Amazon.com Product Description

A digital cordless phone with exceptional signal quality and a host of added features, Panasonic's KXTG2583 also provides a sleek design and a fully integrated answering center. Operating on the 2.4 GHz band, as opposed to the more common 900 MHz band, this phone is able to offer significantly increased clarity and handset range. Sensitivity to handset signal is increased by providing two omni directional antennas, while error-correction software helps to increase the range of the handset without significant signal loss. The phone also utilizes digital spread-spectrum technology, which enhances security by shifting frequencies multiple times every second.

The KCTG2583 includes many convenient featur. You can adjust ringer and handset volumes to your liking and also have the option of choosing tone or pulse dialing. You can expect about 4.5 hours of talk time and about 11 days of standby before recharging the handset battery. The speakerphone lets you roam at will and is fully digital, resulting in more intelligible conversations with less echo and dropout. LED screens on both the handset and base tell you the name and number of incoming calls, even if you are on the other line, while a two-way paging system can either locate that ever-elusive handset or let you talk to someone in another room. The base is easily wall mountable, and the handset is headset compatible.

The answering center is more like a personal secretary than a simple machine. The built in memory can hold 15 minutes of date/time stamped messages, while the speed dial memory stores up to 50 of your most frequently dialed numbers. If you're a subscriber to voice messaging services, you can program the phone to notify you when you have new messages in your box.

Reasonably priced for the number of features, the KXTG2583 also comes backed with a one-year parts and labor warranty.

From the Manufacturer

With clear sound, superb range and security, cordless phones with digital spread-spectrum technology such as the Panasonic KXTG-2583 have a greater output power, and thus greater range, than other cordless phones. In addition, this 2.4 GHz GigaRange phone features advanced error-correction software that helps maintain signal integrity at greater distances for high-quality sound.

As the indoor performance of 2.4 GHz cordless phones can be compromised by the fact that 2.4 GHz signals tend to bounce off solid objects, affecting reception quality, Panasonic has introduced the diversity antenna system. This feature improves indoor reception by using two omnidirectional antennas, which offer increased signal sensitivity and enhanced sound quality.

The handset LCD can display the name and number of incoming callers even if you're on another call. Up to 50 names and numbers can be stored in memory for easy retrieval and direct callback. If you subscribe to voice-mail service from your phone company, a light on the phone will illuminate when you have new messages in your mailbox.

A total of 15 minutes worth of messages can be recorded on the KXTG-2583's answering system. All recorded messages are automatically stamped with the date and time they were received, and held in flash memory, so they'll survive any power interruptions or failures.

This unit's duplex speakerphones use digital circuitry to reduce the echo and dropout effects, which are common in conventional speakerphones, for more natural-sounding conversations.

Dual keypads allow you to make calls from the base, the handset or a combination of both. In addition, the two-way intercom lets you communicate between the base unit and the handset, whether you're trying to locate a misplaced handset or talking to someone in a different room.

Other convenience features on the KXTG-2583 include one-touch dialing capability, selectable handset volume and ringer loudness, a lighted handset keypad, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars This phone is a tank., January 19, 2002
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2583B 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering Device (Black) (Office Product)
I have dropped this phone on concrete, and used it in the shower. It still sounds as good as new.

The most outstanding features about this phone are:

1. Incredible range. I can drive around my block (in San Francisco) and not lose the signal until the end of the block. I'm not sure if this is typical. The salesman at Tweeter said, "this phone will overpower all the other phones in your apartment complex. And isn't that what it's all about?"

2. Sound quality. Indistinguishable from a land line. Have not experienced interference. Volume levels are generous- Loud and clear at the lowest handset level, up to painfully loud at the highest speakerphone volume.

3. Features. Very good sounding full duplex speaker phone in the base. A fully functioning phone in the base- great when you want to call customer service and hold for 45 minutes while doing your work. The usual caller ID, user directory, and digital answerer functions.

4. Ease of use. Voice menus, screen menus are clear and functional. Display scrolls quickly, updates quickly. No need to read the manual here. Very sensibly laid out and efficient. Ignore what the other reviewer said about being complex. This is as simple as it gets. A complicated phone would be the Siemens 4215, which you should not buy.

5. Quality. You can abuse this phone without worry.

Downsides:

1. This phone gets a little warm with continued use. Use a handsfree headphone or headset if you talk for a long time.

2. It looks a little like a pokemon character with the twin antennas in the base.

There are really no other serious criticisms.

You'll be very happy owning and using this phone, and it should last a good while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cordless Phone, July 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2583B 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering Device (Black) (Office Product)
This is the best cordless phone I have bought. Its built for a little rough use. No need to worry if you drop it once in a while. The caller ID on both the handset and the base is easy to read. Sound quality is excellent and range is good. Since the base and handset can be used seperately, conference calls are easy. Easy to setup and the menu is easy to use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Returned it, October 1, 2001
I read the reviews here and though that I finally found a phone that would replace my eight-year old answering machine phone. I'm still looking.

Major features I considered:
1) Good speakerphone sound quality - Poor. My office speakerphone sounds much better; and it's a cheapo!
2) Backlit LCD screen - Lasts for about 3 and a half seconds on the handset, no backlit at the base.
3) Dual keypad (base and handset) - telephone configuration only works with the handset, #1 above made this irrelevant.

In addition, the handset is uncomfortable to hold on the shoulder; reception is good.

I have to say I was disapointed and returned it.
