5.0 out of 5 stars Best Machine for the money
I own one of the largest Residential Cleaning Services in my State. I use this machine exclusively for my hard floor areas. I found that the suction is terrific and is equal to machines that cost hundreds more. It is simple to operate. It has no "powerhead", so it is pretty much only a hard surface vacuum. However, I found a hand held turbo attachment that works...

1.0 out of 5 stars Power Button Inop
I was very excited about this product, Since I always had uprights. Unfortunately I received a lemon. I hooked everything up according to the manual and when I was finally ready to vacuum the power button didnt budge. Talk about ticked. I though Panasonic was awesome but now I am second guessing. I am #3 with the power button issue.

However, I found a hand held turbo attachment that works wonderful with it becaause of the great suction this machine has. It makes the turbo scream with power enough to pick up the worst pet hair on furniture and hard to get areas of carpeting between furniture and walls. I have 20 of these machines, which have lasted a long time, considering that we put 20 times more usage on them than a normal household would.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific suction for hard wood floors and pet hair, January 30, 2010

Panasonic MCCL485 Bagless Straight-Suction Canister Vacuum Cleaner

This Vacuum Cleaner is easy to assemble, light weight and bagless. It works great on hard wood floors and linoleum too! I have two pets and it did a great job sucking up pet hair on smooth surfaces. I found it easy to work with on the stairs because it is so light weight. I like all of these features. Using it on indoor-outdoor carpeting is difficult because it is difficult to push and pull the straight suction nozzle because it does not self-propel at all. Now I know exactly what straight suction means! It is wonderful for hardwood floors, stairs, cement basement, and other smooth surfaces. It is quite a work out to clean a large carpeted area though.

5.0 out of 5 stars it works, January 10, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic MCCL485 Bagless Straight-Suction Canister Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I am satisfied with this vacuum. It has a nice design. I like the fact that it's bagless and the filter system seems to be quite effective as the vacuum does not emit an unpleasant smell as I clean. The suction is perfect and the nozzle is very advanced in that it sucks up dust/dirt and sweeps it into the suction area at the same time. All the parts fit together well and don't come off/disconnect in the middle of vacuuming. It works great on parquet and low carpets. The only setback is a short retractable cord (probably standard for a lot of vacuums).

I like it so far I just received it last week so I am not sure about how long it will be good. I have tons of hard surface floors so I needed a canister. I love that it is bagless. My vacuum turns on from the canister. There is one button for the cord to retract and one for the on off switch. Works great so far, picks up all the crumbs and hairs on the floor. I have two dogs. I am crossing my fingers

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, March 22, 2010

It worked ok until the brush stopped spinning about half a year after purchase (as a back story, this brush is not electric powered, and depends on suction. if the canister is full, it won't spin). Called up Panasonic, and they said everything they could in order to avoid me sending the unit directly to them. Instead they suggested to mail the unit to or go to their servicing center which is about an hour and a half away from me. Eventually I got the unit "fixed" which didn't work due to some dirt getting caught in the brush. Two months later the same thing happened. Another call to Panasonic, and they're suggesting the same thing. At this point I asked if I could send the brush directly to Panasonic and have them replace it. The customer representative says no, because it's a "consumable" item which isn't covered by the warranty. The two options I have are to once again have their servicing center look at it, or buy a new brush, which will most likely break down after a month of use. Not worth the money, and time.

This is a great vacuum. I love the way you can remove the spin brush as we have a lot of long hair in our household that gets tangled up. It's a powerful and quiet machine. One draw back...it's a little difficult to empty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be aware after 1.5 year used!, June 5, 2011
This review is from: Panasonic MCCL485 Bagless Straight-Suction Canister Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
This has been working so well until today (1.5 years old). When I re-plugged it to clean another room and pushed the power bottom, the motor sound was slowing down and it stopped. I disassembled it and tried to see which part was wrong. It turned out that the motor itself got smoke and extremely hot. The house fire alarm was beeping because of the smoke. Since I love this Panasonic, I will order new one even though it's broken in 1.5 years. It's always better that it works longer, but I can think like spending $104 in 1.5 years is equal to buy an expensive vacuum of ~$500 and use it for 7.5 years which I believe the average lifetime of vacuum.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good machine with some drawbacks, April 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic MCCL485 Bagless Straight-Suction Canister Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I purchased this vacuum cleaner to use in a 700 sqft apartment with laminate floor and some area rugs. Overall, it works very well. This vacuum cleaner has good suction when the dust bin is empty. As it fills up, it can lose suction especially if it takes in lots of fine particles.

The dust bin is big, but should be emptied before it gets to 1/4 full or suction power starts to drop. The dust bin is not easy to empty especially if you have a smaller garbage can.

The brush roll is powered by suction. It may slow or stop if suction power drops or debris gets stuck in the turbine.

3.0 out of 5 stars not so good as expected on Panasonic, April 6, 2011

I'd reserched for about two monthes, read lots of reviews, and purchase this one.
We have laminated floors only at our condo, this does work but is not excellent. We think the rolling brush is not necessary for the flooring. It seems to be bothering the power of suction. I removed the brush, easy on step, guess it's working a bit better.
Previously we had a Urika, didn't have any brush, did a much better job.
I went for the Japanese brand name, but I will try a Dyson next time.
Thanks.
