Product Description

Panasonic is the first manufacturer to introduce an SDHC-enabled SD card to the market. SDHC, or SD High Capacity, is the newest SD format designed to maximize the huge storge capacity of SD cards. In order to grow beyond 2GB, a new data file system was developed. This file writing system now enables SD card capacity to grow to massive proportions. This Panasonic 4GB SDHC cards is also rated a Class 2 performace card, meaning the card has a guaranteed read/write speed of at least 2MB/s, the minimum speed set by the SD Card Association to gurantee optimum performance from your digital products. Hate that lag time between shots with your digital camera? Class 2 cards from Pansonic reduce time between shots, ensuring that you get more of the photos you are looking for. Panasonic's Class 2 High Speed SD Cards also read/write up to 5MB/s. SD Cards are the industry standard for today's removable flash media-based products like digital still cameras, camcorders with still photo modes, digital music players, mobile phones, personal organizers, DVD recorders, home theater components, and more. NOTE: As with any new recording format, please check that your digital product is SDHC compatible. SDHC requires a new file writing system that is now being introduced with the launch of new digital devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Approved by Nikon for use in my D80, February 17, 2007

This review is from: Panasonic 4GB SDHC Memory Card with SD Speed Class 2 performance (Personal Computers)
There are currently only two 4GB SD cards approved by Nikon for use in my D80 (the other is Sandisk). The place I bought my D80 from (Express Camera in New Jersey) sold me an off-brand SD card which, after I had taken about 200 pictures on it, seized up (failed) in my camera. It cost me $450 to have a computer expert get the pictures off that card. After this fiasco, I consulted Nikon, got a list of their approved cards, and bought this Panasonic card. It has worked flawlessly.

Note that SD cards larger than 2GB such as this one are "SDHC" which have some drawbacks.

First, it is not readable by your normal SD reader (the ones in your printer, on the front of your computer, or the separate ones that plug into a USB port.) It can be downloaded from the camera by plugging the camera into a USB port, but this can be more hassle than popping the card out of your camera and plugging it into your computer. It requires a NEW card reader, which plugs into a USB port in order to read it other than from the camera. The Nikon recommended Sandisk 4GB card is often packaged with a very small SDHC card reader (free in the package). I eventually bought one of those just to get the reader. For this reason, I would recommend the Sandisk over the Panasonic unless you already have the special card reader for SDHC cards.

Second, not all digital cameras and devices are compatible with the SDHC cards. Older cameras are not. Be careful to check your device before buying the new 4GB cards to make sure it will work. The Sandisk card I bought with the free reader was from a guy this happened to and he had to sell it very cheaply (bad for him, good for me) on eBay because it was used.

I recommend this Panasonic Card with the reservations indicated above.

I do not recommend using ExpressCameras because they sold me a card not approved by Nikon at the same time I bought the camera from them. Thus, they knew I would be using the off-brand card in the Nikon camera I bought from them at the same time. Their action cost me $[...] to recover my pictures off the defective card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Card - But Cautious, March 17, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic 4GB SDHC Memory Card with SD Speed Class 2 performance (Personal Computers)
This is a Great class-2 SDHC card. This card was included with my Panasonic SD1 camcorder. I used this card in my Panasonic SD1 camcorder and the video recording and playback is perfect. No Pauses, breaks .. etc

A Word of Caution: Not all digital cameras and camcorders use SDHC cards, be sure to check the compatibility before ordering the card.
