5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice phone!!!!, June 8, 2010
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG6544B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System, Black, 4 Handsets (Office Product)
Purchased this phone to replace a DECT 6 Uniden 6 handset unit. The range on the Uniden was fairly short (compared to my old 900 Mhz one) and the battery issues were getting on my nerves!!!! The handsets would not stay charged and to replace the batteries- they were an order item. This Panasonic phone does hula hoops around my DECT 6.0 Uniden!!! Twice the range and guess what? The batteries are replaceable Ni-MH AAA style!!!! I love the talking caller ID (which you can edit the 'said' name if it is in your contacts). Just an all around great phone- comfortable, solid, and more features than you could imagine- all the way down to turning off the display if it is sitting in it's cradle- a nice feature to have it is on your nightstand. Want to get rid of the tone when you press a button? No problem-- there is a menu toggle for that- Want to set the unit to silent mode for a couple hours while you take a nap? No problem-- there is a feature for that!!! Want to set an alarm- guess what- you guessed it- there is a feature for that!!! The handsets even know when you are close to the base unit and go into powersave mode due to the short range needed to keep your call crystal clear. Just an absolute best buy in my opinion!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone, July 17, 2010

Phone was easy to set up and use. Battery life is great, but it always goes on the charger when not in use. Like the label feature so you know where to replace the handset. I bought it for the intercom feature so I could contact the rec room to have the kids "turn it down" without going downstairs. Works great. Phone also has call block which I did not realize but it comes in very handy, nice unexpected feature. The only downside is the lack of battery backup. I have always had this but will have to train others to use the wired phone in case of power outages. Had it about 30 days now and have had no problems.
PS. I shouls have bought the set with 5 handsets. you can always put a phone someware and my wife found a place shortly after they arrived. additional hand set ordered.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best phone system yet but a few things missing, September 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG6544B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System, Black, 4 Handsets (Office Product)
We needed to replace an old Radio Shack phone system that was having battery and other issues and we didn't want to buy expensive replacement batteries. Overall this Panasonic system is the best of the three systems that we have owned.

We have no issues with volume and in fact have to turn the volume down sometimes. On a related note, I recently had wax removed from my ears and found that I had lost 50% or more of my hearing as a result of the wax. I am sure that I would have had issues with the volume on this phone prior to the wax removal. This is not a joke; if you are having hearing problems check that out first!

We had one problem the first day with interference but followed the instructions from Panasonic customer service (email) about disconnecting and reconnecting the base and have had no problems since. We have had the system for over a month so I felt comfortable writing this review. We are using a headset for calls of any length as a result of potential issues with microwave radiation from cordless phones.

Positives and things we looked for or liked about the system:

1. Uses AAA rechargeable batteries instead of a battery pack

2. All headsets store phonebook and recent call info on the base instead of on each headset.

3. Large bright display that is easily seen without my reading glasses.

4. Call block for annoying callers.

5. Talking Caller ID does a reasonable job as long as you enter names phonetically

Negatives (mostly things Panasonic should have addressed):

1. Limited to 50 entries in the phonebook-not a big deal for us but obviously is for others.

2. Limited ring tones - I know the Talking Caller ID is meant to replace this and TCI is a good feature but we miss hearing special tones for special people.

3. Only time will tell if the numbers wear off the buttons; they aren't recessed.

4. It seems that cordless phone systems are the only electronics not keeping up with USB technology. There is no ability to connect to other systems to transfer data or download new info or ring tones. This is a good phone system but it could be great with a little thought.

Very good phone for me but you have to buy it to find out.

I wish the advertisers would list important features to consumers!
This phone had important features for me but they were not listed.

Voice quaility is very good. When I was away from home; my daughter called and listened to my odutgoing message and thought it was me in person. She remarked the voice quaility was great! In conversation the voice quaility is very good.

I have held off buying for a long time. The reason: In my opionion; most adds to not reflect the specific features that I want in a cordless phone.

Pro:
Key for me; from any extension:
1. You may store new phone numbers.
2. When making calls; access stored phone numbers are available.
3. Callers recorded messages are available.

Very good distance range from the base unit.

Con:
I am an engineer and the steps to access stored numbers should be reduced.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Customer Service With Defective Product, November 14, 2010

I was looking to replace a V-Tech phone which was good, but the batteries on all of the phones were dying too quickly and needed to be replaced. Since it was going to be expensive, I decided to get a new set of phones. This product had all of the features I was looking for in a phone and more, but did not seem to overdo it. I received the product promptly from the merchant, and the product was brand new and packaged well. I took it out and setup was a breeze. The instruction booklet provided quick buttons to get to the basic setup features so I did not have to go through all of the menus. I set up the volume of the ringer and set my ringer to toll saver. I set the date and time of the phones, all of which can be done from any of the handsets. I put the phones around my house in places I would use them and tried them out. The voice quality was great and for the first day the phone worked great. I left my house and received a telephone call. The answering machine picked it up and, while part of the message cut out a bit, it might have been the caller's phone that failed. I decided to save the message because I needed the phone number she left.

The next day I decided to test out my phone to see if I could check the messages remotely. One of the features I had changed was to put a new password onto my phone. I was not able to check the messages and could not figure out what the problem was. Then my mother called while I was out and left a message, but I never got it. Later, we figured out that the message had gone through to my Verizon voicemail which comes with my phone service.

I called Panasonic customer service. Let me first say that navigating their voice activated system was not fun. The system thought telephone was television, routed me incorrectly and would not give me a customer service representative. I had to hang up the phone and say "telephone" abut five times before it recognized the word. Then it asked me what about my product I needed help with. I tried several "passwords" but it took me about five minutes to guess the correct one ("technical support" in case you were wondering) in order to get to a customer service representative. The representative was not very knowledgeable and told me that the problem was that the Verizon system was picking up before 4 rings and I had to call Verizon and tell them to fix it. I had her call me back. My phone rang 5 times and then had a half ring before my Verizon voicemail then picked up her call. She called me back and I picked up the phone. She swore the phone only rang 4 times before my Verizon voicemail picked up, but both my son and I counted 5. When I told her to try again and that she counted wrong, she got upset with me. She said to turn my phone to 3 rings and see what happens. The phone worked properly, but now it was going to be 3 rings all the time instead of toll saver, which I preferred. Since I paid a lot of money for this phone, I figured I was at least entitled to get the toll saver feature to work. I told her that this was not working properly and asked if there was anything I could do to fix the toll saver, since it had apparently worked properly when I first set the phone up - after I all, I had successfully received one call. She said I was wrong and the phone was working properly. I asked for a supervisor and she hung up on me.

Since I was off the phone, I put the system back on toll saver and tested the number of rings and counted 5, both while I was listening in my cell phone handset and hearing it out loud through the Panasonic phone. I tried it several times. My son and I both counted 5 rings each time.

I called back, now knowing the correct "passwords" (though I had to say them multiple times to get the system to recognize the words). I spoke with a second woman who was nice enough, but wouldn't even try calling me back to test out the 5-ring thing. She said I must be doing something wrong with the phone and if it works on 3 rings, just leave it on that. She could not understand why I wanted or needed toll saver. I asked for a supervisor. She tried to transfer me and the phone disconnected. At least hers was not intended to be rude.

I tried a third time. I told her "I'm sure you're very nice, but I have already had problems with two customer service representatives, may I please speak with a supervisor." She stalled me for several minutes despite my repeated requests for a supervisor, and I finally decided to give up and just return the phones.

Just as an aside, although I purchased it through Amazon and, normally, Amazon will still take it back, I got a hard time from their customer service representative advising that I need to contact Beach Camera first and only if they won't help me should I call Amazon. I can't even find a telephone number for Beach Camera, and Amazon was not helpful. By the way, since it's so hard to find Amazon's customer service number, if you ever need it - they are at 800-201-7575.

We have had these phones for about a month now. We love them. The feature we use most is the intercom, no more yelling. Our old phones were very outdated so these phones seem like a luxury to us. I really can't think of anything I don't like. Another feature that is very handy is being able to pick up messages from any of the handsets. We researched many phone models and consulted Consumer Reports. We are extremely pleased with this product and highly recommend it.

Great Buy on Amazon. Best price on the net we could find. We highly recommend this set. Several people we regularly call have commented on how much better voice quality is on this set versus our old one. Very easy to set up, very easy to learn menu functions. Huge number of useful new features on this set. The handsets are smaller and slightly harder to hold than our old Panasonics. Overall we rate this Panasonic set a 4 1/2 Stars.

i purchased the panasonic DECT 6.0 with answering machine and 4 (total) handsets. i was disappointed with the capacity of the phone book and caller ID, but went with it anyway. i loved the large numbers and letters on the screen, nice! the sound? great. choice of rings? could've been more and less music ones (who chooses those?) however the ones offered were pleasant enough. good answering machine. ok here's the part i just could not live with...
it has noise canceling? i am not really sure it has that but, whatever it is, it's very annoying. when i'm talking the other person can't interrupt and vice/versa. every call involved them asking, are you still there? because of the dead sound on my end. so as much as i didn't want to, i returned it.
also i almost didn't buy the phone because of the talking caller ID. not everybody wants that and it did not state that it was optional, i called and asked can i opt not to use that, and was assured that it was optional.
maybe i am asking too much of something that seems to be falling to the way side.

I bought this set to replace an older Panasonic 5.8 MHz system and I'm very pleased. Setup was a breeze -- the instructions are very clear and I really didn't need them much. The display is larger and much more readable and the lighted keypad is a plus. One very nice feature is the ability to delete the incoming call log from all phones at once; in the past I had to do each separately. One reviewer noted the improvement of her wireless computer due to less interference from these phones and I certainly agree. There's no static and the downstairs wireless seems faster.
Beach Camera, the supplier, was as usual very prompt in shipping -- I've dealt with them many times for photo equipment and they've never let me down.
In all, a good choice for phones.

I bought this system to replace a system that was 8 years old. I love the ease of use with all the features (many more than were on the old system). Battery life is very long... I often spend 2 - 3 hours on the phone with one of my distant, yet closest, friends.
