Great cordless phone + walkie talkie solution!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
I wanted a cordless phone to replace a dead Panasonic KX-TG2650 (2.4 GHz cordless phone with speakerphone). In addition, I wanted a phone that has an answering machine built in. Finally, I wanted a cordless phone which offered good range.I narrowed down my choices by reading epinions.com, ranking of popular phones at amazon.com, and recommendations from cordlessphonesamerica.com. This model appeared to fit my bill. After a week of use, I'm convinced I made the right choice. Calls are clear, except when I turn on the microwave -- I hear a few clicks when that happens. But that's expected of cordless phones that operate on the 2.4GHz bandwidth. This model allows you to have conversations between handsets (walkie talkie feature :-)) In addition, you can transfer incoming phone calls from one handset to another, and conference into the conversation after the transfer, if needed. You may also page handsets from the base. The answering system feature is adequate for my needs, and is conveniently accessible from the handset. The speakerphone feature on the handset is an incredible convenience. I compared this with the KX-TG2730S. I liked the all black appearance of this phone, plus its NiMH batteries. The KX-TG2730S comes with NiCD batteries -- don't want the memory effect. Hope this helps you.

The Phone That Met All My Requirements,
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
The Panasonic KX-TG2385B with it's 3 cordless phones in one, digital answering machine, intercom, caller ID and handset speakerphone works so flawlessly that it met all my phone needs. It is very clear and does everything it was promised to do by the manufacturer. I previously owned a 900mhz panasonic and the experience I had with that encouraged me to buy this 2.4GHz and I more that love this phone and I recommend it highly to all you gadget lovers. Please read the instructions and follow it.

This review comes from a long-time Panasonic phone owner, and this new model keeps me faithful to the product line. My general impression is that Panasonic has sensed a consumer shift towards "cellular-as-primary-phone", and in order to stay competitive, they've crammed their new products chock full o' features. My favorite new feature, hands down, is the on-board speakerphone. With a small speaker built into the back of each handset, one button push turns either handset into a portable speakerphone. With full duplex action (no waiting for the other person to stop talking before you do) and microphone quality good enough to make the other party think you're holding the phone, it's a great feature. Disappointingly, Panasonic did away with the speed dial feature they've had for several generations (the "Auto" button) in lieu of a cell phone style, 30-number directory. The directory seems like an afterthought, with features that pale in comparison to most cell phones. In fact, for numbers called most often, dialing is slower than with previous generations' speed dial. If you ever experienced the annoying "drop out" that the 900MHz caller id models produced when caller id data was transmitted from the base to the handset--Panasonic has eliminated it in this model. Other general comments: the included second handset makes this phone a great value, especially if you're replacing two telephones. Each handset includes a standard 2.5mm headset connector, the same as most cell phones. The answering system is standard Panasonic, and can be operated remotely (and easily) from either handset.

Don't buy this phone (a seven-month update),

Don't buy this phone. Please disregard my post-purchase review of February 3. Calls are dropped randomly, without apparent reason (although this most often occurs when a second call comes in and the call-waiting signal is received). Handsets randomly complain that they are "too far from base" and will not turn on--even placing the handset directly on the base won't fix the problem (it just seems to start working again after a few minutes). I have missed many calls just trying to get a fully-charged handset to pick up when the "Talk" button is pressed.Battery life is terrible, charge time is lengthy. Another annoyance--when the answering machine picks up, the handsets' displays change to read "Line in Use". If you didn't get to the handset in time, you miss the caller ID info. Call quality is fine, and the speakerphone and headset jacks are nice, but everyone has those now. Expect a high level of frustration.

After thoroughly reviewing all cordless with answering machine, caller ID, speakerphone and extra handsets, this appeared to be the one covering all those bases with value in mind.Pros: TWO handsets included. This is NOT standard on most cordless systems. Both use NIMH batteries, NOT standard NiCAD (garbage) like on most units. You will most likely never have to replace the batteries, or not for many years. Quality and reliability of overall phone appears to be good, unlike Uniden. My parents own this same phone, and have for two years. No problems, they love it. Speakerphone on each of the handsets is excellent. People I call can barely make out that I'm on a handset speakerphone. Being a portable speakerphone is actually more convenient than one built into the base unit. Sound quality is good, volume adjustment is good. Answering machine is decent, but sound quality out of the speaker on base could be stronger and clearer. However, it passes well enough. Configuration of the buttons on base unit is not too uniform, but you do adjust quickly. Cons: I don't think the phones earpiece is comfortable enough. I compared my old 900 mhz this new one and the old was far more comfortable. Why fool around with new design that feels awkward. I really have to move it around to find "the comfort zone." I find myself using the speakerphone often, although my wife, mom and dad have not complained about it. Could be me. Speed dial is lousy-- in other words, there really isn't one. Sure, you can page down the list of numbers and then hit "talk" to dial it, but if your personal directory is huge, it's painful and waste of time. Not enough ringer tones (only 6 --and 5 of them are completely obnoxious) Each unit requires your directory phone numbers to be MANUALLY plugged in! EACH ONE INDEPENDENTLY. No wireless communication between each handset. Again, see what I mean about a huge directory and how tedious it rapidly becomes when setting up the unit? ARGH!! Your products are getting harder to use, Panasonic. Each unit needs it's Caller ID log cleared seperately. If you get a call and then clear the ID on one phone, you must go and clear the other as well. Again.....ARGH! Would I buy this phone again? Hmmm...probably not. But I won't return it due to the con's. If you can ignore only a few of the negatives, this may be a decent phone for you.

Best Cordless I ever got,
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
... this phone sounds crystal clear. The speaker phone feature is nice, and works so well, people don't believe I have it on speaker phone... I went looking for a decent 2.4 MHz model. All I saw were mostly bad reviews for this phone. Actually every cordless phone review for any phone was mostly negative, so I figured that only people that were disappointed in a product would bother to write about it. This phone had the features I wanted, so I took a chance and bought it. I like it a lot. I wanted to let people know that this is really a pretty good phone.Features that really sold me: Speakerphone on the handset, multiple phones on one base, NiMH batteries (no memory problems), and Answering machine. Negatives: It seems a little expensive, but when you realize that you get two phones and an answering machine, it kindda seems OK.

Panasonic 2382 Cordless Phone System,
By Thomas J. Carroll (Fall River, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
We really like this phone system. It is the best value in a cordless phone/answering machine that we've owned. The features are just what we need--no more,no less. I had read that programming the phone was difficult, but a careful reading of the instruction booklet proved that to be an inaccurate statment.

Destroyer of Wireless Lans,
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
I am embarrased how my Panasonic Phone Totally destroys 802.11 Wireless Lans... My neighborhood is full of Wireless Lans and 2.4ghz phones causing friction and anger in neighborhood. I and some of my neighbors are THROWING AWAY the 2.4ghz phones for 900mhz phones that co-exist with Wireless Lans..Panasonic should warn on the lable of the box that the 2.4ghz phone will cause your Neighbors to HATE you.... Nothing but trouble not knowing that the 2.4ghz phone causes more grief than benefit... Wish I know this before I wasted my Money on the 2.4Giga Range phone. Had to disconnect it. Waste of my money and just makes all my neighbors Mad...

This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
I previously purchased a 2.4GHZ GE phone and a 5.8GHZ Uniden phone, they both looked nice and had good features but the range was completely unacceptable. So I wanted to make sure this time that I would get a GOOD phone. After reading the reviews on Amazon, and considering it was a Panasonic and with the technology behind it, I decided to purchase it. I must say, I was not disappointed.Pros 2) Exceptional clarity. As soon as you hear the dialtone, the quality is just there. Just as good and sometimes better than a corded phone. 3) Speakerphone. The speakerphone on each handset is a very useful feature, but unlike many other phones this speakerphone is great. The person on the other end usually can't tell you're on speakerphone. 4) Answering machine. This answering is more than adequate and better than the one on my previous phone as it allows you to customise just about all you will need to. The default greeting message is also very adequate. 5) Expandable. Many people nowadays need multiple handsets, and this phone comes with an extra, which is EXCEPTIONAL for this kind of price and phone quality. And due to the range, there would be little problem placing the extra handsets too far from the base. 6) Handset. The handset is almost perfect. It is very light, which is great (some handsets can be very heavy). It feels very good and is very ergonomic. The feel and layout of the buttons, the menus and sounds actually could not be better. I was EXTREMELY impressed with the overall handset. Some people may have a problem with the antenna, it could get in the way sometimes, but I guess thats what you have to get if you want quality and range. There are also a few other nice 'little' features about this phone. Cons 2) Antenna. The antenna is fairly long and non-adjustable and may sometimes get in the way. In all this phone is an exceptional product, and you almost certainly can't go wrong with buying it (unless you are VERY picky). But if you know about the cordless phones presently available, you would even be more thankful for a product of this quality. Even if you don't need the expandability, or some of the other features, you should still buy this phone, because of just the voice quality and range. For all of you looking for all the great features in one very good quality package, here it is.

This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
This is an ugly phone. That silver thing you see in pictures of the phone is SO tacky looking. It looks like a cordless phone from Russia. In fact, the phone isn't ergonomic at all. It's not smooth; you feel things on it as you talk. Also the buttons are positioned in a way that causes you to inadvertently hit one every time you touch the phone.Beyond this, the software is terrible. You have to enter names for speed-dialing by following one of those awful "push 1 six times for a capital K" systems. And you have to push so many buttons to use the speed dial that you might as well direct dial. Even a simple thing like shutting the ringer off requires many pushes of buttons. I mean, the thing has a jog dial. Shouldn't you just be able to push up or down when the phone isn't in use to turn the ringer on or off? No. You have to go through the menus -- for each phone separately -- to turn the ringer on and off. The phone does have good sound quality. I'll give it that. And it's not that expensive. Still, I don't think I'd buy it again given all the pitfalls. |
