Amazon.com Review

Sturdy construction and rubberized trim protect the Panasonic KXTG2500 cordless phone against everyday wear and tear and accidental splashes. Plus, its twin-band transmission provides virtually interference-free conversation at an incredible range.

Setting up the phone was easy, and the battery charged completely in seven hours. The battery is rated for eight hours of talk time and will remain charged for up to 14 days on standby. A lighted keypad features a large navigator button, redial, direct dial, and channel buttons.

The navigator button's functions are not entirely intuitive. We had to refer to the owner's manual to store a number because there is no memory button. However, the manual was helpful and the steps were easy to remember once we performed them. To store a number in memory, we pressed program, entered the phone number, pressed auto, and assigned it a station number between zero and nine. A beep indicated that the phone number had been stored.

The program and auto functions are the right and left sides of the navigator button, while the top and bottom control the ringer volume. While the functions of the navigator button do not necessarily relate to each other, and could just as easily have been separate buttons, the navigator button's multifunction design does minimize clutter on the handset.

Other functions are easier to use because they do not require the navigator button. If you have one number you dial frequently, you can assign it to the direct button. The direct button takes only three steps to program and one step to dial. Redial and flash are also accessed with the touch of a button. Handset Locator is a large button conveniently located on the base.

Although we had reservations about the phone's button design, we were most impressed with the long range and sound clarity of the KXTG2500. With its dual-antenna system, one for transmitting and one for receiving, our conversations were virtually static-free. When background noise was present, we simply pressed the channel button for a clearer connection. We took the handset outside, approximately 1,000 feet from the base, before detecting any interference. It performed just as well inside and behind walls, up stairs, and near electronic equipment. This is excellent performance for any cordless phone at any price. --Emily Bakko

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overall; some minor annoyances, December 19, 1999
By
I bought the 2550 model (the one with Caller ID, but noanswering system). I like the phone pretty much overall, but there aresome things I would like to mention.

1) The Talk button itself is not illuminated; it's also a little small. However, you can answer a call by pressing any of the dialing buttons (0-9), which are illuminated. Still, I think they should have illuminated it somehow.

2) You WILL notice some clutter next to the big blue button: too many labels, and too many other surrounding buttons in such a small space just lead to initial confusion. Thankfully, I've almost gotten used to it.

3) The ringer volume only has 3 levels: low, high, and off. I think there should have also been "med" and "very high" settings to choose from. The receiver volume has low, med, and high settings. The battery strength has low, med, fully charged, and "recharge" indications.

4) The Caller ID function, as well as the Voice Mail indicator function, seem to work just fine. I like the fact that each function is associated with its own distinct light on the base unit.

That is, if you get a call, then the Caller ID light on the base will flash red. If that caller also leaves you voice mail, then the Voice Mail light on the base will also flash red.

There is also a separate Voice Mail button on the handset where you can store your Voice Mail access number/password...

5) Luckily, the display is backlit and can easily enough be read in the dark. It shows you the number of new calls you've received, as well as an indication if someone left you voice mail.

6) The Caller List can hold 50 names and numbers, plus date and time for each. If the same person calls you twice, then their name and number will only be listed once with an "x2" (as in times 2) notation next to it. After you review an item in the Caller List, a checkmark is placed beside that entry.

7) The Directory (where you store your own names and numbers) can hold 30 entries. You can use lower-case letters and special characters in the name fields, like "Mom & Dad". You can also copy an entry in the Caller List over to the Directory.

8) I haven't used the Call Waiting functions at all; I just don't have that service available to me right now. Nor have I experimented with the phone's range (outside my apartment).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Phone!, June 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KXTG2500 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Lighted Keypad (Silver) (Office Product)
This is a great phone! I've had one of this phone for a couple of months now and I bought another one for my office just now. I've used a lot of cordless phones over the years, and this one has the best range by far. I can't get any kind of interferance when I am walking around in my 3 story house no matter how hard I try. The sound quality is also flawless. The keys are lighted and the battery life is so good. My old uniden needs a charge every other day, but this phone just keeps going and going and going. The only thing that keeps this phone from a 5 star rating is that the functions of the phone is hard to access. You usually needs to enter multiple keys to use one of its many functions. But other than that, this phone is great!

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, November 3, 1999
By A Customer
I bought this phone the other day... the one with caller ID and Answering machine built-in and I think it is one of the better cordless phones I have ever had... It's no BANG and Olufsen, but neither is the price. The answering machine is clear and so is the speakerphone... on both ends... So is reception, as long as there are no buildings in the way... I could walk about 100 meters and still clear... besides, how many times do you talk on the phone outside your house anyways... The only thing I would change is the buttons on the handset... sure they look real cool but they are kinda cluttered, and it is hard to find certain functions without proper training...
