My husband and I bought this pencil sharpener about 10 years ago after getting tired of sharpening pencils by hand. We couldn't be more pleased with this product--it works perfectly! We love the sleek, vertical design, especiallyl how this allows you to insert your pencil at the top. The machine sharpens in seconds, and it stops automatically with the "auto-stop" feature, thus ensuring that your pencil won't be over-sharpened to the point of breakage. In fact, I've never had a recently sharpened point break off; this product truly sharpens the point to perfection. If you are a stickler for the perfectly sharpened pencil, look no further--this is your product! Highly recommended.

I tutor so I am sharpening pencils daily (about 10 a day). For the first 9 months or so, I loved this pencil sharpener. I loved the auto stop feature and the point on the pencil was perfect. However, lately the point is not as sharp and the pencil is being sharpened in a way that causes the lead to fall out. So time for a new pencil sharpener. If you are willing to replace annually, then you will be happy with this product. Related to getting the best results from any pencil sharpener, buy decent pencils--avoid Staples pencils--the lead constantly breaks off.

I love this sharpener, and it's the fourth type I have bought. I plan to buy several more before they become unavailable for some reason. I use colored pencil, watercolor pencils and graphite and the sharpener is the best I have ever used for any of these products. Only drawback is that the small cup has to be emptied often but that's just the downside of a sharpener that doesn't take up much space.

I bought this pencil sharpener based on the great reviews here. For the first several months, it worked wonderfully -- nice sharp point, quick sharpening, etc. However, all of a sudden, one day it just wouldn't work. The light came on (so it was obviously receiving power), but the motor wouldn't turn. I called Panasonic as it was still under warranty, and was told to send it to the service center. About 2 months later, I received a refurbished replacement. This sharpener again worked great for a while and then just quit. After calling and emailing Panasonic *numerous* times (always to transferred 3-4 times and be disconnected and repeated emails simply ignored), I was finally able to get a hold of someone. I was informed that because I had no paperwork other than the warranty that came with the refurbished sharpener (because I wasn't sent any), the warranty on the "new" one was only 90 days, which was passed because it had taken so long for me to actually get a hold of someone. They did offer to repair it for me for $25 plus the cost of shipping the thing twice. Needless to say, I declined. Both sharpeners were great for the limited time they lasted, but for sharpener that costs over $40, I would expect a great deal longer functionality. In addition, the customer service (or lack thereof) alone will dissuade me from ever buying a Panasonic product again. It's simply too much trouble and lack of actual customer service to risk buying a product of dubious quality.

I recieved this pencil sharpener for my birthday about 6 years ago and it is still running strong! It is relativly quiet and works very well when you just need to sharpen one pencil. It's one problem is that it fills up with shavings after aout 5 pencils.

Got mine today and put it through the test...sharpened over 100 color pencils one right after another, even semi mangled ones, to see if I could burn out the motor easily or make the red light stop working. Then I intentionally broke a few tips off into the sharpener to see if they would cause the motor to smoke, jam, or quit. After that I intentionally dropped it (hard) a couple times onto my carpeted floor from the height of my coffee table where I plan to keep it since I do my artwork while lounging on the sofa, to see if it would break, crack, or quit working. I intentionally kicked it off the coffee table twice, too, since I knew an accidental drop of that sort might happen as well from my inattentively placing my feet on the table while I work at my hobby.

Short of throwing it across the living room nothing seemed to keep this thing from doing its job. It passed every test. The front plastic cover, which houses the interior shavings, didn't even crack, come off, or break.
Its an electric pencil sharpener, and its a great one.

Kudos to Panasonic for also making it aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and to my living room decor.

This sharpener is perfect for my 4, 6, and 8 year-olds because you put the pencil into the top instead of the front. That means they can do it with one hand. If the opening is in the front, you have to hold the sharpener with one hand (to keep it from sliding across the table) while you push the pencil in with the other. That might seem like a minor thing, but it's much easier for a small child to reach up to the sharpener on the kitchen counter with one hand then to get both hands up there. It's actually easier for everyone to use.

The auto-off function is great. It doesn't break the lead like the past 5 sharpeners I've had (if you find that your pencil lead breaks or the tip falls out 5 minutes after you sharpened it, it's not the pencil's fault...it's the sharpener that's breaking it). And there really is plenty of room for shavings. It might seem like a lot of money for a pencil sharpener, but it's great to get one that really works well.

I am a calligrapher who likes and needs a sharp point on pencials. No sooner is the pencil in the sharpener than the red light goes on. You wonder how it could be so fast. Result: a VERY sharp point. I also appreciate being able to use the sharpener with just one hand. The sharpener remains stationary in use as the pencil enters from the top, not sliding across the work surface - as with other models where the pencil enters from the side.
Expensive, but well worth it.

This is the first pencil sharpener in my 10 year teaching career that has remained alive after a full year in my classroom. Kids are hard on sharpeners and I end up buying two or three every year. This panasonic is durable and works the same now as it did in September, sharpening 25-30 pencils a day! Genius!!!

We needed a sharpener that would not break the colored pencils everytime it shaprend them. This is it. This makes the pencil sharper than I have ever seen one, the longest point ever, and it does not break the pencil. Haven't had it long, but it appears great.
