The base of the Panasonic KXTG2400B is designed with two antennae, one for transmitting and one for receiving. Although this system cannot be mounted on your wall, it does give your calls crisp, clean sound. It also allows you to use the phone anywhere in your house as well as outside with minimal interference. If you do encounter static, simply press the channel button to find a clearer channel in your location. The high-capacity NiMH battery lets you talk for eight hours away from the base and lasts up to 14 days on standby.
The sturdy, shock-resistant handset has a standard button layout along with a large Navigator button, which essentially serves as four buttons in one. Press the upper and lower portions of the Navigator button for ringer and volume, and the left and right sides for program and auto functions. The program function gives you access to memory dialing and other special features. We found the auto function somewhat awkward, however. It's needed only to select the dialing mode (tone/pulse) and to store numbers in memory, and for both of these tasks we thought Panasonic should have used a more intuitive button (a Memory button for example). While the functions of the Navigator button do not necessarily relate to each other and could just as easily have been separate buttons, it does nevertheless minimize clutter on the handset.
Storing a phone number in memory is not as intuitive as other phones we've tested because there is no Memory button, but the easy-to-read owner's manual explains the task in just a few steps. We pressed the left side of the Navigator button (program), entered a phone number, pressed the right side of the Navigator button (auto), and selected a station number between 0 and 9. A beep let us know our phone number had been stored. To dial the stored number, we pressed the auto function and then the station number. There is also a Direct button that dials a phone number with the touch of only one button rather than two. Since you can only store one number at a time in the direct function, we found it rather unnecessary, but it may be useful for a frequently dialed or emergency number.
The Panasonic KXTG2400B also offers a handset locator, Flash button for call waiting services, and battery status indicators. With its well-chosen suite of features and its interference-free transmission, the Panasonic KXTG2400 makes a good all-around choice for basic home use. --Emily Bakko

Nice features but short on distance.,

This review is from: Panasonic KXTG2400 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone (Black) (Office Product)
This phone has a nice form factor; contoured to fit your face and hand. Rubber bumpers on the rounded corners make it fairly durable. Headphone jack is handy too. BUT... for all the hype (GigaRange Extreme!) it can't keep up with the two 900 MHz DSS phones I tested it against. With their base stations placed in exactly the same spot, both the Sony SPP-SS965 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum and a 3 year old Escort CT 9701 Digital Spread Spectrum both outperformed the Panasonic in terms of useable distance by approx 180 - 200% in diameter. I even tested two samples of the Panasonic to make sure I didn't have a defective unit. The Panasonic is great for running around the house or a small yard, but don't expect to roam around the neighborhood and stay connected. If that's your goal, buy the Sony.

Longest distance for cordless phones,

I love my 2.4 gigahertz Panasonic phone. I gives me about twice the range of my previous 900 Mhz cordless phone. I can go downstairs from my highrise (even half-way down the block) and the phone will still work. It is great when I am expecting a phone call to my land line and wish to do stuff around the house or down the block. If I need to go further, I still need my cell phone.

Excellent sound quality, good battery life, great range.,

This review is from: Panasonic KXTG2400 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone (Black) (Office Product)
This phone has one of the best sound quality that I have heard on a cordless phone (and I have had many, including 900 analog and 900 dss types). It really minimizes static and other disruptions well. It does have great range as well, although it is not as good as the panasonic promotional material makes it sound. One thing that is often overlooked is that this phone is one of the few that uses the NiMH batteries instead of the old NiCd ones. This is a great improvement, as we all know how annoying it is to run out of juice in the middle of conversation. One minor con: the "talk" button on this phone is surprisingly small. You do get used to it, but you wonder, what was Panasonic thinking? Definitely get the headset for this phone. It is too cool and practical to not spend the extra $10-$20 for it. Might I recommend the Plantronic M110? I have the $10 ATT and it pinches my ear.
