4.0 out of 5 stars Best 4-line phone out there
I bought this for my home office - we have 2 home lines, a fax/dsl and a business line. This phone pretty much does it all - you can answer each line with a different outgoing message, set up mail boxes for different people, and even have different lines ring on different handsets, or not ring at all (i.e. the fax). 4.0 out of 5 stars Best 4-line phone out there, November 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
I bought this for my home office - we have 2 home lines, a fax/dsl and a business line. This phone pretty much does it all - you can answer each line with a different outgoing message, set up mail boxes for different people, and even have different lines ring on different handsets, or not ring at all (i.e. the fax). The range is very good (I can usually get it to go about 400 feet outdoors in a suburban neighborhood). The handsets are pretty much the same size as the Panasonic 2.4mHz standard. Battery life seems fine.

My biggest peeve is that you can't use 2 handsets on the same line at the same time (I guess that is what the extension is for) and that one of the four handsets we got refuses to work properly - something with the battery, but Panasonic has been pretty helpful.

If you read through the posts here you will find that the # 1 key on these handsets fail. You will also learn that many customers have contacted Panasonic by Phone, email, even regular mail to the Corporate office. Panasonic's response is the same, After the warranty, tough luck SUCKERS!. How can a company like this not stand behind a faulty product. I've replaced the handsets once already because of the # 1 key not working anymore and now the replacements, BRAND new handsets purchased just 12 months ago have also stopped dialing the # 1 key.

Panasonic is aware of the problem, but they don't care, in fact they know that you spent enough money on the system to be able to milk you for the cost of the replacement handsets. It's good money for them. Way to Go Panasonic, way to screw average Joe Consumer. UNREAL. I'm never buying anything Panasonic again and I'm so mad right now that I'm going to make it my purpose in life to tell everyone how bad you guys suck with regards to customer satisfaction and standing behind your products. HUGE MISTAKE. HUGE!

3.0 out of 5 stars Successful repair of Panasonic KX-TGA400B keypad problem!!, January 14, 2007

This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
[WARNING: By reading this posting, you agree to take full responsibility for any damage that may occur to your phone handset as a result of the information provided herein.]

I was able to successfully repair the "number one keypad problem" of all three of our Panasonic KX-TG400B handsets by carefully disassembling them (removing the battery first, observing static-safe procedures, etc.) and then cleaning the circuit board area around SW13 (the #1 key) _and_ the back side (including the black pad) of the "1" button on the rubber keypad itself using a paper towel wetted with grain alcohol.

Will it work with other alcohols or cleaners? I have no idea. The grain alky worked for me, so I saw no need to do further experimentation.

Good luck; be careful. If you are not confident in your ability to take the handset apart and do this procedure without causing further damage, my only advice is: Don't try it.

[BTW, my rating of this product would have been 5 stars but for the #1 keypad and intermittent headset jack problems we've encountered--it's a great solution for our telephone needs]

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Trouble with Panasonic Phones!, February 10, 2006

We have 7 handset units in total in my business. The #1 key stopped working after about 2 years on three (3) of them so far, which renderes the phone pretty much useless!
Customer service is awful, they won't do anything, because the phones are beyond their 1 year warranty!

Beware of this product and other Panasonic phones!
I have a similar phone system from Panasonic at home, where not only key 1 stopped working, but almost all number keys; I had to replace it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Built-in obsolescence, April 8, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
This phone system works great at first but soon enough, the #1 key stops working, as mentioned elsewhere in these reviews. Repair is expensive (almost $100) and only works, again, for a while. Other problems include bad sound (the phone starts to sound like you're under water), buzzing, etc... A real rip-off with absolutely zero customer support from Panasonic, who earns the title of Biggest Rip-Off from me. Avoid them at any cost, and if your units start malfunctioning, consider ditching the system altogether for a better one, rather than putting good money after bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars pretty good system with major flaws, November 11, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
I bought the 4-line kxtg4000b base with 6 KXTG400b handsets a couple of years ago. Overall, the system is quite good in features (though you can find better features on some of the newer models that are 2-line only), however, there have been two major problems with the handsets: one problem has been intermitent loss of sound to the other party (the problem gets mysteriously fixed after leaving the handset unused for a few weeks to a couple of months), and the other problem has been with the #1 key becoming unfunctional after a year or a little longer.

The #1 key does not function on four of the six, the fifth one is beginning to show the #1 key problem, and the sixth one is thus far ok after about 15 months.

I called Panasonic a few months ago and they offered to fix the #1 key by applying some sort of gel for $5.00 per handset. Out of laziness, I neglected to take up the offer at that time.

Today, I called Panasonic techinial department and they not only refused and laughed at me for the $5.00 fix, they acted very unprofessionally and rudely and wasted 57 minutes of my time.

The technical people refused to give the Panasonic Corporate Office number to me. Therefore, in search of the Headquaters telephone number, I came across these reviews for the system.

Needless to say, I did not get anywhere with the main office either, other than the same offer of spending $70.00 for a replacement.

I have had extremely good service from every other Panasonic product that I have purchased (some products from their Broadcast line). I have never had a need to have a repair done to any of their products. Therefore, I had no idea about their attitude towards their customers. I am appalled at the fact that Panasonic is acting in such bad faith.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective handsets, March 6, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
We are having the same problem as most of the other reviewers. The #1 button stops working, so dialing becomes impossible. Panasonic's response is to have the customer pay $90 to fix each handset, and since it's a multi line phone system, there are multiple handsets involved. Just inputting the model number in an internet search engine finds similar complaints across the web. If I hadn't found such an overwhelming number of complaints, I would have assumed it was simply my unit and had no problem paying for the repairs. But this defect is widespread, and Panasonic should be responsible for their defective item.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Phone System Stinks!, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
I can't agree more with all the other posters! The #1 on the dialpad failed on 5 of my 6 handsets. Panasonic doesn't give a damn if I am a happy consumer. Therefore, screw them and now I will never buy Panasonic again. The replacement phones are as much $$$ as a whole new system. Very poor customer service. They want me to go to a Panasonic Authorized service center and pay $65 with no guarentee to repair. DO NOT BUY THIS SYSTEM! Have a grat day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine for me., June 5, 2006
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
I bought the base unit and two handsets a year ago in spite of all the bad reviews because I wanted a four-line unit. I've had no trouble at all with the system. I'm up here now to add two more handsets to the system.

I would have given it five stars but I had a LOT of trouble getting adapters to convert two lines into one for the input. These _should_ be included with the phone since you cannot do four lines without them.

Another minor knock is that the ring tones are very loud, even on the lowest setting. I put small pieces of duct tape over the holes where the ring sound comes out to soften the sound.

Jimmie

4.0 out of 5 stars First problem after 4 years, August 28, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) (Office Product)
We've had this system for about 4 years now, using 4 lines with 3 handsets. We really like all the features and tend to use most of them.

No problems until a few weeks ago when one of the handsets failed with the infamous #1 key. So will be replacing it (gosh, they are ridiculously expensive!) and hoping to get another 2 years out of the system, when it will be time for a complete replacement...
