so having old-fashioned manual controls is the way to go. You can also assign four functions to external buttons, but bizarrely the camera's software restricts you as to what button can be assigned to what function (for me, being able to quickly switch to panorama and underwater modes would have been helpful on vacation). Speaking of which, it is very problematic in panorama mode - three out of four attempts failed with an error, and for God knows why, horizontal panoramas are only 720 pixels high.
