Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The KX-TG2770S from Panasonic is an expandable phone system that features both a corded base unit as well as an additional cordless phone and cradle. Up to seven additional handsets can be added to the system (for a total of eight) for conferencing purposes or simple convenience, while a privacy setting lets you determine if others are allowed to join in to the conversation.

By utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency and digital spread spectrum technology, the KX-TG2770S offers clear, intelligible reception even at a distance. The fully digital answering machine has a 15-minute maximum record time with a selectable one or three-minute maximum message length, while up to three mailboxes are provided to help organize messages. A 50-number speed dial memory makes dialing the most frequently called number a snap, while the caller ID memory provides a record of the 50 most recent incoming calls.

The Ni-CD battery provides up to 4.5 hours of talk time, and up to 11 days of standby, while an intercom function allows users to communicate with others in the home or office. A low-battery indicator lets you know when to return the handset to its cradle, while the page function makes finding a lost handset quick and painless.

The KX-TG2770S is headset compatible and comes with a speakerphone button on both the base and handset, providing hands-free operation and saving your neck from the strain of cradling the phone. The KX-TG2770S also comes backed with a one-year parts and labor warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great expandable phone system!, September 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2770S 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Corded Base-Handset (Office Product)
I purchased this Panasonic product to replace a Sony corded/cordless combination phone when the cordless went south. I had some trepidation about the Panasonic product because I have heard of the high return rate at the local electronic stores. I have used this phone and 4 additional expansion phones for about a month and I must say this is the best sound quality I have heard from a 2.4 GHz system. In fact, the best sound quality from any cordless I've used! I really like the speaker phone on the cordless: great for when calling those automated systems and get put on hold forever! The messages can be checked from the cordless units, and with the caller ID function, you can review who called and send the number to be stored in the directory (memory)! Lots of features to justify the price. The only recomendation I have for Panasonic is to include the capability to delete messages from the handsets. I also recommend the cordless expansion unit with the built in alarm clock. Works great and looks good too. One small unit takes the place of two in the bedroom. Overall, a really great system and I have not experienced any problems in the first month of using them. The phones can be found cheaper at E-tronics however.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low Volume, Defective Battery, and Horrible Customer Service, February 5, 2004

This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2770S 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Corded Base-Handset (Office Product)
Good: customizable ring tones for both handset and corded phone, intercom function, 3 different mail boxes for each family member, good reception, voice mail check and speaker phone function from handset

Bad: no distinctive ring function, horribly low volume, time stamp after each message as another user described.

I have used the headset with my Motorola cell phone headphone because the volume is too low. I have used Panasonic headset in the past with another Panasonic phone. It even lowered the volume and it was easily broke so I do not use it any more.

Over all, I think this product is ok except low volume but it is very pricey, considering all the facts.
------------------------------
Update: After using it for about 3 months, the battery ran out 5-15 minutes of use. I have contacted Panasonic to resolve the issue but still have not received the replacement over a month.

There are other problems with this phone that I discovered but have not been able to test because I do not have the battery.

There is a class action going on with this product:

1.0 out of 5 stars KX-TG and KX-TC lines are defective! Read on..., November 17, 2005

This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG2770S 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Corded Base-Handset (Office Product)
I purchased the base unit (which includes one handset) and two additional handsets. They worked okay for about a month or so, then the handset started inexplicably dying. Sometimes the screen went totally blank and you would lose the call or couldn't dial. Othertimes the screen said that I was too far away from the base (even when I was literally right next to the base). So I called customer service and they said that it sounded like I needed a new battery (after a MONTH!). I actually read the directions before using the phone and I wasn't even putting the phones on the bases to recharge after every call so that the NI CD batteries wouldn't develop a memory (they don't use the better Lithium Ion batteries that do not develop a memory). So this made no sense. Anyway, I went ahead and bought the batteries (for all three handsets) and that didn't solve the problem at all. I then went ahead and purchased another handset. Again, no problems for a month and then the same issue. Customer service issued remanufactured phones (4 handsets) and in about a month to 8 weeks all were exactly the same.

I know I wasn't doing anything wrong to cause this. I began searching the Internet and low and behold I am not alone. Apparently a law firm in New Jersey has already filed a class action law suit against Panasonic for the entire KX-TG and KX-TC cordless phone lines. Search "panasonic cordless phone class action" on google. It will be the first hit. As an attorney myself (not in any way affiliated with or even previously aware of the firm that has filed the suit), I can tell you it takes a lot of consumer complaints before a law firm decides to invest its resources in a class action suit as they are very expensive and time consuming.

So, I've learned my lesson the hard way (although there wasn't anything I could've done differently at the time of purchase). Hopefully, my experience and research into this can prevent you from having to deal with it in the future. Panasonic was unjustly enriched in distributing such a defective product and not having the corporate decency to at least recall it and replace it with a functioning line or refunding our hard earned dollars. Very disappointing and I certainly will not be purchasing the Panasonic brand again.
