In June of 2008 I installed the Panasonic TA-824 PBX telephone system in my home. The system includes 7 KX-T7731 phones along with seven other phones of various brands.
The system has performed quite well in the three plus years since it was placed in to service. Sound quality is excellent, and the speaker phone functions better than others that I have previously used. The system also has a selective call intercom, which can be configured to be hands free on the called extension end. My only complaint in regard to the actual Panasonic telephones relates to the fact that the LCD screen illumination cannot be turned off. The green glow of the screen was a problem in our bedrooms. I solved the problem by placing black tape over the screen.
As an aside, the KX-T7720 and the 7750 are system compatible phones without LCD screens.
I have added the optional expansion cards in order to have up to 24 extensions and 6 incoming (CO lines). Additionally, I have added the four location door box intercoms.
Currently, I have two incoming phone lines, one wired (POTS) landline and one cellular linked.
Panisonic tech support makes it almost impossible to contact them, for that reason alone, I give the otherwise outstanding phone system a rating of 3.
If you are a tech savvy individual, the 824 is very easy to install, configure, and expand, just don't expect any help from Panasonic, unless you are a dealer. That being said, I would advise you to avoid Panasonic when considering the purchase of a PBX system for your home or business.

Believe it or not, the primary reason I chose this phone system was for the lighted telephone keyboard feature. I was contemplating the purchase of a ViOP system, but could not find this option. This is a replacement of an earlier generation Panasonic phone system, so no wiring was need, which simplified the installation. However, more importantly, the ability to program the PBX with a computer was a major benefit. Most default settings work fine, and once you get the hang of it, customizing the functions of each phone makes using the system a pleasure.

PRIOR to purchasing this answering system, we had an IT person look over the manual. Nowhere in the manual does it say that it is not compatible with Windows 7 or Windows 8. This is an entry level system that is very good quality. However, its programming needs to be done in previous versions of windows. Programming it was not so simple, yet our IT person finally got it to work. ..........

The company I work for has been installing these for years and they have always done a good job and lasted a long time. The programming takes a little work if you want to modify how people use it but thats only because it has many great programming features. Panasonic seems to have a good hold on this technology with the hybrid phone system.

This is a fantastic product at the Amazon price. It is feature rich and has extensive documentation....4 manuals. I have replaced my old 1989 Panasonic KX-T16160 PBX which was also a terrific product. The PBXs are installed in my residence.

I just found that I can use my old Panasonic proprietary hand sets in the new system. They are the KX-T30825 models. I gave this a 4-star rating because I found that programming it was indeed "rocket science". While the manuals are very comprehensive, I find them hard to follow. I wasted 7 hours trying to get the "Console Software" installed on one of my desktop PCs and connecting the PC to the PBX using the USB port.

I finally gave up and tried using another desktop and it worked like a charm. The CD doesn't contain Win7 drivers so you have to search for them on the internet. Once working, the Console Software was great and a big improvement over programming via a proprietary instrument which I had to do with the old Panasonic PBX.

I bought 6 KX-T7730 instruments which are very nice but I could have saved some $$$ if I knew the old instruments worked with the new system. The old units, however, would not work as nice as the new 7730s. I only use one CO line now because of the ubiquitous cell phones so I probably could have gotten by without a new PBX but how can one beat the $161 price tag? Go for it. Highly recommended and shipped right as quoted.

Perhaps the reason I found the system hard to understand is that it is SO FEATURE RICH. Maybe it is over-featured for my residence but I just like techie electronics.

I use it at home as a personal PBX, you can create routings, menu systems and various tweaks.
Note that if you want voice mail boxes that you need to get the additional addon for it at least
with the one I got. I just have it routing as a final destination to a answering machine which is fine.
I've had it for probably a year now and it routes our phone calls. I like being able to set special ringing
patterns and things like that.

I have given Bell the heave ho and I use my existing phone wiring between four buildings as an intercom system. Having read the documentation, I know that I am using about 1% of what the KA-TA824 can do. However, using my existing wiring and phones makes for a really cheap and reliable intercom, where I can dial up whatever area I want from where ever I want.
Love it.
