1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!, January 5, 2010

This review is from: Panasonic KX-TG9342T Dual Handset Digital Cordless DECT 6.0 Phone System (Electronics)
Why can't you give a zero rating? This product deserves it, or maybe a 1/2. I bought from a different seller, but have had nothing but problems. Ours came with three handsets, not 2, but it is basically the same phone system.

We chose this because we wanted something with an actual answering machine AND because it was imperative that we have handsets that had headset jacks, which are harder and harder to come by. We also did not want to spend a ton of money for a ridiculous number of handsets. (Really, how many how big is your house that you need 6 handsets with your phone? They're cordless, take the handsets with you as you walk around!)

There are a few begrudging PROS to this phone:

1 - Easy to check messages remotely

2 - Handsets are light weight but feel substanital

3 - Can set different rings for each handset or turn ringer off. Has a sleep time ringer setting, too, which, although we don't use it, seems like a useful feature

4 - Has headset jacks (though, see CONS below)

5 - Handsets have indicators lights that flash on remote handsets when there is a new message waiting or when there is an incoming call -- nice when you have the ringer set to off, as we do near our kids' bedrooms

CONS:

1 - The headset jack on one of the handsets is already "spotty," working only sometimes, even though the phones are less than 6 months old.

2 - Often when I hang up one call and go to either answer the next call or to make a call soon after, the handset I was using will seem to "die," as if the battery has run out -- even if the battery is fully charged. This also happens sometimes when trying to switch from one handset to another when the battery IS about to run out. This usually disconnects the call. This also happens sometimes when when I try to use the Speaker Phone setting instead of the Talk setting when I go for a dial tone initially.

3 - It takes a long time for the phone to reset itself after hanging up a call. Sometimes I have to wait a full minute or two before I can get a dial tone again. It is not our phone line that causes this, it is the phone.

4 - There is no number display for answering system. If there are new messages, the red arrow on the base flashes or the remote handsets have an indicator light on top that flashes. If there are old messages saved, you don't know unless you check. This can be a real pain when more than one person is checking the machine, and you don't realize newer messages have come in.

5 - The "skip" feature when scrolling through saved messages is a little touchy. I have accidentally deleted newer messages while trying to get through older saved messages quickly.

5 - Calls to certain places we call frequently sound VERY tinny and have an echo. This does not happen with our old "corded" phones, which we keep around for power outages, and never happened with our old cordless phone, which was about 10 years old when it finally died.

Overall, we didn't want to spend a lot of money on new phones, because so many came with all sorts of bells-and-whistle features we didn't need or want. This seemed pretty basic and that it would meet our needs, but it has been a BIG disappointment. It is too late to return it, but of course, the problems have started now that we actually been using the system.
