Product Description

# DECT 6.0 Technology means less interference Engineered to work in 1.9GHz frequency, our DECT 6.0 phones wont conflict with common wireless devices such as 2.4GHz routers, wireless keyboards and mouses, microwave ovens and other household items. And because its digital, youll enjoy long range and clear sound while deterring eavesdropping.

# Call Block Store the Caller ID info of any and all unwanted callers into your phones Call Block list so that you can eliminate future pesky calls from them. After their information is stored, theyll get a busy signal if they call you again.

# Silent Mode Now you can program each handset to ring or not at your discretion. For example, before you go to sleep, set the bedside handset to Silent Mode so that it wont ring for the duration of your slumber. In the meantime, the handset in another room is unaffected, and rings as usual. --PLUS--Additional Digital Cordless Handset

5.0 out of 5 stars Feature-rich set, long battery life, no Wi-Fi disruption, expandable, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG6445T DECT 6.0 6-handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone Answering System Kit (Electronics)
This is our second DECT set - we actually bought the 4-handset version - and we've been encouraged to get it after a very positive experience with a multiple phone DECT set from another vendor. I've been using the Panasonic for a couple of weeks already. I hope that my experience may help others decide whether this is the set worth buying or they should be looking elsewhere.

So far, the phones operated as expected and they gave me no trouble. The set is expandable to 6 handsets per base (that would be the answering machine) but I had no need to purchase any extras. The answering machine we don't use because our pre-existing DECT set answering machine does everything very well so I won't have much to say about it.

THE BADS

I thought I'd start with the bad issues which are not too many so, if these are disqualifiers you may not want to read much farther.

- The speaker volume is low. This is true for both the phones and the answering machine/base. This probably has some advantages when it comes to battery life (see below) but anyone who must have a loud speaker should be warned that these phones' speakers are anything BUT loud.
- The ring volume is also low. Seriously, anyone who has a hearing problem should NOT buy this set. I do not mind the low ring volume because too loud rings bother me but I am listing this as a negative because some could mind.
- Talking caller ID we don't use it. It's spooky but, to each his/her own, some may appreciate this.
- The design and the colors could be improved - a matter of personal taste.

THE OUTSTANDING

- Call blocking is probably the best feature this phone comes with. I have a number of marketers who insisted on calling us several times per day - there's a loophole in the national 'do not call' prohibition that allows for company who've done business with you are are doing business with you to keep calling for a year or 2 after they had some 'relationship' with you and they are relentless. They also ring only 3 or 4 times and, if you don't answer they stop so they can bother you for free. The call blocking picks up the phone and then hangs up on them. This makes the phone company rich and gives us more peace of mind.
- Silent mode can be set on individual handsets. A light will flash when set to silent.
- Good range - the DECT specs claim 300 feet but, with the base in the basement I had to trouble with 150-200 ft.
- Long battery life. Possibly because of the low-volume, these phones seem to last forever on a charge. I can stay on conference calls, on speaker, for hours.
- Zero interference with my WiFi and Blackberry.

FEATURES

- Black on white display
- Backlit keypad
- Belt clip - my wife loves this more than I do because I tend to be at my desk when I talk on the phone
- Headset jacks on all handsets - another feature that my wife loves
- Speakerphone on all handsets
- Long battery life
- Talking 'low battery' alert
- Pick from a number of set ring tones
- Handset locator
- Talking Caller ID (not impressed)
- 50-number phonebook
- 50-number CallerID recall
- Set phone provider's voicemail number for quick access
- Mute/Hold/Flash (of course)
- Ring volume can be set to High/Mid/Low/Off (high may be too low for some)
- Alarm (talking)
- Silent mode
- Call blocking (see above)
- Intercom
- Conferencing (including between handsets)
- Easy to navigate, simple menus
- Shows date and time

I am overall VERY happy with these phones. The 'low volume' issue does not warrant taking off one star and the same can be said about the 'design' which is a matter of taste but how many of us spend much time staring at their handsets? I would recommend this set. I would not miss the opportunity if it was made available again as a 'deal of the day' or a 'lightning deal'.

___________________________________________

Just in case anyone cares to know what DECT is about.

DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) is a relatively new (2005) standard for cordless phones, initially developed in Europe.

Some of the advantages of DECT 6.0 include:

- easier to implement multiple handsets sharing one phone jack connection via one common base (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- easier to implement intercom features between individual handsets (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- extended range, up to 300 feet
- low power consumption and, therefore, extended battery life
- better performance in areas experiencing heavy radio traffic
- not affected by Wi-Fi or Bluetooh signals (neither are the 5.8 MHz)

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Sound Quality - Lacking Features, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG6445T DECT 6.0 6-handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone Answering System Kit (Electronics)
I purchased this phone set to replace my Uniden 5.8 expandable set.
Well they lasted less than 24 hours and are being returned.

Outside of a few features that this phone lacks from my Uniden...which I will get into later....the main reason that I am returning these phones is for poor sound quality and STATIC.
In addition to the high amount of static when placing calls, these phones have a hollow tin can sound compared to the Unidens. While I may have been able to eventually adjust to the difference in sound...I would never be able to get past the static that I heard during every call while using the phones.

Features that are missing from the Panasonics phones that my Unidens did have:

- Base Station Visual Display. While the phone that is placed into the base station certainly has a visual display, it is much easier on my Unidens to use the answering maching because of the visual display built into the base station.

- No way to name handsets....this is very very helpful when using the intercom feature. The Panasonics are pre-numbered so you have to remember which number phone you are paging when using the intercom feature. On the Unidens you can name each phone and page by phone name when using the intercom. For instance do you want to remember that the family room phone is called phone #3 or simply name it Family Room.

- Ring Volume can be adjusted on the Unidens at any time by simply pressing the up or down key when the phone is not in use. On the Panasonics you have to adjust the ring volume while it is actually ringing on an incoming call or go thourgh several steps using the menu system.

- Soft menu keys are ....really too soft and require a pretty good press to use.

About the only good thing about these phones was the Talking Caller ID...which I though was pretty well implemented and quite audible!

Keep in mind that I have 3 Panasonic flat panel TV's in my home and do not have a bad word to say about any of them...so this is not about bashing Panasonic as a company but an honest opinion of my experience of this particular phone system.

I hope this review helps others in making the right decision when considering this phone system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value!, August 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG6445T DECT 6.0 6-handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone Answering System Kit (Electronics)
The Panaxonic KX-TG6445T six handset, cordless phone system works well for me. There are two weaknesses: The microphone on the base does not pick up as well as the handsets, but the base handset makes up for that. The phone book's capacity is only fifty numbers for the whole system rather than each handset, but it's convenient that the phonebook is shared.

The ability to shut the ring volume off, choose ring tones, store the last five redial numbers, and intercom between handsets are nice features. With the low cost and overall features and functions, it's an excellent value.
