Excellent Range and Sound,

This review is from: Panasonic KX-TGA106M Extra Handset for KX-TG1061M and KX-TG1062M, Metallic Grey (Office Product)
I've had a long series of cordless phones over the last couple of years with the last two being a DECT unit from Uniden and the previous a DECT unit from VTECH. Neither of those has gotten close to the range and reliability that I'm finding with the Panasonic handset. The Uniden set I most recently had would suddenly say "Out of Range" during a call when I was less than 30 feet from the base! I have gotten two houses down in my neighborhood with the Panasonic handset with minimal dropouts and good quality.
The features I like best are: 1) Ability to download address book from base 2) When a review missed calls on any handset, all the handsets (and base) clear the missed call 3) Ability to review messages on answering machine from any handset I haven't found any cons yet, but if/when I do, I'll come back and revise the review.

I got this handset for my phone, so I could have sets in multiple locations. I know these are wireless and can be attached to your clothing and walk around, but I way too often find myself in the bedroom with the phone in the living room or vice versa. I knew the drill, as I already had a handset, however, this I had to pair myself. The instructions were a little bit confusing, but probably because I expected beeps I didn't get. I pressed the pairing button for 5 seconds, and then put the handset in the charger, and hoped that was it. I didn't see the messages I expected, but it may have been me waiting for beeps and not paying attention.
Today I confirmed that they were paired, by sending my phone list from the phone to the handset. Let me review this handset with pros and cons: Pros ==== * Handset is light. It is a small handset, it doesn't weigh much. It feels a little bit plasticy, but I like the way it sits in my hand. * When you let a call go to the answering machine, you can hear the message on the phone. I like to screen calls from numbers I don't know, and this feature is nice when the CID isn't working (if for example the sender has a secret number). I can listen to the message, and if it someone I want to speak with, I can pick it up without having to go to the phone. * Listening to messages on answering machine is easy. The menus are easy enough to find your way around so you can tap into the answering machine on the phone and listen to messages. Cons ==== * Menus are a little bit confusing. While I can generally find all I need, it takes a little while before I find it. I sometimes quit by pressing the "Off" button and start again. I think they could have been done a bit more intuitively, but I have yet to not find what I am looking for. I haven't used this handset enough to establish how good the sound quality is, but I will get back with more info as soon as I have some.

Very satisfied with the purchase and it fulfills my needs in most every way. Nothing there that I won't get used to. Do wish that it "laid down" to forestall our cats from knocking them over, but that's small potatoes! I like the ease of operation though there is a "learning curve" for this old man. Thanks!

Pros:
1. As advertised the signal isn't affected by the microwave as our last phone was. This was a major selling factor for me since before we couldn't use the microwave when someone was using the phone. 2. I like the option to add extra handsets. Original pkg came with 2 & we needed 3. 3. The handsets sit in the charging cradle more securely than our last phones. With the old phones, if you didn't get it set in just right the phone wouldn't charge. Cons: 1. The original base has a corded phone. I wanted a corded phone like this for the times that the power goes out. BUT this one has to be plugged into the wall socket for power. The old-time corded phones worked off electric from the phone line so if the power went out you could still call for help. This is my biggest complaint. I almost returned the set when I realized this. But we needed phones. 2. In order to delete the calls on the Caller ID you have to push too many buttons.

We waited quite a while to go wireless with the phones, because for the general populus, portability was more important than sound quality, and that is what the manufacturers focused on. For us being able to have a conversation far ourweighted the inconvenience of having to stay in one place for the duration of the call. These work pretty well. The sound quality still does not match a land line, but it is far better than a Cell. I purchased the two handsets with the answering machine earlier, and decided that it might be good to add an extra for the bedroom, so this was a single. It took only a few minutes to link it to the existing system, and it is the same quality of the original set. I like the grey as it has an "old silver" look which goes well with our decor. The bells can be set very loud, so we have them at the lowest setting and they can still be heard everywhere. I could do with an even lower bell setting, but you can mute individual phones - which we did for this one. I can't discuss features much, it does have redial which has been useful and numbers can be stored with names that display. I like that I don't have to go to the answering system to hear messages as every phone by default plays the message and response aloud - useful when screening calls. Can be a problem if you have visitors a lot and don't particularly want them to know your messages, but you may be able to turn of selected phones - haven't tried that yet. The buttons are large, the numbers are large and the display uses large fonts, so for those of you concerned about the ity bitty stuff being unreadable and unuseable, this one is good. It came as promised, on time, well packed. good purchase.

The sound quality of the phone is clear and very good. I've had considerable difficulty in understanding directions for using the various functions. Therefore I've given ease of use and functions only 3 stars. Overall though I'm very satisfied with the system and hopefully will be able to use its full capability.

I bought by 70-year-old mother the system this phone goes with. She now has a phone in strategic locations in case something happes, she does not need to go far to answer, etc. It worked great for her so my wife and I got a set for our house. Works great, the sound quality is excellent, the range is really good, the features are relatively high-end. The only complaint that I have is about the answering machine. I cannot find a way (so I do not think there is one) to make it beep when there is a message. There is a light that comes on, but there is no audible warning. Copying the address book around from base to each phone is handy.
Overall, great system, would defintely recommend it for a land-line.

I love this phone and its features. The sound is good. The only thing I don't like about it, is that not many of the features are listed on the menu. You have to use a 3 digit code to access most of them, which means you can never lose your users manual, because you have to refer to it frequently. There are way too many codes to remember.

This unit is an add-on to a Panasonic cordless base. The whole system works beautifully, with no interference or sound quality issues. I love the fact that you can screen calls from the handset - or not- depending on what you prefer! Great item!

While it is a pervert replacement for my original Panasonic and easy to sync with my base unit, it is still a mystery why my original phone gave out less than one year from purchase. I guess if your gives out this will be the way to go.
